I do not post abusive comments, but this post is stretching my patience. This is horrifying, as it is horrifying when it happens anywhere else.

Please tell me this stuff  you posted is not a reflection of your humanity, your soul. Please tell me how many shootings at mosques make it "uncommon".

This is an unfortunate fact that hopefully Muslims will one day find a solution to. It may be time for Muslims to pick up the pen again.

Zed, hopefully no one wants anyone being killed at mosques but T made a valid point. It is something that Muslims have to come to terms with.

Scenes of police activity following Quebec City mosque shooting
Two gunmen opened fire in a Quebec City mosque during evening prayers on Sunday, killing six people and injuring eight others, in what Justin Trudeau called a “terrorist attack on Muslims.”

Police spokeswoman Christine Coulombe said 39 other people survived Sunday’s shooting at the Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec on Sainte-Foy St. The victims ranged in age from 35 to 60, police said.

Quebec provincial police said two suspects were arrested — one near the mosque, and another near Île d’Orléans, about 40 kilometres away. Police said nothing leads them to believe that other people were involved.

At a press conference early Monday morning, Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard said he was “horrified” by the attack and said there is no doubt in his mind the killings constituted an act of terrorism.

“This is a murderous act perpetrated against a specific community and with considerable means,” he said. “You can’t play around with semantics here.”

Addressing Quebec’s Muslim population, he said: “We are with you, you are at home, you are welcome at home, we are all Quebecers. Together, we must continue to build a society that’s open, welcoming and peaceful.”

“We condemn this terrorist attack on Muslims in a centre of worship and refuge,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement.

“On behalf of all Canadians, Sophie and I offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of all those who have died, and we wish a speedy recovery to those who have been injured.

Quebec City Mayor Regis Labeaume said his thoughts went out to the victims and their families.

“We have the impression we are dreaming,” said Labeaume. “Quebec City, this magnificent city, is in mourning. I have often said in recent weeks that, despite the peace we have here, we are not immune (to attacks). Well, this has just proven that.”

The president of the mosque told Postmedia News that he received a call about the mass shooting around 8 p.m.

“This is a terrible event,” Mohamed Yangui said. “We’re in a state of shock, I can’t find words to describe it.”

He said between 60 and 100 men, women and children regularly attend evening prayers at Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec. The mosque has about 5,000 members and is one of six in the Quebec City region.

The mosque issued a Facebook statement early Monday after confirmation of the six dead.

“All our thoughts are with the children who have to be told their father has died,” said the Centre Culturel Islamique de Quebec
“May Allah give them patience and strength.”

Last June, worshippers at the same mosque discovered the severed head of a pig left in front of one of the doors, wrapped in cellophane with bows and ribbon, and a card that said “bonne appétit.”

The incident took place during Ramadan, a month-long celebration during which Muslims fast between sunrise and sunset. Muslim dietary laws forbid eating pork at any time.

Three weeks later, an Islamophobic letter titled “What is the most serious: a pig’s head or a genocide” was distributed in the vicinity.

But Yangui said the mosque had not received any threats recently.

“We have a very good relationship with the neighbours, with the community,” he said. “There’s mutual respect – and now today we have this dramatic event.”

The mosque has several video cameras and Yangui said their footage might be able to help with the police investigation.

Quebec City Constable Étienne Doyon told reporters that police received a call around 7:55 p.m. on Sunday, stating that shots had been fired at the Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec on Sainte-Foy St. He said two suspects had been arrested.

Friends and bystanders around the security perimeter stood huddled in the cold, incredulous, unable to believe that such violence could occur in Quebec City, a city with a notoriously low crime rate.

Ben Abdallah, who often prays at the Ste-Foy mosque, described the event as “catastrophic. We never thought…. but given the hateful speeches all around the planet, it can happen,” he said.

Hamid Nadji had friends who were inside the mosque at the time of the shooting. He spoke to them afterward, and described the scene as “a carnage.”

“From what we heard over the phone, one person had a weapon discharge in his face because he had wanted to jump on the man to stop him. And the three others died because they wanted to catch the man.”

He said an assailant went into the mosque a first time then left to recharge his weapon and came back a second, then a third time.

“Many of the people who lived this fled their home countries to avoid such situations, because they lived through trauma and didn’t want the same for their children.”

A man who said he was a witness to the attack told Radio-Canada two masked suspects entered the mosque. The man said the men appeared to have thick Québécois accents and shouted “Allahu akbar” as they began shooting. He said the bullets struck people who were praying. His account was not corroborated by any other witnesses.

Police blocked the area off, while a coffee shop stayed open beyond normal hours and served free coffee.

