  • Most students come from the West Bank Demerara (WBD) and West Coast Demerara (WCD). A few are from the East Bank Demerara (EBD) and Georgetown
  • The school operates a private schoolbus service between its location in Cornelia Ida and both Vreed-en-Hoop and Parika. The fares are the same as on public bus services.
  • Teaching philosophy - All knowledge is already inherent in the individual soul. Real learning, with the student as the focus, consists of actualising the potentiality latent in the student. With this in mind SVN has embarked on a philosophy of education that is concerned with the overall development and transformation of the student. While academic brilliance is encouraged we also foster the eternal and universal human values of compassion, fearlessness, truth, forgiveness, and non-injury. The school's philosophy is encapsulated in its motto the ancient Vedic injunction – satyam vada dharmam cara svadhyaya pravacanabhyam na pramaditavyam: Speak the truth. Practice righteousness. Do not neglect studying and teaching. At SVN we are convinced that all education must eventually engender in the individual a profound awareness of one's social responsibility. This must lead to a commitment to dedicate oneself to the development of the larger community.
  • Why a Hindu School? The school was envisioned by Swami Aksharananda of Guyana who is of the view that the country's education system, a legacy of our colonial past, is severely limited in that while it emphasizes Western and Judeo-Christian values, it de-emphasizes the role of the traditional Indian culture inherited by the Indian child. We believe that because we live in a society characterized by cultural and religious diversity, the school education must reflect this diversity in its national curriculum. SVN seeks to remedy this imbalance with an appropriate cultural input in the school's standard Caribbean high school curriculum.
  • Non-profit and non-govermental - SVN is a non-profit, non-governmental institution and a moderate fee is charged to students only to take care of administrative and maintenance expenses.

How come GT and WC did so well, but Essequibo and Berbice did poorly.

It seems private schools are better than public ones, which says a lot about the poor public education system in GY.

But I do know some public school teachers are very proud how nice they look in their uniform. The press and hang dem up nice every day.

One teacha even tie she Mama apron pan she neck, so as not to mess up she nice uniform during lunch. She did not kay who laugh at she, as lang as she uniform nice.

But dem rass need to pay more attention to dem students and less on personal business and who they want to marry, during school hours.

Maybe not to blame dem, when they have to wait two months for salary.

Was this a Priya thing ? She look nice too wid de photo-shoot, but maybe dum like rass, like some teacha.

Two months into the new government, you are full of hot air...What prevented the PPP for doing the same thing, during  the past 23 years ?
