SCA remembers late stalwart Budh-Dave Anandjit

October 26, 2014

TORONTO, Canada – Glowing tributes were the order of the day  when the Scarborough Cricket Association (SCA) held its 34thannual  presentation dinner and dance at the Eastown Banquet Hall last Sunday  night. The tributes were attributed to the  late Budh-Dave Tewari Anandjit, the former long-standing stalwart  executive and member who passed away on July 22 last at the age of 53. Anandjit, who was the brother of Davteerth Anandjit, the former  president of the Guyana Cricket Umpires Council (GCUC), served the SCA  with distinction for over two decades, having joined the body in 1990.

Prior to that, he was a member of the Raiders and Ramblers Cricket  Club and a founding-member of International Sports Club (ISL) in 1988. During his sojourn in the SCA, Anandjit served in various capacities,  but will be fondly remembered for his association with the development  of several talented youth cricketers. This fact was fully highlighted  when the SCA presented a plaque to his wife Liz, praising Anandjit for  his selfless contribution to the development of cricket in the  Scarborough area. As a Level Two coach, Budh-Dave concentrated heavily on teaching the  youths the game of cricket in the SCA and Toronto & Districts  (T&D). Anandjit was also a Level Two umpire and officiated in several games in  the SCA and the Ontario Softballl Cricket League (OSCL) over the years.  He also played for Golden Touch in the OSCL tournaments. Not satisfied with his prowess in cricket, Anandjit volunteered his time with Parks and Recreation in Toronto while assisting the youths and was also an ardent golfer. The late Guyanese was also credited as being the first player to hit six sixes in an over in Scarborough while his club ISL achieved the unique  distinction of winning three consecutive Premiere League titles. He was  also part of the winning combination when Kaieteur captured the title. Born at Wash Clothes, Mahaicony Creek, East Coast Demerara, Guyana,  Anandjit later moved to Courbane Park, Annandale and attended Queen’s  College High School in Georgetown before he migrated to Canada in 1983. The union between himself and Liz Anandjit produced three children in  Pretima, Jodh and Jaya Anandjit and apart from Davteerth, his other  siblings are Bram, Silla, Subhas, Gyan, Monsranie, Tara, Kulwant,  Chinta, Nate and β€˜Chano’. * The lady in white clearly stands out---you can't miss her.

Simplicity is the key note of all true elegance. A woman can't go wrong with a white dress.

* What says you Mr. gilbakka ? You seem to be a man of exquisite style and  taste.

Gilbakka is all for sartorial simplicity and leads by example. Mrs G is not like Mr G but that's her choice and her money so I stay silent.

Meanwhile, don't interrupt Mr G while he is admiring the Lady in White.

Hello Chameli,

I read of the passing of Bud-Dave and is shocked and very sad. As a former colleague of his, I played cricket in the SCA League starting in the summer of 1989 and have pleasant memories of the interactions with him. I was a member of the Ramblers team at that time and remembers the rivalry we had with ISC during the games. We were terrified of his prowess as a cricketer but really liked him as a person. Our games were intense but after each game we would have a very nice time hanging out and replaying the strategy employed by each team to out play each other. We played most of our games at Ashtonbee ground.

I am late in finding out about Bud-Dave passing, but wanted to express my condolences to you and your family. As someone who rubbed shoulders with him, I found him to be a truly nice person and very sharp witted.

My humble prayer for you and your family is that you all have the blessing to be a strong(er) unit that will enjoy the present and future joys of life to the fullest, knowing that Bud-Dave was a key part of your journey.

Kind Regards,

GTS.

Chameli -

That is a nice momento you have there (ISC 91, 92, 93). Kinda "showoffish", but I like it.

Seriously - ISC was a bad horse team.

I just realized something.... (Ramblers)==>(ISC)==>(Kaieteur). With the merger of ISC and Kaieteur, we all became one, and it seems that the progressive building started with Ramblers.

Was ISC spawned from Ramblers? Somehow I seem to think so, but

not sure.

This discussion is a nice tribute to your "Jeewan Ki Saathi".....

Nehru,

I remember Ishwar - and he had the reputation of being a good cricketer, but I do not recall him excelling against us in any of the games. Not a knock on him, but more of my recollection of how the games went. However - after such a long time, my memory might not be the best. Was Ishwar from LBI?

I am trying to remember another set of brothers who were really good cricketers ( not sure of the team) one of them was called "Bramchari" but I cannot recall the other names. Good memories with those guys as well.

Actually Nehru - it is the pic in your handle that reminded me of them. Those guys were active Samajist.

Mai Maaf Kie Jiyea Aunty Ji

It was not clear to me which one he is in the pic....

I am tempted to say that he is sitting behind Bisham, next to Ganesh in the second row, but not 100% sure. I apologize in advance if I am wrong.

BTW - in the second picture, I believe they guy in the bottom right is one of the brothers I am querying about. Is that correct?

Dondadda,

Was Mohan the older brother, a small built guy who was a prolific batsman. The Mohan I remember made several centuries in the Scarborough League over the years.

GTS...

The older brother was Angad. Mohan was with the Scarborough League.
