AMANAT ALI:

He came all the way from Pakistan to be a part of the vishwayudh in Zee's 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007' in India. Now, he is the only one left from his country, and he wants to be the voice of the world. We find out what makes this young contestant tick.

Q.: Amanat, you are the last contestant from Pakistan still fighting it our on the stage of 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa'. How do you feel?
A.: I feel great, although the pressure has increased, since I am the only one left. Honestly, it doesn't matter whether I'm from Pakistan or Hindustan. What matters is that I am in the top four. Now I have to work even harder.

Q.: You feel great? Despite the fact that all your friends from Pakistan have gone back? Haven't their eliminations upset you?
A.: I have also lost Indian friends in the eliminations. I felt equally bad for all the friends whether they were from Pakistan or India. I do not have any special feeling from contestants of Pakistan alone.

Q.: What is the feedback that you are getting from them?
A.: All their expectations are with me. They are happy that I'm still in the competition.

Q.: How much pressure are you under?
A.: There's too much pressure on me. As my guru Ismail Darbar ji says, "with the time that has elapsed and the fact that you have reached nearer your goal, my expectations have increased. You have to sing better than ever now." His words have inspired me, and strengthened my resolve to take on the increasing pressure as a step towards proving myself.

Q.: You have spent quite some time in India. Are you homesick?
A.: I do get homesick, but when I find love in the hearts of the audience, I do not feel that I am away from home. I wish it was possible for my family to come here and see the love that I have received.

Q.: The Indian audience saved you. How do you feel?
A.: I am really grateful to them. I'm trying to reimburse their affection by singing better everyday but the rest is in their hands.

Q.: You are in India for the first time. How has it treated you?
A.: I have told you earlier that I don't see any difference between the two countries, India and Pakistan. A border separates the two, otherwise I see the same roads, the same buildings and above all, the same love of the people. This country gave me inspiration to sing better.

Q.: Where have you been to in India till now? Tell us about your favourite places and dishes.
A.: I have been to Satara, Luknow, Allahabad, Ahmedabad, Delhi and many other places in the process of shooting. I have seen all the places in Mumbai. Satara and Mumbai attracted me the most. I like non-vegetarian food, and I'm happy that in Mumbai I can get it easily.

Here I like most sev puri, paani puri, bhel puri and vada pau. In Pakistan we call paani puri, gol gappe and it's a little different there. They serve water separately.

Q.: Songs from Pakistan have a better market in India. What do you think your scope in India is?
A.: I am happy that Pakistani singers have better acknowledgement in India. The singers from Pakistan like Soukat Amanat Ali, Atif Aslam, Rahat Fateh Ali, Ghulam Ali, Nusrat Fateh Ali and Adnan Sami are all very popular in India. They have developed a completely unique style.

I pray to Allah that I also can develop my own style. I'll launch my album after this competition, and I have faith that people will appreciate it.

Q.: Will you stay here for ever like other singers from Pakistan?
A.: I have tested my luck and have been somewhat successful. As far as living in this country is concerned I would very much want to, but I have to go back as my life is in Pakistan. However, I am also thinking of spending at least 10 months every year in India. Let us see.

Q.: If you have to choose any one between them?
A.: I'll definitely choose India.

Q.: Music has its own tradition in Pakistan.
A.: It's the same in Pakistan as in India. In Pakistan there are greats like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Nurjahan, Ghulam Ali or Mehendi Hassan, and in India, there are greats like Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Manna Dey ji and Rafi sahab. They are all equally respectable.

We have a saying, "take a brick from the ground and you'll find a singer underneath." Playback singing is big here, and most aspiring singers take Sonu Nigam as their idol. But things are different over there. They choose either Pop or Ghazal or Sufi.

Q.: Are you scared of losing?
A.: See, this is a competition and anyone can lose. I'm not afraid of losing. Even if I lose, I have won the love of the Indians.

Q.: How did you react when you heard that you were selected for this how?
A.: Coming to India was the best experience for me. I was so excited when I got to know that I was going to India. I had only heard about it till then, and it was a place I always wanted to visit. It is God's grace my dream came true. And I promised my friends that I'll tell them incidents of India after I go back to Pakistan.

Q.: You seem to have quite a heavy female fan following.
A.: There are many people who love me but you see only the girls! Maybe it is their love that has kept me hanging in so far.

