Secrecy behind proposal for sale of PNC land to businessman causes uproar at General Council meeting

The manner in which a deal for the proposed sale of a piece of land owned by the People's National Congress (PNC) was made has created quite a stir among the party's membership. A party member revealed that the proposal was facilitated through secret negotiations between party leader David Granger and several others and the wider membership only became aware after it was announced at a recent General Council meeting.

The proposal in question is an offer of $75M made by the owner of Comfort Sleep for the piece of land which is located aback of the PNC's Congress place Sophia headquarters. Persons in the membership who attended the party's most recent General Council meeting have vowed to continue raising questions over the issue as they feel that the party was short-changed. Those who expressed their views against the sale said that it was a small clique led by Granger which took the decision on to sell the land and then sought to legitimize it by quickly running it through the party's General Council. The absence of any competitive bidding process was also raised as this would cause the party to loose out in terms of attracting the best prices.

The Granger led PNC/APNU has often accused the ruling PPP/C government of making secret deals in the privatization of state assets. Though being provided with all the documentation these claims have persisted and have been amplified by the opposition aligned media which incidentally did not provide any coverage to the issue of the PNC land sale.

The PNC can have a horse as its candidate and it's base will be there. Why is it that Jagdeo, with no experience won the Presidency not because of hardened race based votes?

The PPP however is the one with its bark to the wall. They have no explanation for their rapid rise to wealth except theft. They nave no excuse for their autocracy. They have no excuse for doing nothing to foster democracy. They are the ones with a the rug being pulled from under them.

The PNC(now APNU) which ran Guyana bankrupt while in government has demonstrated the same ineptitude when it comes to managing its own finances. Over the last few years the party has been forced to sell some of its properties in order to pay mounting debt, the latest such incident being the sale of land at its Sophia head office to a businessman for $75M. How can we therefore expect a political party which ran Guyana’s economy to the ground while in office and is unable to manage its own finances to once again preside over Guyana’s economic resurgence?

If it wasn't for their side kick, the AFC, the PNC would have long gone into the political wilderness, but the support given to them by the AFC would be short-lived, at the next elections, both the AFC&APNU would go into the political wilderness hand in hand.

So, Guyanese taxpayers and toll payers cannot see income statements and balance sheets of the bridge authority.
