The Tiger Bay Project: “It’s not a hand-out culture”

By Jomo Paul, June 17, 2015 6:37 am, Source

I did missions work in Tiger Bay in the early to mid-80s.

WE did church work and my wife and I started extra lessons for the children at the West End Centre that is still there.

I walked in Tiger Bay day and night and was never harmed over 6 years of work there.

Tiger Bay is now a commercial area and it's probably best to relocate those residents under some priority plan and concessionary plan for "vulnerable populations."  PPP had started something there and some people were relocated to the Tuschen Scheme.  The Coalition's house and land plan would work well for the Tiger Bay people.

You cannot be successful in Tiger Bay unless you can help people with 1. Jobs and 2. Housing, and that was the problem of our Church.

People there were willing to come out of prostitution but we did not have the resources to help them with 1. Jobs and 2. Alternative Housing.