Suprise Birthday - Amanat Ali

India might not be his country but Indians have been showering him with a lot of love. Amanat Ali, the Pakistani contender for the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007 title, has gathered quite a huge fan following here.

His popularity was evident during a recent public appearance at Jai Hind College last Wednesday. It happened to be Ali's birthday and the organisers threw a surprise party in the college itself.

The other contestants belted out all their favourite songs, but the crowd requested Ali to sing some slow numbers like Tujhse naaraj nahi jindagi. "One of the girls almost planted a kiss on my cheek," Ali blushes.

The mega finals will be held tonight at the Andheri Sports complex. A number of big names will be there - Akshay Kumar being the most prominent.

Kareena Kapoor - Splendid! You were fantastic! I want to give you standing ovation! The song you have chosen is my dadaji's favorite song. I have an emotional bonding with this song and whenever I am upset, I listens to this song and get cheered up. You stole my heart. I got emotionally choked! The softness, love in your song was very good. You will definitely make Pakistan proud.

AMANAT ALI:

His last song in the show, Tujhase Naaraaz Nahi Zindagi gave a new direction to the flow of the show. The colour of the show totally changed after he sang the song. One can say that he infused life in the song. It is a different story that the song itself is heart touching and it relates to everyone's life, but singing the song and maintaining its credibility is not everyone's cup of tea. A singer like Mika tried the song, taking the opportune time in the show, but he failed miserably to impress the audience.

Amanat, an ardent fan of Shah Rukh Khan, cried while singing the song. And it was felt by all the viewers sitting in front of the their TV sets. The finishing touch he gave to the end leg of the show cannot be better than the way he did it.

Music doesn't have any boundary, and Amanat Ali from Pakistan has proved the same. When he sings, people forget the tag of nationality he carries. People just forget everything. Now the programme has entered the last round. It doesn't matter who wins the musical show, whether the titleholder is from India or from the other side of the border, but the seer entertainment it has given to the viewers will be remembered for long. All the singers in the final lap are talented in art of singing.

WHAT NEXT FOR AMANAT ALI?

He is back in his home country Pakistan. Enjoying life with friends in Faisalabad and Lahore and also a little bit busy in completing his private album which he left half done to join the challenge in India.

As far his future assignments are concerned, he is doing one song for Bappi Laheri for K.C. Bokadia's movie "Junoon". Completed recording for Jai BalGanesh. Has some offer in Pakistan from movie makers but haven't given any "YES" to them yet. Keen to work as playback singer in bollywood rather. He prefers to build carrers in singing here in India. His private album recoded in Pakistan would be ready for release in February next year. World tour with music director Dabbu Malik is also in line. And the big one; he has recoded one song for bollywood King Shah Rukh khan.Talking about his future plan he says "First of all, I have decided not to reject any offer for playback singing. That's because I think that playback is a medium through which I will succeed in reaching out to my fans and audiences. Along with playback, I would continue cutting albums. This way I would always be in my listeners' hearts".

The moment he finished the song all the mentors, guests (Dus Kahaniyan cast and director), audience and the crew on the sets were in tears.. Amanat was asked to repeat the song three more times.. In my very breath, you speak, you speak
baahon mein aa jaa'o sapnon mein kho jaa'o
Come into my arms; lose yourself in dreams

You dwell, you dwell in the beats of my heart

(diiwaanon sa haal hua ham ko unse pyaar hua)2
I fell in love with her; I became like a madman
dhiire se voh paas aa'e chupke se izahaar hua
Slowly she grew close to me; silently she declared herself
(ab na kisi se Darna hai sang jiina marna hai)2
Now there is no one to fear; we live and die together
baahon mein aa jaa'o sapnon mein kho jaa'o
Come into my arms; lose yourself in dreams

tum dil kii dhaDkan me.n rahate ho rahate ho
You dwell, you dwell in the beats of my heart

(duniya ne thukaraaya hai bas tumne apnaaya hai)2
The world has spurned me; only you made me your own
dil ko kitna chain mila
What peace my heart gained!
sab ne itna sataaya hai
The rest have tortured me so
(apna hai ek sapna ek tuu hii ho apna.)
I have one dream: that you should be my own
sapnon me kho jaa'o
Lose yourself in dreams

tum dil kii dhaDkan mein rahate ho rahate ho
You dwell, you dwell in the beats of my heart
rahate ho rahate ho
You dwell, you dwell

kya main hii gaata rahuu.nga aur tum bhii kuchh nahiin kahogii
Should I keep singing while you say nothing?
rahate ho rahate ho
You dwell, you dwell
kahate ho kahate ho
You speak, you speak
baahon mein aa jaa'o sapnon mein kho jaa'o
Come into my arms; lose yourself in dreams

tum dil kii dhaDkan mein rahate ho bas tum rahate ho
You and only you dwell in the beats of my heart

Amanat Ali thanks India

Amanat Ali of Pakistan says he knew he would not win the Zee Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge. We ask him, is it because he is in India? Pat comes the answer: "I am the in top three only because of India."

