Bob Marley

Chief, it was not Bob Marley that said those words (he just repeated them) it was Haile Salassie in his address to the League of Nations after Italy invaded Ethopia.

I was room mate with a jerk who said his uncle wrote it. His name was Tadasse Dasta I met him in a philosophy class.  Other Ethiopians treated him as royalty but he annoyed the hell out of me.  He created a thousand rules about what to do in the house and I was the one who rented it. I asked him to leave after a semester.   I saw him  years later  being interviewed with a bazooka on his shoulders. He was then fighter in the Ethiopian army. His family is rich. They are the Dasta group.

My Ethiopian friend told me the same thing also. It was a speech that was written for Haile Selassie.  So I guess both Haile Selassie and Bob Marley did not write the quote. They both just repeated it.

Chief, with all respect, Selassie was not as brutal as the man who overthrew him Mengistu Haile Mariam who is now 81 and lives in Zimbabwe as the guest of Robert Mugabe.

My Ethiopian friend who is from the Oromo tribe hates Selassie and he started freaking out at a West Indian function that  I took him to when West Indians started talking about how great Selassie was.

I have been looking at the Selassie administration and this is what I realized. Selassie was funding his personal expenses as Emperor by having a monopoly on Ethiopian beer companies. So when an Ethiopian person drank a bottle of beer then the profits of that bottle of beer went to upkeep the Emperor in his Palace.  It was an indirect tax on the Ethiopian people. The Emperor did not have the foresight to get into the medical marijuana business.
