Russia Holds Talks With Guyana on Supplying Defense Equipment

Military & Intelligence

According to Rosoboronexport, corporation has held talks on supplying Russian defense systems to the Co-operative Republic of Guyana with the country's leadership.

EURONAVAL 2014, 24th International Naval Defence and Maritime Exhibition. Day Two.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Russian state arms exporter Rosoboronexport has held talks on supplying Russian defense systems to the Co-operative Republic of Guyana with the country's leadership, the corporation said Friday.

"Talks between the Rosoboronexport delegation, headed by deputy chief executive Sergei Goreslavsky, and the political and military leadership of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana were held in Georgetown with the aim of establishing and developing contacts in the area of military and technical cooperation," the corporation said in a statement.

The Russian delegation met Prime Minister and First Vice President Moses Nagamootoo, Second Vice President and Minister of Security Khemraj Ramjattan, Guyana Defence Force Chief of Staff Mark Phillips and Assistant Commissioner of Police David Ramnarine, according to the statement.

The Caribbean country has confirmed its interest in cooperation and the sides developed a cooperation roadmap, Rosoboronexport said, adding that it was ready to start implementing projects to modernize and reequip Guyana's armed forces.

Rosoboronexport views Guyana's market as a launching pad into the Caribbean defense equipment market, Goreslavsky was quoted as saying in the statement.

Rosoboronexport is responsible for over 85 percent of Russian arms and military technology export, according to the Rostec state technologies corporation.

This reminds me of William Randolph Hearst in 1897.

"Though the Cuban insurrection against their Spanish rulers was stagnating, Hearst continued to send many of his high-profile writers and illustrators to the Cuba in hopes of capturing a great story.  Among Hearst’s employees was the famed illustrator Frederic Remington.  In 1897, Remington became very bored by the lack of anything newsworthy in Cuba and cabled to Hearst, “Everything quiet.  There is no trouble here.  There will be no war.  Wish to return.”  In response to Remington’s message, Hearst reportedly replied, “Please remain.  You furnish the pictures and I’ll furnish the war.”

Less than three weeks later, the American ship USS Maine exploded in Havana Harbor.  The cause of the explosion that claimed 274 lives remains a mystery.  Theories for its destruction include that the ship detonated an external mine, that it was caused by an undetected internal coal fire, that it was attacked by the Spanish, and even that it was intentionally attacked by American forces eager to have the United States enter a war with Spain."

Russia is now at a unique vantage point in this conflict and they are using it to exercise influence and to shut out the US!  They were one of the powers in the League of Nations who voted the current borders into International law.

Today they have this special relations with Venezuela, who don't recognize that vote and we have the PNC who is cozy with the USA.  The Russians are in a position to play the role of mediator.  I believe they must have this in mind!

as per usual, you are a braying moron!

the Russians are anticipating the inevitable post-Chavista Venezuela aligned strongly with the US

they are being naive and hopeful regarding a Guyana handling lil oil money from their 'contested' offshore oil patch

Granger and the Coalition would be well advised to stay far from Putin and Rosoboronexport

i am at a loss to see how this cavorting by the Govt's security people with Russian arms merchants helps Guyana in ANY freakin way

leave that stupidness to the ignar, larcenous, neo-communist, drug-trafficking PPP!
