The security of the nation was at risk. No government(except your PNC) would allow any chaos to overthrow a democratically elected government. Maybe your government(PNC) would have done it by kicking down doors,  burning, looting, raping, maiming and killing. Your PNC boys called  Fineman and his murderous gang "Freedom Fighters" and I am sure they also label the burners, looters and the murders, etc. freedom fighters. That is to overthrow non-black government in Guyana.

Banna...this is all well and good and maybe factual, I dont know all of it....BUT, a sitting government does not fork out its legitimate responsibility of protecting its citizens to a DRUG LORD....that stain will remain as a label of the PPP for a long time....

they question is this: Why did the PPP, a sitting government, with lots of experience, allow the situation to deteriorate to such an extent that they lost control??

If you say that they had no control of the Police and Army....then whose fault is that? They dug their own holes and buried themselves in them.

So who is the instigator off Violence and war in Guyana. Look at the world and see what blacks are doing. Most of them, their life’s are full of violence and retaliation. They would fight each other for chicken in a restaurant... go to YouTube and looks at all the videos.

PPP Politicians should be credited for being the brick wall for Indians when most of you on this site runs away and shoot the shit behind a computer screen, did any of you stayed back to make a difference for Indians.

Undeniable facts brother. The PPP and its supporters don't resort to burning the place down if they don't get their way. In fact, Coalition supporting posters here in 2015 were mocking Ramotar and the PPP supporters for their placard picketing. They were so accustomed to the violent way the PNC and its supporters voice their objection that they laughed at the meek protests of the PPP.

Another thing. The PPP had no trouble turning over the keys to government even though that thought the vote counts were not final. The PNC does not have this coveted record. No doubt they thought it necessary to chain the gates of government properties in 2015 even though it was not necessary.

Well....what is preventing the PPP from reacting in a way that will show that they are not intimidated?   OR, is this the nature of the PPP. This explanation you provide here implies that the PPP will kowtow to injustice and will continue to appease....that means they will never be respected or taken seriously.....is that a fair assessment of what you are saying?

What’s preventing the PPP from reacting  ... Gud question.

September 21st 2001, Friday afternoon, violence erupted in GT. Plaisance Black residence were invading Betterhope . The Indians said enough is enough, they armed themselves and drove the bastard back

Bottles and Bricks were tossing at each other. Freedom House executive rush down to Better Hope and calm the residence, Indians has a family and more to loose .. it’s also a fact that the Army and Police will shoot and Killed Indians by the hundreds.

Indians don’t have a Violent culture, we think of our kids and grand kids, who will looks after them.

Indians will spend their $ to have things done differently... RK is a example.

No matter what the injustice, one should never descend into the inclinations of animals where one animal is ripped apart by another. The highest cathedral of civilization is the court and the PPP has wisely chosen that as their avenue of objection. I am fine with that. The previous PNC didn't last forever. In the end, the PPP were given a chance to demonstrate to Guyanese what democracy looks like. By trickery and with the help of some crabdog Coolies, the PNC forged themselves back in and in just about three plus years, they again demonstrated that they have not yet climbed down from the trees.

Where did the PPP government fork out its legitimate responsibilities to a drug lord? As time went by, it is all proving to be fake news. Khan was sent to prison for drug related crimes. If Jagdeo was in collusion with Khan, he would have been arrested on any of his many visits to the US over the past decade. Even today, the Coalition has not brought any charges against Jagdeo for any of the nonsense they brayed about before 2015.

Banna...you misunderstand me....

This whole statement of your have consigned Indos to a stereotypical behavior and a justification for their inability/or lack thereof when it comes to protecting themselves.

Lets break this down....it is not an animalistic instinct to cover in hiding...its is an animalistic instinct for someone to defend themselves in the face of danger...it is about sel-preservation and self-defense when you believe you are under attack and your life may be in danger....If you were in a position like this, you would react differently.

