Former Alliance For Change (AFC) executive member Gomattie Singh says she has started receiving death threats since appearing on the platform of the ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) at Port Mourant, Corentyne on Sunday.

Singh resigned from the AFC in September 2006 and is now a member of the Civic component. On Tuesday told reporters at Freedom House that her appearance at the weekend rally had been closely guarded.

“My presence on the PPP platform triggered some upset, some unrest in the minds of people in this country that almost instantly my phone, both at home and at office started to get calls of threats accusing me of crossing the floor, threatening me that this time they’re going to kill me.”

Singh, a lawyer, said she has a caller ID machine on her home phone but that most of the calls to that phone showed unknown numbers while she does not have a similar device at her office.

She added said she is in talks with GT&T to have the calls traced and is yet to make a report to the police, something she intends to do on Tuesday.

Singh also queried why she was being subjected to such threats when so many others have crossed the political floor in this election season.

“Why me, is it something that is so thoroughly wrong that I should not be in politics or I should not stand on a political platform to make a contribution to my society or choose who I want to be the leader of this country?”

Singh added that the first attack on her in 2008 took her by surprise but she is prepared to face whatever circumstance may befall her now. A lone attacker, who is yet to be identified, in 2008 exited a taxi and threw a corrosive substance into the woman’s face before re-entering the vehicle and making his escape.

“The threats coming to my phones are nothing that I should be worrying myself about but I just want you the media to know it is happening so that when something serious happens you won’t be taken by surprise as I was on the 28 of May 2008,” she stated.

According to Singh, she joined the PPP/C because of the progress that she has seen in Guyana and she thinks that it is right that it should continue.

Threats of this nature serves no useful purpose....

I condemn the threat against Gaumattie and ask the cowards making them to stop forthwith !

Also I remember Gaumattie mentioning that she might have been attacked by disatisfied clients of hers so lets stop the political finger pointing....
FM
firstly, i am not accusing the AFC, you idiots are quick to jump on people and labeling them as PPP as long as they say something that is not to your liking.

I WANT TO KNOW WHO THREATENED THE WOMAN!

where did it say or implied that the AFC/APNU/PPP had anything to do with it?

One could reasonably assume that the death threats are politically motivated. The police should investigate to determine who the culprits are. Meanwhile, all decent-minded people denounce this kind of victimization.

AFC condemns use of threats in this campaign period.

The Alliance For Change notes with grave concern that its former executive member Mrs. Gomattie Singh has alleged that she been receiving threatening phone calls upon her endorsement of the PPP’s campaign.
The AFC wishes to categorically condemn the use of any threatening conduct against Mrs. Singh, or any other candidate of any political party involved in the important work of winning support for their respective parties. Our own actvists and candidates face daily threats and harrassment from persons purporting to be acting on behalf of the PPP/C.
The AFC wishes to make it clear that Mrs. Gomattie Singh had provided dedicated service to the party and thus the membership and leadership of the AFC bears no ill will towards her. In fact, Ms. Singh, following the dastardly attack suffered severl years ago, received full support from the Presidential Candidate, Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan, and others.
The AFC however respects her democratic right to associate with the political party of her choice. We cannot help but wonder whether Ms. Singh is being unwittingly used as a pawn by her PPP/C comrades to suggest that the AFC would want to physically harm her in some way. Our deep respect and appreciation for her would not allow for such a thing.
The AFC further submits that when one contemplates the small collection of charlatans recently joining the PPP’s platform, Mrs. Singh will definitely stand out as an asset, and we wish her well.

The man clearly raises the bar for the peanut butter crew do you think Robert with his eMBA and fake degree can pull together this?

BTW how did Robert get into UWI with that fake Bachelors? we hear the UWI admissions department is quite embarrassed about an AFC inquiry into this matter.

Blade,

The AFC has no reason to threaten Gaumatie Singh. I have said here that the Gaumatie affair with respect to the Parliamentary seat was unfortunate. That however have nothing to do with these threats. Ms Singh's endorsement of the PPP will have no consequence in terms of votes loss for us. She did not bring in any vote for ROAR and I can tell you she is quite unstable having a major problem with Ravi Dev after the man only suggested she change aspects of her speech. That was her catalyst for leaving ROAR. The AFC has already issued a statement condemning those who might have threatened her (assuming such a threat exist).

Blade who is more likely to manufacture such a claim after the AFC's strong showing in Berbice?

TK I never said that the AFC or any other party attacked her. All I'm saying is that this nonsense must stop. People must not threaten others because they choose to support a particular party. Whoever those ppl are they must be dealt with severely - exposed when found out.

I was not saying that was your intention. My apology if I implied that. I agree with you and the AFC has already issued a release. I also hope that since Ms Singh has a case against the AFC an arrest will be made very soon.

I doubt the AFC learnt anything from the PNC thugs, the PNC has the complete lineup in their stables from bloody hands Joe Hamilton, the Dolphin trainer odinga and their latest and great addition yet stand by, drum roll please Coffin man Bynoe............

If anyone called in a threat on her life it is probably a PPP person looking to make some headlines which is what the PPP is looking for. Come on folks get real and get sense who the F*&ck would want to kill her because she jumped ship ? she is not a political asset so the PPP needs to create the perception she is. I now see why the AFC quite rightly did not give her a top position , she may turn out to be a nutcase .