Amanat received the highest number of international votes. And he is not disappointed at being judged second runner up. "Whenever I have performed, all the mentors have appreciated my singing and have said I am already a winner," adds the young singer.

"SMS voting is not allowed for people back home (in Pakistan). I spoke to the channel but they couldn't help in any way."

He says all the three final contestants -- he, the winner Aneek Dhar and first runner up Raja Hasan -- are winners because there was not a huge difference in the votes they received.

"Sa Re Ga Ma Pa has its own charm," continues Amanat. "Here, they don't give importance only to singing but (they) also groomed us in style and looks."

He says that thanks to the show's creative team, he has improved more in the last six months than in the last 20 years. He will go back to Pakistan on October 28 to renew his visa and embark on a world tour next month. He says he will definitely work in India.

Has he got offers back home in Pakistan?

"I have a few offers, but I have signed a two-year contract with Zee so everything has to go through Zee," he answers.

Amanat's mother, brothers and sisters had come from Pakistan to cheer him. While the singer is speaking to rediff.com, he gets a call from his father, who is in the US on work. Amanat's mother thanks everyone who voted for Amanat and also thanks Hindustan and the channel for giving them so much respect.

hi ASJ,

I am sorry, but I have to disagree about the comparison to Nusrat. Raja is very good, and is strong in many styles. His "Haaji Ali" was superb in its own way, but it takes a very special talent to catch Nusrat's style, and I think Raja does not quite make it.

Mussarat Abbas, on the other hand, is a very good candidate for the successor's job. My opinion.

And Venkat, I will agree with you that Raja is not fully there as yet and it will take some doing before he gets there as early on, when Raja Hasan was part of the deliciously tackily named Eklavya gharana (the gharana with no gurus) he was an unknown quantity. But he was called upon to fill a gap and his singing was nothing short of revelatory. Just as he emerged as a strong singer, Kalyanji showed up as a rather stern mahaguru (judge) and inexplicably sent him packing.

Thankfully Vishal-Shekhar used the wildcardashtra and restored him back to the show. And he went from strength to strength becoming as the House of Reshammiya put it "the most hyped singer of the show". Combining a huge voice with an innate ability to find and grab the emotion in the song, he delivered several fine and entertaining performances. He came across as simple, gracious, diplomatic, friendly and respectful. This helped him garner top votes in the early rounds

If he can continue with combination of voice with an ability to project the emotions like he did when he sang "Maa Tujhe Salaam" that evokes tears from listeners then the future looks bright for him.

Hey we know that Nusrat is Matchless, once in a lifetime comes such singer of calibre.

About Raja Hasan

At the age of seven, when the little kid called Raja Hasan Sagar gave his first singing performance, the the music pundits were stunned. It was a spell-bounding performance that left no doubt that this Raja Hasan would go on to make a name for himself.

Born in Bikaner, Rajasthan, singing was in his blood. Coming from a family, who were traditionally the royal singers of the Jodhpur state, singing came to him almost naturally. His gurus - father Rafiq Sagar and grandfather Allah Rakha Khan were his early mentors. As a kid he would copy his father's style of singing.

A product of Sardul School, Raja Hasan has three younger sisters. Raja Hasan Sagar left his studies in Bikaner, Rajasthan, to come to Mumbai eight years ago. He wasn't good in studies, and couldn't pass his Standard 12 examinations. He told his mother that he wanted to make a career in music. She supported Raja and told him that he should make it big".

In Mumbai, things were a struggle. Raja Hasan used to sing ghazals at a popular resort on the outskirts of Mumbai. He even tried his hand at music direction but it didn't work. He has even sung a ghazal for the movie Khosla Ka Ghosla. He shuttles between Mumbai and Bikaner as he performs bhajans and ghazals.

Raja has has also travelled widely - his stage shows in the Middle East were hugely popular.