If Gandhi had lived under Hitler, he would have learned, after many attacks on all his cheeks, and after many years of passive resistance, to adopt a different method of struggle against perceived enemies. The stereotype of the docile INdo is what it is....a MYTH....

Runing to the courts only works when your competitor believes in the same system and shares the same constitutional values. The PPP’s actions are predictable...Burnham read Jagan like a blank page...they know that this myth of the docile Indo will lead them to adopt compromising behavior...which will work towards the interest of the PNC...

You prove my point because you are “fine with that”. Why are you fine with that if the act was a perceived injustice?

YES, the previous PNC did not last forever....BUT look at the damage they have done to the country and an entire generation of people (like my own family).

If Jagan had developed a mental framework like a Walter Rodney, you people would not have been thinking this way, and acquiescing to the winds of injustice...

Have you been reading the posts here?

Most people seem to justify the use of RK to go after criminals (under the PPP tenure) because the PPP was unable to stem the violence.

The PPP leaders have not yet provided a credible explanation (or information) regarding the circumstances surrounding the events since the prison break.

They had opportunities to reform the police and army and they refused to do so. They had opportunities to bring in the DEA and they refused to do so. Why?

I come back to what I said: No government should lend its law enforcement responsibility to a drug lord....

Vish, this happens even in America. Did you ever hear of police giving seized drugs to convicted criminals to snitch on other drug dealers? PPP never had any control of the police or the army and the heads of those government controlled groups would never allow any coolie to get in. They will be murdered by PNC insiders before they get going. The police force and army have a culture of promoting only their own people(negroes). This was cultivated since the days of Burnham.

Dave provided some examples of Indo resistance to perceived threats in Blairmont.

This is the problem: Why could the PPP not have control of the police and army and why did they let this problem escalate even after the PPP understood fully the army and police were indoctrinated to support their kith and kin and participated in rigged election.

Come 1992: The PPP had 23 years to correct this problem... and no one would have faulted them for doing so as long as they proceeded to address the injustices of the PNC and the excesses of the law enforcement operatives.

You cant blame the PNC for this...this is a fundamental mistake of the PPP, which had a chance after 1992 to fix this problem...either reform, recruitment or a draft....they kept a hands off these because a)they felt the army and police are “Afro” things, b)they felt it was not important for Indos to join these institutions, and, 3) they believe that they can fixed the race problem.

The PPP contributed to a mess created by the PNC.

To now argue that this situation was created by Burnham, ignores the fact that the PPP failed in its ability to correct the Burnham excesses.

V

I will add this....there is a trend here for Indos to always support going to the court to resolve a problem...what happen to mass protests and placard-carrying street disruptions?

Indos are not docile. I know some aggressive ones. But there is something about every Indo I met who always seem to share a fear of any Afro they see....thus the acceptance that Indos are cowards.

My sense is that this is changing with the younger generation.

Vish, I hear you weel and clear.
The PPP could not have taken control of the police or army. You know as anyone else, that if the PPP attempted to do this, there would have been a military coup. The PNC would have cried out racism and GT would be charcoal. Who owns most of the business in GT?
Where I give the PPP the blame is they never attempted to train some of their best people to infiltrate the force. The PPP should have appointed  a Security Minister who was an aggressive and fair black man with his knowledge that the forces must be balanced and he was responsible for accomplishing this. The drawback is that most coolies don't want to join the forces. However, that said, now that a lot of coolies are unemployed, there might be a chance for them to join if it's safe to do so.

I come back to what I said: No government should lend its law enforcement responsibility to a drug lord....

What do you think about the US using a convicted drug dealer to help catch a terrorist in Guyana?

When the US (or police) use criminals to catch criminals, they are not giving up on their law enforcement agencies to do their job, and those institutions are not compromised. Besides, they’re are established procedures for doing so and such actions have to be approved by people with authority who can authorize such actions.

