Preparation for GCB female Inter County tourney commences in Demerara

Female cricketers in Demerara have commenced preparation for the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board Senior Female Inter County 50-over tournament.

The players were scheduled to participate in a 50-over trial match yesterday at the Everest Cricket Club, but due to the inclement weather they had to settle for indoor practice at the Chetram Singh Centre of Excellence, La Bonne Intention.

Speaking with Kaieteur Sport after the practice session, all-rounder Haseena Mohamed said that while the session went well, there are still lots of work to be done, but it’s good to see the players gelling nicely.

“Most of the players here haven’t been able to do much training due to the inclement weather, so we have to put in a lot of work ahead of the inter-county tournament,” she posited.

She said that the new faces in the team have shown the commitment which is good for their development.

National player Latoya Smith said she was disappointed with the turn out for the first session. “We were expecting a much larger turnout, nevertheless the session went ahead as planned and the players have shown the commitment”, she noted.

She stated that that are hoping for some turf practice so they can be better prepared for the tournament. Sessions continue at 13:00hrs today at the said venue. (Zaheer Mohamed)