The Saregamapa Story

It was an up and down path for Raja Hasan at Saregamapa. He wasn't selected into the final list. He however made it to the "stand by" list of singers known as the "Eklavya" gharana. In the Eklavya gharana, he sang Subah Subah from I see You, which pleased Vishal-Shekhar. His performance of "Meri Zindagi Ek Payaas" from Judaai moved Aditya Narayan, and soon there was a slight spotlight on his talent. He managed to get into the main draw. His Allah Ke Bande performance won him instant fans across the globe, and suddenly this man with curly hair and an innocent smile was hot property.

But things still weren't going his way. He again was eliminated by judge Anandji, who felt Amanat Ali's performance was superior that day. Raja's accepted the decision smiling, and that moved many people. In the first public voting of the season, where eliminated singers could be voted back into the show, Raja struck gold. He got almost one-third of the votes and was brought back into the main draw.

For the next three weeks, his performances mesmerised people - he continued topping the public voting list.

'Music was always in my blood' - Raja Hasan Sagar

Raja Hasan Sagar, one of the finalists of SaReGaMaPa does not need any introduction anymore. He has won all hearts with his soulful singing, and here is he talking about his journey thro' SRGMP.
Raja's journey to the finals of SRGMP has been a topsy-turvy one. Even though he got selected for the show, he did not get selected in any Gharana and so became a part of the "Eklavya Gharana". Later Vishal Shekhar selected him for their Gharana, but his brilliant performance on the song Allah Ke Bande could not save him from going into Chakravyuh. And with him that week was none other than Amanat, who in the Chakravyuh round gave a tough competition and got selected. Raja was again eliminated from the contest. Then it was the Brahmastra Round and Vishal Shekhar, while choosing contestants made sure to get Raja back into the contest. After that, he never looked back. What does he say about this? "Frankly, I never thought that I'll reach the finals. But somewhere down the lane, had a faith too that maybe all the blessings that I got from my elders, my parents would not go waste. I had lot of faith on Allah too."

Raja got his singing training mainly from his Maternal Grandfather. His father, Rafiq Sagar is himself a ghazal singer and also a music director. Even he had a big role to play in grooming Raja as a singer. "Music was always in my blood",that's what Raja says. And how much has SaReGaMaPa helped him grow as a singer? "There has been lot of change when I see myself singing now. Here we are not just learning to sing songs on the stage for the show, but also from all these mentors, SRGMP Guru's and our Music Directors Mukeshji and Sanjayji. Thy have all guided us a lot. They all taught us many finer details of singing, more importantly playback singing and its ways of presentation."

'Music was always in my blood' - Raja Hasan Sagar

Now Raja is a star and even he knows that. Lot has changed in his life now. "There is a big difference in life now. There's a saying - As long as you had not bought me, none knew about me and now you made me priceless. Same has happened with us now. As long as we were not in SRGMP, none knew us on the road. But now, it is difficult to walk down the streets." And he thanks Zee TV and SaReGaMaPa producers for making this dream of his come true.
Because of his friendly nature, he is on friendly terms with all the contestants. But he is more close to Aneek. What does he have to say about his other two finalists and how much chance do they have of winning? "It could be any of them. Amanat is a brilliant singer, so is bound to have a big fan following. Aneek, besides being a good singer has many other plus points. He is very innocent and pure at heart. These things also matters a lot to win fan following. I think any of these two can win this contest." And what about him and to this query, he just laughs it off.

Even though he has reached the finals, and is just one step away from getting the crown, this boy from Bikaner stays humble and rooted to the ground. He is not even eyeing the coveted prize, and has just one message for his fans, "I would like to thank them all to have made me reach this pinnacle. I win or not does not matter. I just have a request that you all pray I sing well and go on doing so ever, so that I can stay in your heart always."

Born in Bikaner, this soulful singer did not achieve this success overnight, and had to cross many milestones and yet the smile on his face never fades. His fan base is truly intact, and with the finals being just one week away, his fans are giving their best to make him the winner. This contestant who is already a star has a long way to go in the music industry, and sure that he will make a stand of his own. We all wish him luck for the finals and for his bright future!!

Raja Hasan is a singer in the *Sufi mould. Some of his most memorable efforts on this show will be presented. Raja's style and voice doesn't suit soft romantic numbers, but when he sings those Sufi numbers he pours his soul, and divinity into them putting everyone in a trance. Raja is quite popular among Indian voters and they always seem to want more from him whenever he picks up the microphone.

