Historian Tota Mangar robbed of vehicle at gunpoint

Mangar, who currently heads a World Bank-funded education project , said he sustained a slight cut under his chin during the ordeal that occurred at about 8:20 PM. "I am so traumatised, I couldn't go to work today," he said.

Police have so far been unable to locate the silver grey Toyota Escudo bearing license number PMM 6392. He theorized that the motive of the robbery might be for parts because there are few vehicles of that model in Guyana.

Mangar told Demerara Waves Online News that he had moments earlier left Moray House, Camp Street, Georgetown and had already entered his vehicle. Just as he was about to insert the ignition key, he said the front door and one of the back doors opened simultaneously.

Mangar said the man at the back seat placed a knife to his neck while his accomplice in the front seat brandished a gun at him while they demanded that he exited his vehicle. β€œThey said β€œgive me the keys, get out the vehicle” and all I did was complied,” said Mangar.
