The owner of a bakery shop located at Independence Boulevard popularly known as Punt Trench Dam is now nursing a gunshot wound to his right hand after a robbery on Thursday about 22:30h.

Christopher Moonsammy, of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, was reportedly in the bakery when three men entered under the pretext of purchasing bread. Within seconds of ordering the bread, one of the men pulled out a firearm and held the businessman at gunpoint.

The three bandits then demanded that the man hand over the money made from sales for the day, but he reportedly told them that he did not have the money at the shop. Two of the men then ransacked the bakery and found a quantity of cash.

Moonsammy reportedly put up a fight with the lone gunman during which he was shot to his right hand. After the gunshot went off, the men made good their escape. Persons in close proximity of the bakery ran to render assistance. Moonsammy was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was treated and was subsequently discharged.

The Police have since visited the scene and have launched an investigation into the incident.

Only on Tuesday, 39-year-old Angela Hussain of Lot 62 Palmyra Number Two Village, East Canje was shot in the head when five heavily-armed men entered her Palmyra  grocery store as she was about to close for the day. It was reported that the five men entered the premises about 19:30h and ordered the woman to hand over the money she made during the day.

Hussain, out of fear for herself and her daughters who were at home, handed over the money, but the bandits insisted that she had more money in the house.

She maintained that she did not have more money at home, but the men proceeded to ransack the premises and came up empty-handed.

In retaliation, one of the men discharged a round hitting the woman in her head.  She is currently hospitalised. Guyana Times understands that investigators have several leads and are working hard to make an arrest in connection with the incident