Sufi Mould: Nusrat Fateh Ali, The Sabri Brothers and a few more: The Qawalli type singing.

Raja has inherited music therefore he looks very normal and keeps smiling while performing even the most complicated classical songs.Raja efforts and melodious singing makes him a new heart throb of the music world all across India. With his mellifluous voice Raja has won many hearts in Middle East too. During his stage shows in abroad Raja has made people dance on his tune.

Raja has practiced the classical singing for almost 18 years. His first song at the age of 7 where he left everybody stunned with his amazing performance and the music Pandits had announced the advent of a true genius. The little prodigy of then has turned into a well built handsome Raja at present a true champion of the music world. VANDE MATARAM Song Lyrics
AR RAHMAN

Yahan vahan saara jahan dekh liya
Ab tak bhi tere jaisa koi nahin
Main assi nahin, sau din duniya ghooma hai
Naahi kaahe tere jaisa koi nahin
Main gaya jahan bhi, bas teri yaad thi
Jo mere saath thi mujhko tadpaati rulaati
Sab se pyaari teri soorat
Pyaar hai bas tera, pyaar hi
Maa tujhe salaam, maa tujhe salaam
Amma tujhe salaam
Vande maataram, vande maataram
Vande maataram, vande maataram
Vande maataram, vande maataram
Janam janam tera hoon deewana main
Jhoomoon naachoon gaaoon tere pyaar ka taraana
Main jeena nahin soch nahin duniya ki daulat nahin
Bas lootunga tere pyaar ka khazaana
Ek nazar jab teri hoti hai pyaar ki
Duniya tab to meri chamke damke maheke re
Tera chehra sooraj jaisa chaand si thand hai pyaar mein
Vande maataram, vande maataram
Vande maataram, vande maataram
Vande maataram, vande maataram
Tere paas hi main aa raha hoon
Apni baahein khol de
Zor se mujhko gale laga le
Mujhko phir voh pyaar de
Tu hi zindagi hai, tu hi meri mohabbat hai
Tere hi pairon mein jannat hai
Tu hi dil, tu jaan, amma
Maa tujhe salaam, maa tujhe salaam
Amma tujhe salaam, maa tujhe salaam
Vande maataram, vande maataram
Vande maataram, vande maataram

For those of us including myself who at onetime or the other wondered to know the meaning of Vande Mataram

IT IS INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT THERE WAS A LOT OF CONTROVERSY, SOURROUNDING IN MAKING THIS ONE OFFICIAL: THEN LATER IT WAS DECIDED NOT TO MAKE IT COMPULSORY. MUSLIMS OBJECTED TO THE FOLLOWING VERSES:

Thou art Durga, Lady and Queen,
With her hands that strike and her
swords of sheen,
Thou art Lakshmi lotus-throned,

IT IS A NATIONAL SONG OF INDIA NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE NATIONAL ANTHEM:

The religious predicament of the Muslims was understood in the right spirit decades ago by Jawaharlal Nehru. In October 1937, when the Congress Working Committee met in Calcutta under the Presidentship of Nehru, it adopted a resolution which said, "The Committee recognizes the validity of the objection raised by Muslim friends to certain parts of the song. While the Committee has taken note of such objection insofar as it has intrinsic value, the Committee wishes to point out that the modern evolution of the use of the song as part of National life is of infinitely greater importance than its setting in a historical novel before the national movement had taken shape. Taking all things into consideration, therefore, the Committee recommend that, wherever Bande Mataram is sung at national gatherings, only the first two stanzas should be sung, with perfect freedom to the organisers to sing any other song of an unobjectionable character, in addition to, or in the place of, the Bande Mataram song." (Quoted by A.G. Noorani in the Frontline, Jan 2-15, 1999).

MAA TUJHE SALAAM:

Mother, I salute thee!
Rich with thy hurrying streams,
bright with orchard gleams,
Cool with thy winds of delight,
Green fields waving Mother of might,
Mother free.

Glory of moonlight dreams,
Over thy branches and lordly streams,
Clad in thy blossoming trees,
Mother, giver of ease
Laughing low and sweet!
Mother I kiss thy feet,
Speaker sweet and low!
Mother, to thee I bow.

