in the past and will not repeat those mistakes if we are ever back as the government of this nation. This our promise.”

A very innocuous statement that can go a very long way to healing the nation and narrow the racial divide.

The PPP and the PNC do not believe in this kinda approach. They are Stalinist parties where the party is always to be presented as pure and inerrant. All wise all knowing. And an admission of fallibility will just not do.

Nobody is going to be so stupid as to admit that they were bad in a previous life during the height of an election season. That's political suicide in Guyana.

After elections, that will fly.

I am not sure it is politicial suicide in Gy since current voting pattern is mostly along racial lines so what is there to lose by one party or the other, I think there is more to gain

Both parties have their race base that will vote for them. It's the crossover votes and the independents who will decide the elections and those are the ones who will reject any party who admits to being bad in a previous life. That's just my opinion on Guyanese people in general. It seems like the parties support my view since they are yet to offer any apology for misdeeds they have committed in the past.

If we were all serious and were led by adults, we'd have a joint statement where the wrongs to everyone would be acknowleged, repented of, and mutually forgiven as turn a new chapter in our national story resolved to get it right this time.

But I'm not holding my breath. The population is too illiterate and the tribal leaders cannot trade the present lazy man's way to political campaigning by way of race for something requiring a little more savvy in organizing voters like issues.

Assuming there is more to gain, it's a matter of timing.

If Granger climbs on top Jagdeo's mansion tomorrow with a bullhorn and admits PNC "mistakes", the PPP will roast his nuts every day for the next 40 days and 40 nights.

If Granger tells the last APNU+AFC rally at the Square of the Revolution two days before May 11 that the PNC had made mistakes but he would not repeat them as President, there might be something to gain.
