Statistics and names of ethnic cleansing during the PPP’s reign

AUGUST 24, 2015 | BY  | FILED UNDER FEATURES / COLUMNISTSFREDDIE KISSOON

The talk coming out of the mouth of the Indian dominated PPP and its affiliate organizations, particularly the Indian Arrival Committee, now the Indian Action Committee, is that there is ethnic cleansing against East Indians by the APNU-AFC Government. The IAC has latched on to certain dismissals in the public sector.
This same IAC was on another planet when African Guyanese were supplanted in the same public sector and in scholarship award.
Mark Benschop was charged for treason. Oliver Hickson was charged for sedition and refused bail. A young mother Carol-Ann Munroe and her army husband Bruce were charged for treason along with a family friend, Leonard Wharton. All five named here were African Guyanese. Where were the voices of the PPP and the IAC that are shouting accusations of ethnic cleansing? To make matters worse, all the special prosecutors hired by the state to prosecute these five victims were Indians.
When an Indian, Chabilall Ramsarup was put in charge of Trade and Customs Administration of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) over Ingrid Griffith, a senior GRA official, who once acted in that position, the entire IAC was on vacation in India. Ramsarup at the time had no previous experience with Customs and Excise details. When the Jagdeo cabal refused to confirm Genevieve Whyte-Nedd as Chief Education Officer, thereby diminishing her pension entitlement, the entire IAC was on vacation in Pakistan
When the school board of South Ruimvedlt Secondary School recommended Ms. Dawn English to be Headmistress, the promotion was denied by the Teaching Service Commission, headed at the time by Mrs. Leila Ramson, the wife of Charles Ramson, former Attorney-General.
Where was the IAC when Ms. Smith was denied her right to be promoted? At the same time, in the Ministry of Education, Ms. Bibi Ally, mother of Minister Irfan Ally, was promoted to Deputy Education Officer for Development and Mrs. Manickchand (Priya’s mother) was promoted to Placement Officer for Secondary Schools. That job at the time was held by an African Guyanese Mary Luke. Smith, Whyte-Need and Luke were not promoted but Ally and Manickchand were. Would the IAC care to comment?
When Assistant Commissioner of Police, Paul Slowe refused an edict by Home Affairs Minister Gajraj to return a firearm to a Berbician who was under police investigation, Slowe was cast aside in an obscure office at Eve Leary.
Where was the IAC? When a drug enforcement officer, Maurice Smith searched the suitcases of the DPP and her husband at the airport, Smith was subsequently charged for drug trafficking. During the court trial it was revealed through his lawyer, Mr. Nigel Hughes that the DPP had written to Smith’s superiors requesting his dismissal. Smith’s case was that he was charged out of spite by the DPP. He was acquitted. How come the IAC didn’t see ethnic bias in the motivation to charge Smith?
When researcher Lyris Primi was investigating ethnic preference in the awarding of scholarships in the Public Service that favoured Indian, she was met by a stonewall at the Public Service Ministry, which refused to release data to her. She completed her study without the statistics from the Ministry. Where was the voice of the IAC?  Did the IAC know what happened to the father of the West Indies superstar cricketer, Carl Hooper at Guyoil under the PPP? Did the IAC cry racial discrimination then? Does the IAC know that between 2007 and 2010, 47 employees were dismissed from GWI and only one was Indian, the Internal Auditor?  Did the people in the IAC read the 2010 Budget?
It revealed that in that year, the number of special contract workers for the all the Ministries and ten Regions were 3,312. Of that number 82 percent were Indians.
Here are some names for the IAC on what the PPP did to the state media. The following African Guyanese were ousted; Margaret Lawrence, Ave Brewster, Enrico Woolford,  Basil Bradshaw, Kim Backer,  Stan Gouveia, Cynthia Nelson, Roger Moore, Dean Adonis, Mark Young and of course Adam Harris. Here are the names of Permanent Secretaries who became victims of ethnic cleansing under the PPP; Reginald Brotherson (Amerindian Affairs), Noel Adonis (Education), Claudette Moore (Labour), Philip Hamilton (Ministry of Information),  Nigel Gravesande (Trade); Steve Bovell (GEC now GPL); Walter Jordan (Guywa now GWI); Ivor English, (Transport and Harbour Dept.; Winston Jordan (Budget Director), Alan Johnson (Georgetown Hospital CEO)
What you have read here is just the tip of the iceberg of ethnic cleansing under the PPP, starting with Cheddi Jagan but it was under Jagdeo and Ramotar that ethnic demonization of African Guyanese became official policy.
Yes! I stand by the word, “official.”

The problem with this is we are not sure how much of this is true. If it is, its a sad reality of Guyanese politics. But the broader point is this: if it was wrong then, it is wrong now. We are still a deeply divided society.

FOOLISH ONE,

What is the point in repeating the information above on bold red letters???

Are you trying to say that if this was true in the past, it is OK now, and the IAC should keep their mouth shut??

As I said, if this was true, then we not made any improvement in how we govern ourselves nor have we come any closer to addressing this problem in this divided society. Kissoon is an idiot to say that this is "official"....call it what you will, and yes, there was plenty to complain about, but..we never had an apartheid system under the PPP.

