Pandit Sam was a good man! I know his family well. His late brother Paul Ohara was a writer and radio personality and his youngest brother Uncle Cyril(CP) lived in Lusignan and used to make Christmas trees. Nice people.

There is another outstanding Guyanese---he has a street named after him in Guyana---the SHIV CHANDERPAUL DRIVE!

TIDBITS:

Shiv Chanderpaul is the first Guyanese in history to score 10,000 runs in test cricket---in 142 tests to date Shiv has scored 10,290 runs at an average of 50.44 with 25 hundreds and 61 fifties. He is now respected across the cricket world as a great West Indies batsman, and only the great Brian Lara has scored more runs than Shiv in both tests and onedayers.

GIVE PRAISE TO ANOTHER OUTSTANDING GUYANESE---SHIV CHANDERPAUL

I agree with this list also but dictator Burnham was in no way outstanding. He deserves to be in the world's top ten dictators list.

Indeed three outstanding Guyanese  hailed from Port Mourant, Berbice....I had the honour of knowing them  personally along with Basil Butcher,John Trim and Joe Soloman... Rohan's middle name is BHOLALALL and not  " Babulall "....BTW Dr.Jagan was also a cricketer in his own right having played for the ROYAL EXILES when he was a student in the USA in the late 1930's to early 1940's....

Alvin and Rohan are both residing in the UK.....

Leslie Amsterdam also comes to mind.

ANOTHER OUTSTANDING GUYANESE

quote:
Professor Charles Denbow epitomised the integrity, character and personality that all medical professionals and Jamaicans, in general, should seek to emulate. He was brilliant, but humble.

To the students he taught from the many classes of the University of the West Indies' medical school, he was an icon, able to address us all (from memory) by our full names even years after he had taught us. He had the expert gift of imparting the very complex aspects of cardiology, using very simple concepts for his students to comprehend.

Anyone knew Professor Denbow ? He was a Guyana scholar---huge Shiv Chanderpaul fan--outstanding Guyanese.

It looks like you have been around the bend a few times bro.

Good for you. It must have been a privilege meeting those 3 remarkable Port Maurant and Guyanese sons.

I wonder why the mention of "Jamaicans in General"?

I also wonder if he's related to Enid Denbow.

This man was probably the best heart surgeon Guyana ever produced.  He was so good that he was a consultant at the Mayo Clinic.  When he was a student at Queens College he was the only student in his class that would study every day Sunday to Sunday 8 hours a day.  He was not that humble he drove a Mercedez Benz.

Kanhai is a cricket superstar.  It is very hard to meet him.  Kanhai was something.  I don't think he may have been a fan of the PPP.
