Three bodies found on East Coast Dem. within 2 hrs

Police on the East Coast of Demerara were busy yesterday picking up bodies in various villages within a two-hour span. Bodies of three elderly men were picked up at Better Hope, Lusignan and Buxton, and although none of them appeared to have been victims of violence, their deaths are engaging the attention of detectives in the district. The first body was found at Lusignan around 15:00 hours, and is that of 56-year old Julian Mohabir, who is said to be an alcoholic. Kaieteur News understands that his brother, who has been taken into custody to assist with investigations, told police that Mohabir had collapsed in front of his yard around 09:00 hours yesterday. However the brother left him there thinking that Mohabir was in one of his drunken fits. The man said that he went out and came back a few minutes later and saw Mohabir still lying where he had left him and again he paid him no mind. The brother claimed that he eventually left for work, only to return around 15:00 hours and find Mohabir lying motionless where he had left him. An alarm was raised after Mohabir did not respond to his brother’s touches. The police were contacted and Mohabir was subsequently pronounced dead. The police were then called to Better Hope where the body of a so far unidentified man was discovered on the seawall. The body was clad in a red jersey and a pair of blue three-quarter pants. Police suspect that the man committed suicide although they found no evidence to confirm this. “There were no marks of violence and he was fresh, fresh when we got there,” a police source told this newspaper. And even as they were investigating that discovery, the police had to race to Buxton where they received a report that another body was found. When they arrived, they found another man whose name was given only as “President” lying dead on the Buxton tarmac. Kaieteur News was told that “President” was a “sickly” man who moved around by dragging along the ground. It is alleged one of his feet was run over by a car earlier yesterday and he was placed on the parapet. But just after 16:00 hours residents observed that the man, who is said to be in his eighties, was not moving. They checked him and found that he was not breathing and he appeared to be dead. The police were called and the body was subsequently picked up by undertakers from a city funeral parlour. Investigators are awaiting the results of post mortem examinations that will be performed on the bodies to determine which way their investigations will go.
