Online banking is out of the question for me on a mobile phone. Too many security risks.
Home wifi can be made very secure. My favourite way is don't broadcast the SSID, use the latest encryption method if supported by the router and your PC.
For added security, have your router wired into another router. That router is then connected to the internet. Install security options on both routers, and limit access to the routers by specifying the MAC addresses of the allowed PCs etc. in the router security page.

I have FIOS modem/router. You saying that you could hook up another router to the existing router?
Yep, been doing that for years. Plug the WAN input/output of the main secured router into one of the LAN port of the internet enable router.
You can let visitors use the router that is connected directly to the internet, but reserve your secure router just for yourself and anyone else who needs absolute security.

You can connect (daisy chain) any number of routers - just use /30 networks to conserve IP space.
MAC restrictions is not recommended because MAC address is easy to clone.

What about encryption? Can you use different encryption on each router? I am running out of Ethernet ports so I was thinking of attaching another router.
