The coalition is doing what it ought to do and since they were in office that is 3 months the PPP were not allowed to steal and treat the nation as its friend and family milk cow.

Rates have been reduced for one month, five months ago, and then increased back again and still at the increased rates. Not only GPL but gas prices for transportation vehicles.
The present Govt did not even want to reduce the price.

The APNU/AFC coalition is in trouble. The dissatisfaction expressed by one of the AFC’s Berbice stalwarts, Dr Veerasammy Ramaya, amounting to a not too veiled threat to quit, is only the latest symptom. Ramaya pointed out that while the critical element to the coalition’s electoral success was the AFC’s weaning away some of the PPP’s traditional supporters in Berbice, very little of the spoils of office were doled out to Berbicians. The AFC leadership in their response, implicitly and explicitly, derided Ramaya as an unprincipled individual not willing to soldier on for the “greater good”. The illustration of Ramaya refusing a $180000 monthly salary with a car but not a driver, was used to buttress their case. That case, however, would have been even stronger if the AFC leaders had themselves not necessarily rejected their monthly $1.2 million salary and benefits package, but merely protesting their proposed raises. The raise alone was larger than the total package offered to Ramaya. But as we said, Ramaya’s case is merely a symptom. The proximate cause of the conflict is that the coalition is a “coalition of convenience” – formed simply to remove the PPP from office. Now that the goal is accomplished, all the contradictions of such coalitions are rising to the surface. Firstly, as opposed to a “coalition of commitment”, coalitions of convenience do not have their members holding on to any particular ideological framework that can be used as a conceptual common ground on which their differences can be hammered out. In a coalition of confidence, it is “every man for himself, and the devil takes the hindmost”. Such an attitude is especially pronounced when, as in the instance of the present coalition, there is a “disequilibrium of size” between the parties. Before the elections, the marginal utility of the minuscule AFC loomed large because the APNU needed only a few seats to take them over the goalpost. These the AFC could provide – and they did. However, once the elections were over, the bargain would not seem as lustrous as before: especially when the AFC did not fare as well as had been predicted. The out of proportion allocation of seats and offices to the AFC would now seem to be extravagant. The APNU immediately set about rectifying what they felt to be an unfair distribution of offices, by diluting, in effect, the value of the offices offered to the AFC. The APNU accomplished this by simultaneously expanding the number of Ministries, degutting the responsibilities and powers of others and placing the AFC leaders into innocuous positions. In addition, they used Burnham’s 1964-68 gambit with his erstwhile coalition partner the United Force – buying out members of the smaller party by offering them side deals. At this time, it is pellucid to any objective observer that Raphael Trotman has “returned home” following his 2011 selection by APNU as the Speaker of the House in the 10th Parliament. He has been further handsomely rewarded by a huge reservoir of power over Natural Resources, National Patrimony and Governance. The previously derided Nagamootoo – “too recently tainted by PPP – was stripped of most of the powers that came with his nominal PM and VP’s offices. With the disequilibrium of size between the two parties, there was nothing the AFC could do about it even if they wanted to. Their only option was the one exercised at another level by Ramaya: to threaten to leave. This the top leaders refused to do and will have to face the consequences as the years go by and their irrelevance increases. Those consequences include, what has been colourfully described by the leader of the SFC, Khemraj Ramjattan, as becoming “dead meat” and the next outing at the polls. With the APNU threatening to conduct the adult (over 21 years) Local Government Elections, it would appear that the AFC will be facing a very pungent Christmas 2015.
Guyanese will soon realize that the AFC was used only as an instrument in creating a PNC dictatorship government.

