Even as one examines the repeated efforts of some to deny the existence of any progress made by Guyana under the stewardship of successive PPP/C governments since 1992 one cannot help but notice the hypocrisy in the calls by these very same individuals for a salary increase higher than the proposed 5% offered by the government. It was proper stewardship of Guyana’s economy which allowed for there to be any sort of increase in the first place and these attempts to deceive the public has to stop.

Further, despite pretending to have the interest of workers at heart the actions of the combined APNU/AFC opposition have been to the contrary. Since being given a one seat parliamentary majority in 2011 the two have embarked on a series of actions which threatened jobs, derailed projects geared towards job creation and have even described the loss of employment as a result of their callous actions as ‘collateral damage’.

So now despite repeated denials of the existence of progress we have moved from a position of not being able to meet our financial obligations prior to 1992 to one where we can offer yearly increases. The very people who plunged Guyana into economic turmoil have now shifted the goal post to whether or not these increases are adequate.