In Guyana, the PPP government seems to have given up on the police and army, threw their weight behind an influential drug lord, clandestinely help him acquire spy equipment (allegedly), and seemed helpless, which a crime wave engulfed the entire nation, resulting from a number of massacres...this is a far cry from what occurs in the US or other countries.

No matter what the injustice, one should never descend into the inclinations of animals where one animal is ripped apart by another. The highest cathedral of civilization is the court and the PPP has wisely chosen that as their avenue of objection. I am fine with that. The previous PNC didn't last forever. In the end, the PPP were given a chance to demonstrate to Guyanese what democracy looks like. By trickery and with the help of some crabdog Coolies, the PNC forged themselves back in and in just about three plus years, they again demonstrated that they have not yet climbed down from the trees.

I am not saying that Indians wouldn't or don't defend themselves, families and properties. I am saying that they will not resort to the animalistic violent behavior of burning the place down. That is the PNC and their supporters' trademark.

Secondly, don't put Jagan down on account of Rodney. Jagan lived long enough to put democracy back in the lives of the people of Guyana. Rodney didn't accomplish any political victories and ended up dead by a bomb explosion. That makes Jagan a far greater success than Rodney.

It is no more than conjectures. RK had his operations and the PNC supported GPL and GDF tied their hands behind their backs and turned a blind eye to it.

We are going to have to disagree on Jagan and Rodney...Rodney’s legacy is intact...and will remain so. Most Guyanese dont understand his global impact...particularly the numerous amount of writings and his few books on Guyana...is is well known in academic circles....so he is more than the little blurb that people describe him to be because most Guyanese only know of his stint with the WPA.

Jagan is admirable for his sustained sacrifices, his honesty, and political commitment to socialism. Believe me, the more I read about him, the more I give him KUDOS for his desire to do good. BUT, Jagan was misguided, outmaneuvered by Burnham and he led a generation of Guyanese (mostly Indians who followed him loyally because of his charismatic appeals) into submission and migration from the land of their birth. The blame cannot simply be placed on Burnham...

The fact that Jagan lived long enough to “put democracy back...” was not a Herculean task of his..., nor was it of his own doing...it was the Carter Center and the end of the Cold War and the demise of the hawkish American conservatives who allowed Jagan to return to power....and he had a safe way of sliding in...the majority of Indos put him there. This current crop of Jagan’s Children dont know how to deal with the fact that they are no longer in a “majority” position or how to force the government to adhere to democratic principles.

If Jagan was a model of a political leader to emulate...then if the PNC wish to rule for another 28 years and disrespect constitutional rules...then Jagan will have to take the blame for this because he taught a generation of Guyanese to be silent victims, rather than liberating their minds to make them understand that there is such a thing as “NEVER AGAIN”.  That is the legacy of Jagan. Rodney may not have “accomplish any political victories” in Guyana but he taught and educate African peoples to be proud of who they are and to explore all methods of struggle “by any means necessary”.

What exactly is the legacy of Jagan?...to continue to protest quietly and trek what you get? If Jagan was more politically savvy and practical he would have established a legacy of transformation and radical leaders who would not have acquiesce to the current excesses of the current coalition...that is the difference. Jagan did not change the mentality of the people who followed him loyally.

The PPP faced a PNC whose reluctance to give up power resorted to taking to the streets and fermenting insurgency orchestrated by some of the very people in office today. The reaction of the PPP was to constitute an extra judicial force in the personage of of a drug lord to address criminals. They were wrong.

It is clear they did not trust the police since many of the leaders of the insurgency were former and current security forces. They should have appealed to the international community for aid to put down the unrest.

Now we have  you nitwits insisting that this is racial bad blood compounded by racist inclinations arguing  about which side of ethnic supremacy has the better hand.

Our only salvation in this new era of the state being a fat juicy prize for ethnic enrichment and to carry on this vile religion by both side is that we have  a strong mediating middle. Hopefully Shuman and the other parties will pick up enough seats to hold the greedy cretins in the PPP and the APNU in check. Guyanese with a love for their country should avoid these two diseased party and save our nation.