Government is coming under immense pressure to lower the prices for fuel at the Guyoil Gas Stations across the country as world market oil prices continue to tumble, with US crude settling within range of a new six-and-a-half year low.
Chairman of the Trade and Investment Committee of the Private Sector Commission (PSC), Ramesh Dookhoo, pointed out that having cheaper fuel in Guyana can aid in the process of stimulating the economy, and as such, urged Government to work towards this.
Minister of Governance and Patrimony, Raphael Trotman already indicated that Government would consider slashing the prices for fuel at the Guyoil Gas Stations if the trend continued, but no action has been taken up to this time. Analysts speculate that the Government would hold off as long as it can so that the extra revenues it secures from Guyoil would swell its revenue stream. However, in the meantime, consumers are spending larger amounts on their gasoline and lessening their purchasing power on other essentials.
Dookhoo told Guyana Times that “unofficial sources” have reported that Government was currently working on lowering the prices.
“It will put more money into the economy and what we need in this point in time, significantly lower the cost of living… it will mean more disposal income, people pay less for fuel and have more money to do other stuff and this is what we need at this point in time,” he related.
Former Housing and Water Minister Irfaan Ali, who also held the portfolio of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, during the 2015 Budget Debate on Monday, had already challenged the Government to slash oil prices, if it was truly committed to its promise to deliver “a good life” for all. “Budget 2015 is presented when the price of oil has tumbled yet we hear of no reduction in the electricity tariff for the ordinary Guyanese,” the former Tourism Minister declared.
Recently, oil prices fell below US$42 per barrel, the lowest it has been since March 2009. Oil has lost about a third of its value since June.
Experts have already predicted that this progressive trend will last until yearend, resulting in oil and gas exploration companies cutting back on spending and cheaper fuel at pump stations across the world. While Guyana has experienced ExxonMobil halting its oil exploration off the Essequibo Coast, the country has not experienced the price plunge in gasoline.
At Guyoil Gas Stations, the price for gasoline stands at $210 per litre, the price for diesel stands at $174.7 per litre. At Shell Gas Stations, the prices are currently $229 per litre of gasoline and $188.5 per litre of diesel. At the Rubis Gas Stations, the price currently stands at $225.9 per litre for gasoline and $187.9 per litre for diesel.
When oil prices had drastically fallen in January, gas stations across the country, amid public pressure, slashed the local prices for fuel by some 30 per cent.
However, this turned out to be a fleeting experience for consumers as prices began to slowly increase in mid-March. International oil prices began to climb around May, but drastically fell again in July. Since then, prices have been fluctuating, although there have been no major increases or decreases until they crashed to below US$42 per barrel on Monday.

The Finance Minister said gasoline will now be sold for $168 per liter and diesel will be sold for $199.
Finance Minister Winston Jordan on Wednesday responded to the pleas of the citizenry and announced a reduction in the prices for gasoline and diesel at the state-owned Guyoil.
Jordan made the announcement at the opening of Wednesday’s sitting of the National Assembly and said the reductions will take effect from Thursday, August 20.
Over the last weeks, citizens have been demanding of the government a reduction in the prices in keeping with the drop in prices for fuel on the world market.
The Finance Minister said gasoline will now be sold for $168 per liter. Additionally, diesel will be sold for $199 per liter.
He said “it is hoped that this reduction trends in the right direction will be passed onto consumer especially in light of reopening of school”.
He said this move is in keeping with other measures in the 2015 budget which he presented just over a week ago.
According to Jordan, the government will continue to look for ways to help the poor and vulnerable. While government has no control over privately owned stations, it is hoped that those outlets will follow the administration’s lead and also reduce their prices.

You supported the Alliance because you claimed that they were more intelligent than the PPP ministers. Their qualifications indicate their intelligence but because of poor Leadership, things are moving slowly.

The coalition government is doing a lot of positive stuff, including a good budget. However, the good moves are being clouded by a failure to message properly. Some of the perception problems come from the fact that we move from a rabid micromanager (Presi Jagdeo) to an extreme hands-off delegator of duties (Presi Granger).

Management style is irrelevant. For any entity to succeed, they not only have to do good, but ensure that people know that they are doing good.
