It is true that sometimes better doors open when some close. No doubt cutting cane is a hard thankless job but some are not capable of making transitions to other occupations. I would be lying if I say that life was ever hard for me but I would also be lying if I say that I did not value, cherish and made proper use of the gifts I was given. I see people working on the road in the sun and feel sorry for them. So I can understand wanting a better occupation for the cane cutters. I don’t think the PNC led Coalition cared about the cane cutters though. It is shameless that while they caused those cane cutters to go hungry and destitute, they lavish themselves with $900k lunches.

This is not the PNC's fault alone. That crook jagdeo refused  the bid of an Indian company with experience building a sugar plant for a Chinese company with no experience simply because he can skim more. And the Indian company bid some 25 million less. He was responsible for the decline of sugar and the PPP claims of resurrecting this industry rings hollow. The PNC could not resurrect the dead.

Banna, that’s so simplified and dismissive!  When people lose their livelihood in such clusters, the entire local economy goes onto a shoestring budget!  Do you know many smaller non-sugar farmers also ended up destitute because of lost of income from Sugar workers, who themselves were forced into subsistence farming to stave off starvation?  Many more established farmers began shipping produce to GT and other places as local demand dried up!

You make these simplified remarks without thinking through!  People depend on others to survive!  That’s how economy works!  The tooth fairy does not appear and make things work!

I have some agreement here! The Sugar workers was also screwed over by the PPP!  Never understood why they doubled down so hard on sugar.  And yes, the Indian bid was competitive and the type of factory was better suited for Guyana!

I don't know the details regarding the Skeldon factory but maybe the Indian company only offered the building while the Chinese company also provided the funding. Can't build a factory without funding.

And regarding resurrection, didn't the PPP resurrect Guyana from the dead?

After coming to power in 2015, the mostly led PNC Coalition pretty much demonstrated that they didn't give a shit for anyone in Guyana not part of their cabal.

Read an article in 2012 how businesses around the Quicken Loans Arena dried up after LeBron left the Cavaliers to play for the Heat. That was the effect of only one man (albeit a huge athlete of the decade man) on an entire business community so I agree it is dismissive to simplify the effect of the laid off cane cutters on their business community.

You may have a point on funding however, in the case, the EU had paid a chunk to help with transition!  So funding was there.

I am not about this ethnic blame game and separating one or the other out for the combined failure of political parties governed bi nincompoops with no experience, ethics or will to change.

After burnham, international lenders opened up their coffers. Hoyte was experiencing 5 percent growth even with PNC party hacks still in office. The same benefaction of international community largess continued into the PPP era where the money flowed and a multiplier effect boost local productive capacity.

What defines the PPP failure is their rigorous adherence to the insular communist creed of party hegemony. They remained faithful to democratic centralism, refused to articulate constitutional change that would decentralize authority and meliorate our ethnic squabbles. Instead they sought to enrich kith and kin, was opaque in financial dealings and institutionalized ethnic nepotism and patronage for work.

They had 23 years to give us a better chance to forge a community with combined nationalism but instead practiced racism and maximized a national kleptocracy as rule.   As much as burnham they are responsible for our total political and economic collapse. Note, not one of our 10 government controlled industries ever succeeded economically and all because the corruptiocrats in the PPP and now the PNC saw to it that race matters and graft options mirror every development strategy.

The irony is that Jagdeo, the crook, is still iconized. Granger who is plainly insipidly uncreative and as charismatic as a toad and who hardly had the chance to do much damage is being pilloried. And yes, he is no differnt leader and offer us no chance to be a better place but lets be fair, he has not done any great damage yet. Jagdeo is the one who set the conditions for the ethnic distrust and institutional destruction and corruption to come

The current administration under Granger has done a lot of damage regarding inter-ethnic trust!  This must be the first time in Guyana's political history where a group of PPP defectors joined forces with a PNC dominated group and convinced their flock to come along!

And then what did they get in return, back-stabbed, which gave rise to the Charrandass defection!

trust was never there. It was for the previous administration to build the institutional fences against ethnic prejudices and prevent it from dominating the political space. Instead the PPP maximized it by corrupt practices and formalizing nepotism as the operand paradigm in a supposed democracy. The PNC is simply capitalizing on their work.

I disagree. Even before Jagdeo ascended the throne, Hoyte was involved in his mo fiah slo fiah terrorist campaign. The PPP did not have 23 years to correct all the ills of Guyana. Their ability was strongly hampered by Hoyte’s mo fiah so fiah terrorist campaign, the PNC Buxton Freedom Fighters and then the APNU and AFC stymying everything after the 2011 elections.

The PNC is still more at fault. Look how Singh overturned an entire elections to help sheh mattie PNC. That crippled J Jagan’s government. Now she singing the opposite tune to keep sheh mattie PNC in government. The PPP supporters would have been slaughtered if the PPP had tried either of those shits.

I guess I didn't give you a chance to cuss out Jagdeo more for all of Guyana's miseries!!  Much to your disappointment!!

You are not authoritative to "give" anyone anything. The reality is you speak to opinions as opposed to analysis and when asked to answer you duck, fumble and dodge. I don't mind. You are what you are.

I am not here to speak to willful ignorance. You are merely a fulcrum to catapult ideas into the ether where receptive and perceptive minds can benefit from them and learn. You and Ugli have achieved the peak of your possible.

Banna, guh back and cuss Jagdeo for all of Guyana's miseries!  Or go huddle with Shuman!!

We all have opinions based of where we come from and what we believe!

You are no different!  The fact that you write loooong epistles to single sentences does not make you smarter or more knowledgeable!  Quite the opposite actually!

To the contrary; I do not blame him for Guyana's miseries. I blame him for the easy strategy of capitalizing on our acute ethnic suspicions to formalize corruption and nepotism to a high art.  The rest of your post represents you grasping for oxygen when reality knock the senses out of you. Your impoverished brain has no place else to go.

You do blame him for Guyana's miseries!!  You posts sheer crap....nuff nuff crap, but sheer crap anyway!

BTW, are you still going with Shuman??

I blame him for shamelessly practicing industrial scale thievery on the Guyanese people. He has no moral right to be any where near a position of authority. Were we not operating under burnham's constitution which shields crooks in office he ought to be presently housed in a musty cell in one of our local jails for his corruption.