Who hath said thou art weak in thy lands
When swords flash out in seventy million hands
And seventy million voices roar
Thy dreadful name from shore to shore?
With many strengths who art mighty and stored,
To thee I call Mother and Lord!
Thou who saves, arise and save!
To her I cry who ever her foe drove
Back from plain and sea
And shook herself free.

Thou art wisdom, thou art law,
Thou art heart, our soul, our breath
Though art love divine, the awe
In our hearts that conquers death.
Thine the strength that nerves the arm,
Thine the beauty, thine the charm.
Every image made divine
In our temples is but thine.

Thou art Durga, Lady and Queen,
With her hands that strike and her
swords of sheen,
Thou art Lakshmi lotus-throned,
And the Muse a hundred-toned,
Pure and perfect without peer,
Mother lend thine ear,
Rich with thy hurrying streams,
Bright with thy orchard gleems,

In thy soul, with jewelled hair
And thy glorious smile divine,
Loveliest of all earthly lands,
Showering wealth from well-stored hands!
Mother, mother mine!
Mother sweet, I bow to thee,
Mother great and free!

(Iss dasht mein, ek shahar tha)2, woh kyaa hua, aawaragi
In this desert stood a town, what happened to it? Loneliness!
Yeh dil, yeh paagal dil mera

(Ek tuu ke sadiyon se mere humraah bhi, humraaz bhi)2
There you are, for centuries, my fellow and confidant
(Ek main ke tere naam se,)3 aaya shana, aawaragi
Here I am, I had not even heard of you, Loneliness!

Yeh dil, yeh paagal dil mera, kyon bhuj gaya, aawaragi
This heart, this crazy heart of mine, why did it die? of loneliness!
(Iss dasht mein, ek shahar tha)2, woh kyaa hua, aawaragi
In this desert stood a town, what happened to it? Loneliness!
Yeh dil, yeh paagal dil mera

The loneliness of the pain, the arid crossing of the desert,

We have grown weary, tell us about yourself, Loneliness!

(Ek ajnabee jhaunke ne jab, poochha mere gham ka sabab,)2
An unfamiliar gust of wind asked me the reason for my sorrow
(Sehraa ki bhiigi reyt par)2, main ne likha, aawaragi
On the wet sands of the desert I wrote, Loneliness!

Yeh dil, yeh paagal dil mera, kyon bhuj gaya, aawaragi
This heart, this crazy heart of mine, why did it die? of loneliness!

Yeh dil, yeh paagal dil mera

(Le, ab to dasht-e-shab ki saarii usratein sone lagii)3
Look, now all the troubles of the desert night have gone to sleep,
(ab jaagana hoga hamay,)2 kab tak bataa, aawaragi
Tell me. please. how much longer must I stay awake? Loneliness!

Yeh dil, yeh paagal dil mera, kyon bhuj gaya, aawaragi
This heart, this crazy heart of mine, why did it die? of loneliness!

Perhaps it will suit me well forever, this Loneliness!

Yeh dil, yeh paagal dil mera, kyon bhuj gaya, aawaragi

Yeh dil, yeh paagal dil mera,
ALBUM: LIFE STORY

Quote:
In Urdu, "aawaragi" has many meanings - immorality, dissoluteness, irresponsibility, wantonness, etc. But the meaning (not commonly taken) of loneliness, the painful loneliness of a person that does not want to conform, a free spirit, who has been dismissed by the world as a madman, probably best fits the thoughts in this ghazal. His once-spirited heart has withered away by the rejection, the light has gone out. He vows that he cannot live in a world where non-conformity is a sin, and discovers that his only true companion is his loneliness. How beautiful!" end quote.

The poet is asking why is the heart so subdued, where is its glitter, its shine?the meaning of saying ,in the heart there was a city,is simply that it was full of people,it loved but now has become desolate.ie.the heart is totally forlorn and like a desert, dead

'I don't want to misuse the fame'

Do you think reality shows really help you to become a good singer?

Reality shows give us a big platform -- to be in the public eye, we have to work hard and try and get a place in the industry. I don't want people to remember me just as winner of SaReGaMaPa Challenge but as a good singer.

Will you continue with your studies?

Yes. I have completed by 12th standard. I was unable to go to college because of this competition. After the world tour, next year I will try to take admission in one of the colleges in Mumbai or Kolkata.

Your thoughts on fame at a young age?

I saw in a career counselling programme that fame at a young age can be dangerous. I will live with my parents and don't want to misuse the fame.