If you have no solution to this problem, except to say that its OK now because the PPP did it, then keep your mouth shut. Because if you are alive 28 years from now, you will be on the other side of the fence and attack the coalition of ethnic cleansing.

What I am suggesting to you, is that the coalition campaigned on change, and they need to take the high moral ground on this issue, and come to the public to explain their position and convince the Indians that this is not witch-hunting and ethnic cleansing. Granger, the leader, remains aloof and has not made any public declarations or give a press conference to put the Indian population at ease.

So check yourself, and stop getting "giddy"...we need to fix the racial problem in this country, not create the perception that it is "abe time now"

Hope you can get this through your thick skull in that Canadian enclave in which you live or wherever you are exiled to.

Look, we all remember the days when one had to have a PNC party membership card in order to get a government job. Many government positions were staffed by PNC party members. This is where it started and to this day it is continuing. Because previous governments did it does not make it right for this government to do it too. The coalition promised real change in the way things would have been done. Many people supported them because of the change they promised.  Looks like more things change, the more they stay the same.

Typical racist reaction that we get from the GNI Indians.

Names were mentioned, which means that these facts can be verified, and yet because this removes your ability to scream "oh me poor Indian beaten up by savage blacks" you refuse to admit to it.

You do NOT have a right to discuss what the PNC did, or what APNU/AFC might be doing to Indians, if you do NOT concede that the PPP was no better.

If you don't like racism against Indians, do NOT condone racism against Africans.

So I deduce from your rant that it was OK to screw blacks, because they are sub humans. ]

Evidence has been presented that the PPP was racist, so why do you automatically support their screams of ethnic genocide?

Incompetent PPP supporters who were almost exclusively Indian, were put into positions that they didn't deserve.  So should they be retained?

And yes the PPP screamed that they were the party of unity, so why don't you hold them to the same standards that you are holding APNU/AFC?

Still waiting for the list of Africans, appointed by the PPP to head state entities that APNU/AFC has retained.   Is it that there were almost NONE?

If the PPP wants to establish the fact that;

1.  They were not guilty of racism and were fair in their appointments

AND

2.  that APNU/AFC is being racist,

then there must be ample numbers of Africans heading gov't entities, which APNU/AFC retained.

Aside from screaming that I am a racist, I expect no response.

And you want us to forget that one had to have a PPP card between 1961-64 and between 1992-2015.

Your point?  Evidence has been presented that the PPP was no better than was the PNC in the 1964-92 era.

Carib,

I am not denying or condoning. All I am simply saying is that there are no guilty races. I do not believe Kissoon's sensational point that this was "official" PPP policy...he has a deep hatred and bias towards the PPP, probably for good personal reasons.

I am asking the question: where do we go from here? This problem is cyclical. The IAC can be muzzled if the coalition, and Granger deal with this sensitive issue tactfully...surely you concede that this is a cyclical problem since independence and we are still a divided race...we have not moved any closer to being a united people.

Carib,

I swear, Sometimes I think you are a level headed brother from the same country, and we can see eye to eye on some issue, but there are times, like this one, when I think you woke up on the wrong side of the bed with guns ablazing... looking for any Indian who gets in your way....take it easy brother...

OK...so I agree with you here..."no innocent race" to quote Brother Eusi...now why you gotta lump all of us helpless Indo in the same leaky basket?

Start by admitting that the PPP was racist and it excluded Africans, in the same manner that the PNC did to Indians.

You are finding all sorts of excuses for the PPP.  These include querying whether the evidence of ethnic exclusion is true, or condemning Freddie K's honesty, and you might as well add Chris Ram, who has said much the same thing.

Continue by admitting that some of these people were incompetent, and corrupt, and were appointed for reasons of race and political affiliation.

Make the claim that some of those people DESERVE to be removed, as was the case for some of the Africans in 1992, when the PPP gained power.

What you do NOT do, is deny that the PPP engaged in racism (you imply this by querying as to whether the evidence provided is true).  Or suddenly becoming concerned about racial exclusion, now that you are part of a group which is potentially at risk of exclusion, now that an Indian dominated regime has been removed.

THAT doesn't win your bonus points from non Indians, and plays to their paranoia that Indians are clannish, and only care about their fellow Indians.

How can Africans trust Indians if they face a daily onslaught from Indians, as described by Danyael?

This is what we see here.

1.  Daily torrents of embarrassing racism peddled by the Indo KKK.  Very little response by the moderate Indians to condemn this behavior.  Danyael has given you an opportunity to do so in another thread.

2.  Caribj, itaname, and redux responding to this.

3.  Indians on GNI calling us racists, including YOU.

4.  Indians called us racists when we called out PPP racism, and this included moderates like TK, Chief, and Kari.

5.  NONE of the blacks who post here deny anti Indian racism during the Burnham era.

So what is some one to deduce about Indo Guyanese attitudes towards Afro Guyanese.  I can only judge by what I see here, and it is NOT good!

Zed, VVP, and the other "moderates" gone quiet.

Too bad cobra and the rest of the Indo KKK hijacked the "baad black man, poor innocent Indo" that they cannot publicly engage in this, without blowing their cover for being Indo KKK sympathizers..
