President Donald Ramotar on Monday paid his first official visit to the headquarters of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington DC, since being elected to office.

The Guyanese President took advantage of the opportunity to register his Government's strong appreciation of the work being done by the Bank under President Moreno's leadership to support economic and social development in Guyana and the Caribbean. He noted that the Bank has been a responsive partner to its borrowing member countries, including importantly, its smallest member countries such as those in the Caribbean, who feel that that they have a voice and a supportive partner in this important hemispheric institution.

The President also discussed current areas of interest, including the Amaila Falls hydropower project, and emphasised the importance of the project to Guyana's long-term development agenda. He thanked the Bank for the work being done with the aim of ensuring that this project is successfully implemented.

President Ramotar was accompanied on his visit to the Bank by Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh, Foreign Affairs Minister Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, and Guyana's Ambassador to the United States of America Bayney Karran.
