The Paris attacks by the evil Daesh has Obama and the White House slowly pivoting from mere containment of Daesh in territories in Syria and Iraq to ramping up its destruction, so that safe havens must not be used to plan and coordinate attacks like last Friday's.

Obama is still determined to not have US military involvement in a ground war, and even Republicans are reluctant to disagree with him. The plan is to continue to have Arabs eradicate Daesh, but this is going to be intensified. Thew taking of Sinjar and breaking the supply lines last Friday by the Kurds and Yazidis is promising. The US special ops forces helped coordinate that air strikes and ground intel. Mosul and Falluja must be retaken, and here is where you hope the efforts of the Iraqi government to give more authority to Sunni leaders will result in a 2nd Sunni awakening. Only ther Sunnis can defeat Daesh and the Baathists who joined them initially are being wooed back - a reversal of Bush's policy od de-Baathification.

France should step up and put ground troops too - even if it is commando-style special ops only. Jordan tapered off its fight after the initial reaction to the burning of one of its captured pilots. The Saudis need to be reigned in big time though. They got to stop funding and arming Daesh. Obama needs to pressure them some, even by stopping coordinating those criminal strikes in Yemen. Oil is no longer a factor. The Saudis can stop helping lower prices for all they want, the US private sector will step up from their recent cutbacks due to price drop.

And your guy Bush did not have bubu in his eyes, he had fire in his eyes and now we have to deal with his Daesh creation with his de-Baathification and love of the Iraqi Shiites (like curveball and Maliki)......

US "ground troops" waging war in the Syrian/Iraqi desert and the air force bombing Mosul back to the stone age will not stop Paris-like attacks

Yea, yea, he got his act together after Putin offered a hand out to the Iraqis as a follow-on to his Syrian intervention.  Had that not occurred, that bloodshed and refugee crisis was someone else's problem for all he cared.  Obama will exit with the least accomplished 8 year term president.  Even Jimmy Carter did more in his four-years term.

Sunnis need their own state. Iraq should be formalized into confederacies. It cannot work ever in a unitary system.

He is an Ivy league  scholar. You are not even in the bush league yet you have the need to be pretentious and use disparaging phrases with reference to the man. He is doing exactly what the US population expected of him.

Did not many of you complain the US was getting its hands into too many pies? See what happens when you get your wish? Indeed only the US can create safe zones for Syrians and in that he must act and quickly.
