I unfortunately have to agree with you that Jagan must remain. He was a Guyanese President and he was Indian. It smacks of disrespect to Indian people to erase the man's name and by extension us from symbols of Guyana.

Jagan already has Babu John as his 'symbol of Guyana'...Just like Burnham has the square of Revelotion...

Why should 40% of the population take priority over 100%?  Whether or not the name stays shouldn't just reflect only a segment of the population.

Did the PPP ask any one's permission when they renamed it CJIA?  Did they care whether the African, mixed, Portuguese, Chinese or the Amerindians wanted this?

The next thing you know , some building will be named after Jagdeo, and then Granger. I just wish they would stop the practice of naming public building after them and hanging their photographs in every building, especially government offices. These places belong to the people of Guyana and not the political party in office. It reminds me of those scenes you see coming out of the middle east where as soon as one strong man assumes power, he plasters images of himself all over the place. All this does is to send the message as to who is now in charge, and who has the "power". We have to move away from talk of being "In power", to being "In Office" or something that does not send such signals. I would like to think that this election has sent a signal that we might be ready to turn a significant page in Guyana's maturity. I would rather that no public building or place be named after any political figure. It is a very alienating thing. There are "neutral" names that can be used.

* The Rev wholeheartedly agrees that CJIA should be changed back to Timehri International Airport.

* Hopefully when the Rev arrives there in July he'll see the new name---TIMEHRI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT---that is a neutral name---and a unique name as Riffy says.

* It must be very painful for proud, patriotic Black Guyanese like carib to return to Guyana and Cheddi Jagan is the first name that welcomes them.

The PPP renamed it so why cannot the APNU-AFC rename it? Why did the change not imply a disrespect to native peoples? If any change is to be made let it return to its original post independence name.

A cording to me? Check who started this thread. I am just suggesting if any change is in the making let it return to what it was.

Not every one agrees that Cheddi was so fabulous.  Almost half of the population consistently voted against him, and he did NOTHING to attempt to win them over.

Yes I have heard many negative comments and some feel frankly insulted at the name of the airport.

Then by that same token, Linden will have to revert back to Macknzie. And there cannot be a Roxanne Burnham Gardens.

Known by whom.  The almost 50% who voted against him in 1957, 1961, 1964, and in 1992.  And voted against him again in 1997 not too long after he died?

You have YOUR opinion.  Others differ sharply with you.

Face it Guyana is a 50:50 nation and the narrative on each side is radically different.

I hope Granger never listens to any of you. I think he will try to be a middle of the divide kind of person. Unless I read his demeanour differently, he appears to be a rational thinking person. He must know that to act differently would mean an early fracture in the tenuous coalition that put him in the presidency.

Oh the elections in 57, 61, 64, 92 and 97 were rigged?  You are the only one who claims this.  You do know that the PPP won all but the 64 election.  So you claim that they came to power through rigging?

What in the world are you talking about with this "top three Guyanese" that ever lived! I know on no political son or daughter of the soil yet worthy to be enshrined on any pillar post or pylon much less our national airport at this time.

Cheddi is responsible for much of our woes. His communist bent let our nation be dominated by the Burnhamite dictatorship. His second advent led to the emergence of the crook Jagdeo and the ultimate  decade and a half long pillage of the state by the him and ramotar.

Your saints are not mine.

What a racist  moron you are!

In my wildest dream I did not think about the race or color of our late President Jagan.

His name need to remain there because of his contribution as the late President of Guyana.

If you ask me I thin Berbice Bridge need to name after President Jagdeo.

I don't like the name either...I don't think Mr. CHung made any significant contribution
