Plane with Brazilian soccer team crashes in Colombia

A plane carrying 81 people, including a Brazilian professional soccer team, crashed in Colombia late Monday.

Gen. Jose Acevedo, the head of police in the area where the jet came down, said that five people survived while the rest of the passengers killed.

Poor weather conditions were reported at the time of the incident. The airport later said rescue operations had been suspended because of heavy rain.

The chartered jet operated by LaMia was carrying Chapecoense, a soccer team which plays in Brazil's top division. It crashed at around 10 p.m. ET while on its way to Medellin's international airport.
