Time will provide Mr. Seeram with answers

October 25, 2011 | By KNews | Filed Under Letters

DEAR EDITOR,
Please permit me to respond to a letter written by Ralph Seeram (from the Diaspora) in Kaieteur News, on Sunday Oct 23 under the heading….. “Can elections be won or lost by radio and television exposure”.
I will leave most of his letter to have time provide him with answers, but I wish to address the issue raised about the AFC winning fewer votes than the last election.
It is true that on the last occasion the votes won were at the expense of the PNC and not the PPP, but Mr. Seeram is not around to witness the happenings on the campaign trails or his assessment would be very different.
At the PPP/C rally at Lusignan on Sunday it was Anil Nandlall who said –‘at every rally I see the same people’…then went on to say —-‘the same mixture of people’—damage control.
It is no secret that the PPP/C bus people in to their meetings and rallies so anyone would see the same set of persons—all the time.
The turnout at the public meetings would tell Mr. Seeram volumes and he would be most certain that this time around the votes will be coming from the PPP camp.
The PPP knows this and that is why they are using every occasion to ply their trade—to ask for support at the polls on November 28.
Here is another example that the entire East Canje will confirm. At the motorcade at Rose Hall Community Centre ground last Sunday, Dr Ashni Singh was on stage, and to open his speech he said—”I bring you greetings from the President and the incoming president”—and he went on to tell the people about the progress of the PPP/C and that they, the people, must give them another chance so come November 28, they must vote PPP/C—-
They cannot get a crowd at their meetings without bussing people over and so they use even the religious gatherings to sell themselves.
It’s a shame that an organization such as the Dharmic Sabha would allow the PPP to use their religious platforms for political purposes.
I think that the Dharmic Sabha has done and is doing well to promote Hindu culture and should not do what the Maha Sabha did in the days of the PNC.
In conclusion, given that we have five weeks more, the PPP/C will lose a lot more votes to the AFC.
That is why they are using bully tactics to try and stop meetings that the AFC hold.
Please, Mr. Seeram, try your analysis about two weeks before elections.
