Swami Aksharananda, principal and founder of the Saraswati Secondary School in Guyana,  has invited Julius Nathoo of Canada to receive a plaque in honour of his outstanding contribution to education on the West Coast of  Demerara.  Mr. Nathoo will also deliver an address to the graduating students of the school and their parents on the "transformative power of education."

The event is scheduled for October 12, 2014.

Julius Nathoo who resides in Canada with his wife, Celina (Rawana) Nathoo was the founder/principal of Saraswat High School at De Kinderen, West Coast Demerara. Former students of the school hold leadership positions in all walks of life in several countries of the world notably in the United States, Canada and Great Britain. Many will be attending the ceremonies in Guyana.

While he was principal of Saraswat High School Julius Nathoo completed a Bachelor of Arts degree by private study from the University of London, England and two years later he obtained his Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the University of Guyana.  

In 1970 Julius Nathoo emigrated to Canada with his wife and two children and he and his wife promptly continued their studies at the University of Western Ontario where he obtained a Master of Arts in English while his wife obtained a Masters degree in Education. They both obtained teaching positions in Canada and were able to retire many years ago.

Julius Nathoo also holds a Barrister-at-Law degree from London England, and after his retirement from teaching  was appointed Chair of a Federal Appellate Tribunal in Canada for nine years and is presently Chair of the Fitness to Practice Committee of the Ontario College of Psycotherapists. Mr. Nathoo was the past president of that College.

It is not yet known whether his two daughters, both school principals in Ontario, will be accompanying their parents to Guyana.
