Baseman it is quite evident that the PPP enjoyed significant Amerindian support.  In fact they got 5k more votes from the interior that they did in 2011.  That is where the 49.3% comes from.

Folks need to stop fooling themselves that this election wasn't as tribal as they were in the past.  APNU AFC needs to woo the mainly Indian 50% who didn't vote for them, as well as to focus more on the interior, and its challenges.  They will of course have to work with their mainly African/mixed base to assist them to improve their living standards as well.

So the coalition gov't will have lots to do, and many different audiences to placate.

I have asked the question to many about how the mixed population increased 70% between 1991 and have yet to receive an answer.  So I stick by more thesis that most of this comes from increased miscegenation, which suggests that if 40% of all Guyanese are below voting age, maybe as many as 60% of mixed Guyanese are.

So we are left with a voting age population which is more Indian and African than the population at large.

Of course by 2020 these mixed folks will be at voting age, and by then the Brazilian population might also be large and entrenched enough to also have impact. All bets are off as to what impact this will have, but what I do now is that a reliance on a tribal vote will be a very risky proposition for both the PPP and APNU.  The latter seems to know this.  Maybe the PPP one day will.

If history is any guide parties which remain in power for too long get arrogant and corrupt, so APNU AFC aren't going to be in power for 40 years.

We had "28" years and we had "23" years.  It didn't end up too good in either case.  Let us be happy with 10-15 years and hope that the PPP has changed itself in the interim. By then Jagdeo will still be mumbling "cheated not defeated" in some mental asylum, so the PPP will have new leadership.

Ramotar made a fatal mistake when he made Rohee the secretary of PPP party.

This point needs to be repeated to some coalition supporters who seem to think that there was whole sale acceptance of the APNU AFC government.

To put this in perspective.  In 2011 APNU AFC received 12,600 votes in Region 10 and 3,300 in Region 7.  This year the votes increased to 16,800 and 4,600.  An increase of 5,500.  This is MORE than the overall margin of victory. 

Think of this.  If 1,000 fewer people showed up to vote in Region 10 the PPP would have won.  The turnout in Region 10 was at RECORD LEVELS, even though the population has shrunk.

This was a very close and verify polarized election!  APNU AFC will need to repair the damage that the PPP created with its extremely racist campaign.

Definitely.  He reduced the PPP into a laughing stock and only the most vile campaign aimed at creating massive panic among Indians, combined with wholesale vote buying in the interior enabled the PPP to come close to winning.

The Amerindian vote has gone, unless APNU AFC treat them poorly.

* This is what we all know---the 50.3% of the Guyana electorate who voted for the APNU/AFC coalition have very HIGH EXPECTATIONS for that party.

The elections results after 1964 and before 1992 were all fraud results, as noted numerous times by the renown international agencies.

It is quite possible that the elections in early 1970's, had it not been for the mass rigging by the PNC, the PPP would have won the elections.

I am not sure what separate identity the AFC will be able to claim. Its obvious that Granger is going to run a tight ship.

I did not under estimate the AFC.  You did. Partnership with the AFC allowed APNU to market itself as being part of a multi racial entity, this being what many Guyanese yearn for.  It worked, even if only barely, with a scant 4,500 margin.

The AFC made a sacrifice and that was to forego its identity as a separate party to join a coalition to enhance its chance of governing.  Well the AFC is now a more powerful version on the WPA and others.  It is part of the APNU coalition, which will be dominated by the PNC.  It is obvious that Granger will run a tight, and hopefully, very disciplined ship. 

If APNU fails how can the AFC claim that it wasn't their fault when they were a major part of the coalition with 30% of the cabinet (not 40%, at least not yet)?

If APNU turns out to be an African mono racial regime which excludes Indians, you think that the AFC could then go into Indian villages and attempt to get their support?

So in 2020 what will the AFC bring to the table that is unique? 

* Take a close look at that photo How many Indians do you see in Granger's cabinet ?
