The U.S. Department of State is supporting an 18-month project to strengthen the capacity of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) and the Attorney General’s Chambers.

The project is centres on electoral processes and to encourage civil society organisations to advocate for electoral reform in accordance with regional and international standards, the US embassy here said in a press release. The project will be implemented by the International Republican Institute.

Through this project, GECOM, the Attorney General’s Chambers, and civil society organisations will collaboratively consolidate and improve local electoral and constitutional law knowledge, establish an internal timeline to address electoral reform, improve collaboration for joint advocacy actions, and prioritizlse electoral and constitutional law issues while promoting reform through citizen engagement.

The project is part of ongoing USG support to strengthen the capacity of Guyana’s governance for the benefit of all Guyanese, the release added.

CGID CALLS ON GUYANESE TO REJECT TRUMP'S REPUBLICAN INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE'S ("IRI") FURTHER INVOLVEMENT IN GECOM ON BEHALF OF THE PPP
The Republic party, in response to President Joe Biden's victory, have decided that the only way they can win a future election is to block non-republican voters from voting. Hence, they have been aggressively pursuing pernicious, racist and anti democratic strategies and laws, to block black and brown people, and democrats generally, from voting in urban cities of states they control. They are enacting Jim Crow laws on steroids.
What is most interesting is that The International Republican Institute (IRI), whose Board is made up of racist, right-wing extremist, republicans, and which played a role in working with GECOM and the US State Department under Donald Trump and Mike Pompeo, to ensure regime change and the installation of the PPP in government, is now working with GECOM to enact so called electoral reforms in Guyana.
Guyana already has an undemocratic, racist, anti black PPP regime. Now these PPP racist, are about to collaborate again with GECOM Chairman, Claudette Singh, a liar and untrustworthy crook, and other racist, anti-black, extremist Trump republicans, who have been implementing Donald Trump's racist plans to block democrats; including black and brown people, from voting.
The people of Guyana should reject the IRI and run these racist, Trump republicans out of Guyana. They should not be allowed to go anywhere near Guyana’s elections process. They are biased advocates for the PPP and represent Trump's racist republican party.
I call on the APNU/AFC Coalition Parliamentary opposition to direct its members of GECOM to reject the IRI's further involvement in Guyana’s elections process to the benefit of the PPP. The exact reason that the Coalition is out of power is its lack of vigilance on these matters. This must change!

ATTORNEY GENERAL MEETING WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE INTERNATIONAL REPUBLICAN INSTITUTE (IRI)
Last Tuesday, 4th May, 2021, the Honourable Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Mohabir Anil Nandlall SC MP, met with Resident Programme Director of the International Republican Institute (IRI), Dorota Ryzy and Local Programme Coordinator, Sara Bharrat at his Chambers.
The main issue discussed was electoral and constitutional reform which the Attorney General spearheads for the Government of Guyana. The IRI expressed its commitment to work with the Government of Guyana and the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), in making these reforms a reality.
Ms. Ryzy reiterated that this support is coming from the Government of the United States of America, represented by the US Embassy in Georgetown and IRI will be coordinating and implementing the programme. Assistance will come mainly in the form of expertise who will be attached to the Constitutional Reform process at the level of the Parliament, at the level of the Attorney General Chambers to aid in the electoral reforms as well as at the Guyana Elections Commission.
The IRI promises to liaise with the Canadian High Commission as well as the Indian High Commission, both of whom have already pledged assistance to Guyana in this endeavor and will coordinate with those offices to avoid duplication and to ensure the best use of the resources are available.
The Attorney General expressed deep gratitude for the assistance offered and stressed the importance of strengthening Guyana’s constitutional framework, electoral laws and indeed the entire electoral machinery, in order to protect democracy in Guyana, from being undermined and penetrated by fraud, in particular of the type and magnitude which we witnessed post 2nd March, 2020, regional and general elections.
“I feel compelled to emphasize that these matters are among the government’s highest priority. As they are vital to good governance, public order and national development. Therefore, time is of the essence. These reforms are intricately tied to Guyana’s electoral cycle and as a result, the assistance offered must manifest itself swiftly” the Attorney General stressed.
The Attorney General and the IRI representatives agreed to meet at periodic intervals.

Guyana needs to delete the names of people leaving the country from the electoral list. They should also make it clear that if you are citizens of another country you cannot vote n the Guyana elections.

If that does not chnage the Indians will always outnumbered blacks. The PPP will rule forever. That suits me fine.

These changes can only be done by amending the Burned ham Constitution which the PPP adores and embraces.

Change the rules? Make up your mind! Do you want the Indo-PPP on top or not!

Rickford Burke is right.  The PPP is in bed with Trump's racist, conspiracy theory driven party.  Just read what was posted about the outfit Nandlall met with.  What could Trump's Republican Party teach anyone about electoral reform? Voter suppression? Nandlall is sick in the head for dealing with the IRI.

On one of Glenn Lall talk show ,a caller said Jagan and Janet trained Jagdeo to rule the country ,clearly the caller doesn't understand one party rule in multi-ethnic societies.

The Constitution clearly states two term presidency as amended by agreement . It also states the President can appoint Vice-Presidents to assist the President and Vice-Presidents shall be a Minister.

What Ministerial position Jagdeo holds ?

Most people in the country thinks after the President is the Vice- President ,one can clearly observe who plants himself and running the Country.

101.(1) The President shall appoint an elected member of the National Assembly to be Prime Minister of Guyana: Provided that a person who is not eligible to be elected as President shall not be eligible for appointment as Prime Minister.

(2) The Prime Minister shall be the principal assistant of the President in the discharge of his or her executive functions and leader of Government business in the National Assembly.

102. (1) The President may appoint Vice-Presidents for the purpose assisting him or her in the discharge of his or her functions.
(2) If he or she is not otherwise the holder of an office of Vice-President, the person holding the office of Prime Minister shall, by virtue of holding that office, be a Vice-President, and he or she shall have precedence over any other Vice-President.Ministers.
103. (1) The Prime Minister and every other Vice- President shall be a Minister of the Government of Guyana.
