[www.inewsguyana.com] – Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo has blanked a proposal from Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo on a National Unity Committee stating that he [Nagamootoo] does not have the authority to make such a proposal.

Nagamootoo recently announced that he has been appointed to head a committee that will engage the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) on the idea of national unity.

However, Jagdeo at a press conference on September 08 declared that Nagamootoo’s utterances were not succinct enough to convince him that efforts were abound for national unity.

In fact, the Former President opined that the statements were just plain politicking from Nagamootoo, who did not have a welcoming reception at Whim where the announcement was made.

“I think he is prone to make those utterances without any real substance to them and I don’t think in this government he is authorized…because he can’t even secure the commitments that were made to him through the Cummingsburg Accord,” said Jagdeo.

The Opposition Leader also stated that he would prefer to receive such messages via President David Granger since he would treat him with more credibility.

“I have not seen that offer coming from the President and the President is the Head of State and he is the head of government and he has a substantial portfolio…I don’t think Nagamootoo can make that offer,” he said.

Both Jagdeo and Nagamootoo have a bitter past with much of it displayed on the campaign trail leading up to the May 11 General and Regional Elections with disparaging remarks from both sides.

Nagamootoo best man to lead national unity talks with PPP- Trotman

The Guyana government on Wednesday confirmed that Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo is leading a team into National Unity talks with the opposition People's Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) and that he is the best man for the job.
Minister of Governance , Raphael Trotman said government believed that Nagamootoo was the best lead negotiator despite his acrimonious relationship with the PPPC. "I think we favour... to have Mr. Nagamootoo, who is seen off course as a contentious person in the eyes of the Opposition out there and upfront because I think we have to sincere, genuine long-lasting healing and reconciliation we have to confront the devils that beset us and lessen the way we demonize each other and deal with each other respectfully whether we like each other or not," he said.
The other team members are Trotman, Vice Presidents Carl Greenidge, Khemraj Ramjattan and also Attorney General Basil Williams and Minister of State Joseph Harmon.
Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo has poured cold water on Nagamootoo's announcement that he made at Whim Village, Corentyne.
Jagdeo said he believed that the Prime Minister was politicking and that he would only believe if he heard from Presiden David Granger.

Yuji, what proposal does the PPP have to take the country forward from disunity.

You will agree, this is important to bring the people together for real progress to take place, or the hatred and disunity might stay in Guyana for the next 50 years, or more.

One might think there is a war going on in Guyana.

President Granger should lead the team on the national unity discussions. Jagdeo is correct in his comments.

For the President, the national unity discussion should have precedence over anything on Foreign agendas.

The country must have an opposition. Why is it important for the PPP to be part of national unity-they doan stop the government's agenda.

I can understand the PPP and government should be as one for the 50th Independence celebrations.

If Granger did say this ..the cryaboabies would be yelling that Moses the *&*&*&^&^&%^@#%*& .....only getting used and he got nothing of importance fo do. Now the man send in the Prime Minister in his place, that sad fkin excuse of a man who sent Guyana on a really bad curve now talking sheer shyte.

That dipshit should not be seen and not be heard from until he's summoned to court.

cain

Furthermore, the Government should carry on with or without the PPP, it's obvious those bastards don't care for the welfare of Guyana, just today I read on this BB that perhaps it's better for people in Essequibo to have MadUraaaahhhh from Venezuela, grab the land. Traitorssss!!!!

I agree with Jagdeo.

It makes no sense that a party of corruption, incompetence and racism should be included, when it is likely that some of their leadership will be in court being made to answer for their misdeeds of the past 23 years.

Any way democracies need strong opposition parties, so a Party of National Unity makes no sense.

Why am I a racist?  Bet you cannot intelligently say?

Lots of racism flung around GNI, and you only condemned it during the election campaign, as it suited your political purposes.

Please examine the crowds who stand behind Rowley and Kamla.  Please look at where the PNM won, and where the UNC won.  Please look at the fact that the UNC lost all the swing districts, and COP ha sbeen all but wiped out, and then get back to me with your nonsense that race isnt also a factor in Trinidad.

When the Indos in T'dad start howing about ethnic cleansing, as Rowley gets rid of all of those Indians who Kamla put in, (and she was quite brazen about this, not taking a page out of the Panday book) I look forward to you calling them racists........oooh according to Chief the only racist is a black complaining about Indian racism, even after they have already stated that African racism is also a factor.

Carib, it never ceases to amaze me how devious and petty your mind is. You see (to be fair, others too) racism everywhere. You are so obsessed with this racial prism that you are drawing judgments from a couple of pictures from the media?

You need to do a statistical as well as a quantitative analysis of the voting patterns based on the electoral results to draw sound judgments. The same applies to the situation in Guyana.

Now I am no expert on Trinidadian politics but I do agree that race is also a factor in Trinidad. Eric Williams, the first Prime Minister was fond of telling his supporters to not let a "roti government" get into office.

However, the big difference with us and Trinidad is that the race problem is not as intense there as it is in Guyana. One reason is because there have been more party turnovers in government and another reason has to do with the fact that Trinis have not experienced the kind of racial animosities between the races we have in the 1960s. Notice how gracefully and quickly Kamla conceded (we cant say the same for the PPP, which is challenging the results....a futile attempt). In addition, Trinidadians have a strong middle class, an educated one, which allows them to see beyond race. The oil boom and the vibrant economy has ensured that many folks have benefitted from the economic pie...thus they have less time to get into this BS with race. I am not saying that race is not an issue...it is.

Now to the point you are making about what will happen to the Indos when this new government takes over. Yes some Indos will lose their jobs. It comes with the territory. Its called patronage. We can live with it. But I will bet you this new government will not be as blatant as the coalition is in Guyana. They are not that stupid.

Your problem Carib, is you have a knee jerk reaction to others on this board and you are too deep into this Afro-Indo nonsense. Everything does not have to be about race. Trinidad's racial problem is not as intense as ours...but somehow I get the feeling that you wish it were...and you would love to see all dem Indos get the wood. Correct me if I am wrong.

This is about national unity, the ultimate in offer for political cooperation. The PPP was and remained in adversarial roles. They see the PNC as their enemy since those bastards do not see beyond the party politics to a responsibility to the People.

Were you possessed of a hint of integrity you will note the PNC had specific problems with the PPP, the specialty hospital, the Amalia falls initiative, the Marriott and the CSOs in the amerindian community. But note, the PPP then insisted that the budget was their prerogatives, the initiation of projects their prerogatives, the hiring of agency heads their prerogatives, the implanting of IMCs their prerogative. They have not change so Granger needs to step out of his Jesus shoes and put on his steel toed construction shoes and go to work without considering these fools

Discussions are to be directly between the Jagdeo and Granger.

Nagamootoo is simply a minority party leader that forms the government with the PNC.

Granger does not micro manage like Jagdeo . A good leader knows how/when to delegate.

If Jagdeo have a problem dealing with Nagamotoo, let him attend management school.

The specific issues relate to dialogues between political parties.

Hence, it is a matter strictly between the PPP-Jagdeo and PNC-Granger.

This issue is unrelated to strict government affairs which may involve other government official(s}.

Go and dwell with the likes of George DaSilva, Cobra, Seignet, Rama, and Yuji, as you clearly endorse their views as you never comment on it.

And aren't you one of those screaming about ethnic cleansing in Guyana.  Hmmm........this coming from a man who accuses others of seeing race every where.  HYPOCRITE!
