The Community Policing Division Three, which has responsibility for the islands of Wakenaam and Leguan in the Essequibo River, now has a patrol boat thanks to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Minister of Home Affairs,  Robeson Benn this morning handed over the 16ft x 5ft x 2ft aluminum boat with 40 horse power to Chairman of Division Three, Mustapha Zaman, a release from the ministry said.

β€œOther than gunmen going around some of the incidents appear to be people getting emotional and mud balling…We have  to have empathy and understanding so we don’t get things degenerated any further,” he added.

In accepting the donation,  the release said that Zaman expressed gratitude since for years the absence of a boat had hindered their crime fighting ability.

Is this for real ? Fighting crime with a 16 ft [2ft deep]aluminum boat in the Essequibo river.

I remember going to the Leguan Court with my father which if I remember well is to the left of the stelling as you get off, in the early 80's. At that time the police were building a patrol launch under the courthouse out of wood with a wheelhouse and cabin which would put this open Aluminum one to shame.
