Let's start with Groups A and B.

Brazil wins and Croatia comes second in Group A

Spain and Netherlands finish one and two respectively in Group B.

I have Brazil and Spain to win their matchups against the Netherlands and Croatia respectively, but Ii think Brazil has the tougher game beating the Netherlands. I won't be shocked if Brazil gets beaten (shock! horror! blasphemy! That's my favorite team). They stay on opposite brackets and can only meet in the finals.

Group G winner for me is Germany with Ghana coming in second.

Group H winner is Belgium with Russia a close second, and could go either way. It won't matter though as the quarter-final matchup will be won buy both Germany over Belgium and Ghana over Russia.

Ghana and Germany will be on opposite brackets with Germany being on the same side as Brazil and Spain on the same side as Ghana.

Let's see the other groups now.

Group C - (1) Colombia, (2) Ivory Coast

Group D - (1) Italy, (2) Uruguay

In the quarter-finals Colombia will lose to Uruguay and Italy will beat Uruguay. Colombia will have to play Brazil and Italy will play Spain in the semis.

To complete the bottom half (by layout and not by talent or odds), (1) France and (2) Switzerland take Group E and (1) Argentina and (2) Nigeria take Group F. France beats Nigeria and Argentina beats Switzerland.

This sets up a semi of Germany beating France and Argentina playing Ghana in the other on this side of the bracket. I'm conflicted here as I think that Ghana is one of the most talented teams in the world today. I have to go with Argentina though if Ghana wins I won't be surprised. Ghana is like a faster Brazil when they play as a well-oiled machine.

Now for the finals of each side of the bracket.

Brazil vs Germany and Spain vs Argentina (or Ghana).

I can be blasphemous here and give the Brazil/Germany matchup to the one team I think can win it besides Brazil, but I will go here as a fan and pick Brazil. Spain v Argentina will be a douzy, but I think Spain is the smarter team and should win.

If all goes according to the Kari plan, then Brzil should do a deja vu over Spain as the Confederations Cup last year.

What y'all think?

Good conscience does not permit me to be facilitating FIFA. It is one of the most corrupt entity masquerading as a non profit sport organization on the planet. It does nothing to quell the open thuggery and racism at its matches and the idea that we have 10 billion going to building stadiums that will be useless after a few matches and that their creation resulting in the dislocations and marginalization  of impoverished communities should not sit well with anyone. Time to speak out against the corruption in major sports entities, ie the Olympic committee, The Cycling agencies, and those like FIFA. These are simply centers of nepotistic practices favoring political elites and global plutocrats with no heart and should not continue to operate as acceptable organizations. They all need to be revised with  a people centered objectives with people centered representations

why are you concerned about his home life? If you disagree with him, then make your case instead of getting into his personal life

Why should your gnat-like social attention spam  mean my home life is in disarray? To the contrary, that I have the time to voice my opinion on a prevailing problem would imply I am not impeded by domestic distractions but  have the time to investigate the conditions of my world.

You apparently miss the dissatisfaction of Brazilians themselves who see a quarter of a billion dollars being spent in Manaus to build a stadium just to play four games! There is no after the world cup life for this gargantuan white elephant! The city has no ability to maintain it or events to support it.

The fact that from the favelas of Rio people can see billions being spent to build the gleaming stadiums they know they will never get to enter as they suffer undue neglect in the merest of social services.

You may also be ignorant of the corrupt FIFA officials gerrymandering the vote based on payoff of millions to afford Qutar the 2022 world cup. You may also turn a blind eye to the million or so slaves in Quatar from Indian, and the Philippines who toil at building these stadiums. FIFA turns a blind eye

But let me see; imagining me in some dire predicament is easier for you than reading the Daily Mail, NY times, or any of the hundreds of newspapers and TV broadcasts that have commented on the obscene wealth in FIFA and their complete lack of concern for social justice when it intervenes in the games. Imagine this; these folks sought and succeed to overturn Brazil's prohibitions to alcohol at the games just so they can sell their beer concessions! They will leave with immense earnings wrought of tax concessions etc and poor Brazilians will have to live with the multi billion dollars white elephants left behind.

I like soccer. I played soccer in school. I look at European soccer but this is the time to heighten the consciousness of sports lovers everywhere of the truly despicable neglect of FIFA to be a moral agent for the game.

BINGO!!!

Kari

Suarez (Uruguay) and Ronaldo (Portugal) look like they might be hampered by lingering injuries. Robbin van Persi of Holland is injured and France is not a serious contender. Lionel Messi hasn't been accepted by Argentinians for the most part as Argentinian. Argentina has an awful defense anyhow. Spain is getting old. Italy will be indisciplined. I tell ya, Brazil has a lot of pressure and a lot of young players. Germany seems the team with the most experience , talent, organization and stability. I still like Brazil though.

Crying foul for your Anglo masters who lost the cup to the Arabs...

After most of the first games by all the teams, the following trends emerge:

  • Brazil played shaky but they will settle down
  • Argentina played shaky but I don't see them on an upward curve
  • The enigmatic Dutch continues to astound - brilliant and then WTF
  • The Germans are a machine
  • Italy is lurking
  • Spain is spent currency
  • Uruguay has disappointed

I've always Ghana, not as a dark horse but as a legitimate contender. I call them the Brazil of Africa, but more physical and maybe with some questionable decision-making at times.

Germany is one of the best out there, with mer4curial France and the Netherlands. I think the other Latin nations would do well in Group play but fizzle in the knockout stage.

Of course my picks could come crumbling down.

Kari

Today’s USA match is interesting to test Klinsmann philosophy. He’s dropped a lot of the veteran US players (like Donovan and Bocanegra, though he kept Tim Howard) and went with foreign-born US players playing in European league. He has favored strength and physicality over finesse – maybe the Brazil heart was a factor. The US may yet surprise today against Portugal who have 3 starters out (2 injured and one knucklehead who got a red card in the first game) plus a gimpy-kneed Ronaldo.

Watch Ghana if the US draws or loses today (both likely than a US win), which means Ghana must beat Portugal and make their goal difference better than the US. They then move on to the knockout, and I don’t think any team wants to face Ghana until the Finals. You know what, I think they can beat Brazil or Germany (a second time around).

Ray, Ghana wind 3 -1 or 2 - 0 on Thu against Portugal. The US will lose like 3 - 1. In that scenario Ghana advances.

You assume Portugal just gonna let Ghana win that easy?

SUarez should be suspended...I was rooting for Italy, but they laid back too much
