An estimated ten thousand Lindeners decked in red, black and gold jerseys bearing the People's Progressive Party/ Civic slogans and carrying the party's flag flooded Burnham drive at Wismar last evening as the ruling party took its campaign to the mining town.

Presidential Candidate Donald Ramotar in outlining his developmental plans for linden and Region 10, outlines plans for the bauxite industry in which he promised over 1000 new jobs, infrastructure and his vision to make the mining town one of the country's main economic hubs. Ramotar also named incumbent Samuel hinds as his running mate for the 2011 polls.

“Tonight, I am telling you that I have chosen a man to run with me as my Prime Ministerial Candidate,He is a man who has shown tremendous intelligence [and] a capacity for hard work. He has shown dedication. He has shown that he is ready and he has indicated his desire to continue to work hard on behalf of the people of this country. He is a man from linden. He is our well-known and beloved comrade Samuel Archibald Hinds,” Romatar said.

Ramotar said that Hinds has given yeoman service to Guyana and that he still has the energy and desire and the will to continue to serve Guyana.

But quickly turning his attention to his plans for Region Ten should he become president after the November 2011 elections, Ramotar said he will negotiate with, encourage and press the two bauxite companies that operate in Guyana to expand their production and to develop new products that will see greater value-added.

The PPP/C Presidential candidate said he will create at least 1000 new jobs in the industry. However pushing the bauxite industry forward is not the only plan Ramotar has for linden and noted that he sees region ten as pivotal to the development of Guyana.

Apart from the increase in production and the new products in the bauxite industry, imagine what linden and region 10 will look like when we connect the road from linden to Lethem, when that becomes a main corridor for our international trade, when that becomes linked to a deep water Harbour

RAMOTAR also spoke of the new Fibre optic cable being landed from Brazil and will pass through linden, which he believes will bring greater economic opportunities for the mining town. He said that with the Amaila Hydro project coming to fruition, the already subsidized cost of electricity to Lindeners could be further reduced, while creating more opportunities for industries

The time is not very far off when we will not be exporting merely bauxite from Guyana. The possibility is coming for us to export alumina and Aluminium from this country. Imagine how your life will change when all of these things begin to come on stream,” he said. “You will have the opportunity of earning much more by providing more and more services to the people of our country,”

Ramotar reminded that the PPP/C governments over the past 19 years have made tremendous developmental changes to Guyana not only in terms of infrastructure, but being able to change the social fabric in the country as people are now living in freedom and harmony

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds urged Lindeners to make the right choice come November 28 as he assured of his continued commitment to the people of Guyana. Among the other speakers at the rally were President Bharrat Jagdeo, Foreign Affairs Minister Rodrigues-Birkett, Robeson Benn and Phillip Bynoe.
