There should be no violence against people at any meeting whatsoever because of their choice.
If APNU is carrying on with hooligasm,those responsible should be jailed.

What I find difficult here, is the fact that at these meetings we have always been bombarded with pictures showing the crowds at PPP meetings but of all times, no one had a camera to show this violence that occured. Don't tell me that a crowd throwing bottles,bricks using baseball bats were never pictured, why?

Too bad we couldn't hear questions asked from the audience.

This is the reason the questions true or not would be raised.

By the way, when someone is pelted with bricks and sticks and baseball bats used against them, they would not be sitting in front of cameras a couple days later speaking about their ordeal. Something smells fishy.

The so called "explosion" was a gunshot by a PPP/C member.

Contrary to the Demwaves inaccurate report about a "police source" suggesting that there was no disruption of the PPP/C meeting at Victoria, here is the media release by the Guyana Police Force which confirms the ordeal last evening.
Guess the attempted cover up of the episode failed.

PRESS RELEASE

The police are investigating reports that five supporters of the PPP/C political party were assaulted and kerosene thrown on one of them at a public meeting held by the PPP/C yesterday Wednesday November 16, 2011, in an Access Road at Victoria Village, ECD.

Investigations revealed that the meeting commenced at 1800h. and the speakers were Anil Nandalall and Joseph Hamilton.

While Anil Nandalall was addressing the gathering, a crowd of about 300 persons bearing placards with photographs of APNU Presidential Candidate David Granger and shouting “Granger, Granger, we want Granger” approached and also began to heckle the speaker.

During this period it is alleged that a bottle was thrown in the direction of Anil Nandalall which missed him. However the police ranks on duty called for assistance and a police patrol from the East Coast of Demerara responded and assisted in placing the APNU crowd a safe distance away from the PPP/C meeting.

The two speakers then completed their addresses and were escorted to their vehicles by the police and they departed, while ranks remained with those persons dismantling the equipment used.

At this time both the persons who had attended the meeting and persons who appeared to be APNU supporters were making their way towards the Public Road, during which it is alleged that five supporters of the PPP/C were surrounded and missiles thrown at them.

It is further reported that an attempt was made to assault Ovid Wilson with a baseball bat which was taken away from his alleged assailant by Clifton Harris.

It is alleged that subsequently kerosene was thrown on Clifton Harris at which stage Ovid Wilson, who is a licenced firearm holder and who became fearful, discharged two rounds from his firearm into the air.

At this stage police ranks arrived on the scene and escorted the five persons to Cove and John Police Station where statements were taken. They were offered to be taken to seek medical attention but refused.

Additional patrols were requested and assistance came from Georgetown.

Efforts were made to contact those persons identified by the virtual complainants but they were unsuccessful.

Investigations are in progress. No arrest has been made as yet.

The Guyana Police Force wishes to call on all political parties to advise their supporters to exercise restraint at this time. Any political party should be free to hold a political meeting anywhere in Guyana without being confronted and assaulted or having their meeting disturbed by supporters of another party.

The Guyana Police Force wishes to remind parties concerned that they have signed a Code of Conduct and they should conform to the prescribed behaviour.

The Force will leave no stone unturned to ensure that it investigates allegations of breaches of the law at political meetings by supporters of any political party. In fact, members of the Force working at these meetings and responding to any reports of disorderly conduct at the political meeting have been advised to take firm action against those concerned in order to avoid situations getting out of hand.

1. The profile of the speakers influences media coverage. Eg. If Bharrat or Donald was at this meeting then there would've been media coverage. Nandlall and Hamilton spoke.

2. The physical attacks took place when the meeting ended and the PPP supporters, some of whom live in the area or nearby, where going home. Thus, even if there was media coverage at the meeting it wouldn't have been captured.

The attacker did not get to use the baseball bat. It was after an attempt was made to use it that the shots were fired to ward off the attackers

I not discounting this man's story but for an incident which is supposed to be fresh in his mind , he appear to pause to much. like he trying to remember what happen.

Upon arrival @ the Police Station, this item should have immediately been taken as evidence of the attempt on this man's life.

The police seems to have no knowledge of this . . . how can you miss the smell of this extremely volatile substance? What happened to the shirt?

Robber(t) Persaud (MBA) seems unconcerned, and the 'victim' now claims that it was an 8 year old child who "doused" him.

More to the point re credibility, the witnesses seem careful and 'over prepared' in their recollections of the gunshots, er "explosion(s)" that we know were sourced to their PPP comrade.

The PNC is desperate. They know that they would lose. Someone should tell Granger that terrorism would not make the indians vote for them. The Indians have to restrain themselves. They can't allow another racial strife..