Neighbourhood resident Carol-Ann Andrews said such an attack was “pretty surprising” for Quebec City.

“My thoughts went immediately to what was happening in the United States with all the laws and all the immigrants that are not allowed to come back,” she said.

“Unfortunately there are people in the world whose minds are not totally OK so it could have given them an idea to get rid of other people. It’s pathetic.”

Asked whether she feels safe, she replied, “We’re not safe anywhere any more.”

A non-profit group that fights Islamophobia in Quebec said it has been asking authorities “for years” to deal with threats and attacks on Quebec mosques.

The Collectif Canadien Anti-Islamophobie said on Twitter Sunday night that the Quebec City attack was preventable but nothing was done.

The shooting came two days after U.S. President Donald Trump imposed an American travel ban that has barred citizens of seven majority-Muslim countries from entering the United States.

Vigils are planned in Montreal and Quebec City on Monday.

Quebec City Mayor Régis Labeaume said his city stands with the families of the victims and members of the mosque, and will support them through this “terrible ordeal that defies reason.”

Montreal police chief Philippe Pichet said the department will be more visible at certain locations, is in contact with the Muslim community and will meet with community leaders Monday morning.

Gatineau Mayor Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin said police in his city have increased patrols around mosques in the city.

Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale tweeted Sunday he is deeply saddened by the loss of life, his office says no motive has been confirmed.

À la suite de cet acte terroriste, j'ai demandé à l'#assnat de mettre en berne de notre drapeau du #Québec. #tousunis

— Philippe Couillard (@phcouillard) January 30, 2017

“All our solidarity is with those who are close to the victims, the injured and their families,” he said.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also weighed in on the tragedy.

“Tonight, Canadians grieve for those killed in a cowardly attack on a mosque in Quebec City,” he tweeted.

“My thoughts are with victims & their families.”

Governor General David Johnston tweeted that he was “shocked by the unspeakable attack against innocent people.”

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo also denounced the attack.

French President Francois Hollande condemned the “odious attack” and offered support for Canada’s leaders.

Hollande, whose country has suffered a string of Islamic extremist attacks, said in a statement that “it was the Quebecois spirit of peace and openness that the terrorists wanted to harm” in Sunday’s attack.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s spokesman also condemned the “despicable” attack.

Could be some extremists too who shouted "Allah Hu Akbar" in a sarcastic way repeating what Muslims say when they kill others too.

Canada's PM called it a Terrorist attack on Muslims, I call it WHITE TERRORISM. How coincidental this happens soon after Trump put a BAN on Muslims from seven countries entering USA, I blame TRUMP for this despicable act, he has BLOOD on his hands. It will show that these murderers are not Muslims.

When these things happen, for at least a day, people who have a sense of humanity will post their condolences, etc, . This is not the time to score points or make such statements that really devalue life.

Please expand on what you mean about Muslims coming to terms with something. What is this "something"? Is it the shooting at mosques, devaluation of Muslim lives specifically and all human life generally, or is really uncaring and insensitive statements by some when these tragedies occur?

we need to start naming these statements and act for what they are, not allow them to pass unquestioned or try to appease those who make them or commit these acts.

Maybe this was a result of Trudeau calling for the acceptance of Muslims who are being rejected by Trump. Is it safe to say if these are white killers, they are sending a message to the Muslims in Canada that they are not welcome there? Maybe we will see the "paki" hate resurrected all over.

This Mosque was a target several times before. The people from Quebec are the most racist . About over thirty years ago I drove with my family for a vacation in OLD Quebec City , I was running a little low on gas ,so I stopped a no name station to fill up, the attendant refuse to sell me gas because I can't speak French, a French speaking person pulled up and told me to go a few miles and gas up at an ESSO station. The Quebecors  are racist against all who don't speak French, mind you there are lots of Blacks from Haiti in Quebec.

Interesting updates.

Two university students are in custody for the shooting.

Quebec media are identifying the suspects as Alexandre Bissonnette and Mohamed Khadir. But the police refused to reveal their identify, despite repeated questioning. "It is not known when they will appear in court. It's too early to talk about the motive. It is too early to specify what charges will be laid." The suspects are said to be in their late 20s and early 30s.

Trump didn't ban Muslims.  He banned everyone, excluding citizens and green card holders, from the seven countries identified in Obama's Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015.

One news source said that this terrorist attack is due to Justin Trudeau willingness to accept Muslims and refugees rejected from the US into Canada. Justin Trudeau called it a terrorist attack. The attackers: One Muslim and one French/Canadian. Motive: not yet known, but we can speculate. Is this boy will ever become a man and grow some balls?

I don't know when I am going to die, but every time I said something, it become the fact the next day.
