Sachin, you're a brave man. I salute you.

Indeed, a vote for the AFC or the PNC is better than a vote for the utterly corrupt PPP.

Let's tell the PPP apologists that bluntly and straightforwardly.

let me get this; the PPP is not organizing their campaign around what are bread and butter issues and their capacity to provide that. They are centering their campaign on the boogieman that is Granger!

I think you need to be schooled since you are here doing serious to the PPP's brand ( at least the one the want the public to see) . You do need to grasp that the very buttons you push will be the ones the PPP will have to defend against. They may be doing exactly as you said they are doing but they do not want that advertized as overt strategy.

Correct Bhai.

The People of Berbice must know who is a PPP and who is a PNC supporter. For now, we know for sure that the AFC in Berbice is an arm of the PNC.

The PYO feedback is one hundred percent accurate. The AFC will become baigan choka.

We are now seeing their true colours. It is never too late, in fact it happened right on time.

You standing on your own is a laugh. You are a PPP supplicant. I on the other hand disagree with much of the PNC strategy. I think they need to hire a good PR person and manage their messaging and also to tweak their policies. It is also, like the PPP, too much of a "great man" show. One does not want great men or chosen elders or saints or gurus. One wants competent and fair leaders who are open to advice and counsel from specialists in their fields. In short one needs a deliberative leader and not an autocrat.

I do not support the PNC. I see them of value in mediating the damage to our society by a corrupt cabal of autocrats in the PPP. I do not ever want a majority party in office in the state. I need the status quo to be balanced by a third party where that party has to be coerced to work with any of the major ones. Our constitution is not right for a majority party. It will always end up as crooked as the PPP has become.

PPP propaganda machinery  has gone into overdrive

August 14, 2009 | By | Filed Under Letters

Dear Editor, We have noticed that the PPP propaganda machinery has gone into overdrive on a number of fronts. Recent events suggest that part of the PPP’s response strategy is to link the AFC with the PNC in the minds of PPP supporters. The reason for this is simple. The PPP is desperately trying to rally its base the only way it knows how – that is threatening them with the spectre of the PNC in power.  This strategy has been the faithful hunting dog of the PPP for ages, used to rally the base in the face of exposures on corruption (many scams) and incompetence (such as the floods). The fly in the ointment this time around is the existence of the AFC. Previously the PPP could always tell its supporters “we bad, but they ‘wuss’, and if is not we, is them”.  The contest then was one between the PPP and PNC, there being no AFC at that point. Now that there is such a Party, which by virtue of its recent formation cannot be associated with the machinations of the PPP and PNC of the 2002-2006 sordid era, the PPP wants its supporters to see it as a part of the PNC. This then is the reason for the recent onslaught by Mr. Ramotar and Dr. Luncheon, together with Ms. Gail Texiera (whom we should recall held the portfolio of Home Affairs Minister for a subset of the period under examination).  Also joining the fray is the Honourable Mr. Robert Persaud, Dr. Frank Anthony and the Indian Arrival Committee.  All of these (and presumably more to come) have been bleating a well-worn refrain trying to link the AFC to the PNC. Now is an opportune time to remind the nation, and PPP supporters especially, that prior to the 2006 election, the PPP and the PNC collaborated to have GECOM pay scrutineers on behalf of the PPP and the “combined opposition parties contestingâ€Ķ” both well-knowing that the rest of the opposition would never see a blind cent (which of course it did not). Be reminded also that before the ink was dry on the election results, the PPP and the PNC collaborated to support each other to the exclusion of the AFC on the Regional Democratic Councils. These PPP supporters should not forget also that during the last episode of continuous registration, the PPP and PNC were in cahoots to split up the 100 million in scrutineers’ funds from GECOM to the exclusion of the AFC. Perhaps the most telling to date, is the collaboration between the PPP and the PNC to pass the obscene and undemocratic recall legislation which has as its aim, cracking the whip of party discipline over Parliamentarians instead of allowing them to represent the people according to the force of their conscience. The PPP’s primary concern is with staying in power and in that regard, their best asset is a PNC strong enough to be held out over PPP supporters as an instrument of fear, but weak enough to be electorally defeated every time. This is behind the PPP’s strategy of deprecating the AFC through the device of collaboration with the PNC in the eyes of its supporters. We of the AFC wish to assure the Guyanese public that our position on any particular issue is based on principle and integrity. Therefore, on those occasions when our position may be aligned with that of the PNC, it is because of the merits of the particular issue.  What distinguishes the AFC is that we will not only condemn, but actively seek remedies as well. Hence our progressive stance at a joint Opposition Parties’ press conference. With respect to the information coming out of the Simels and Khan trials in the US, given the implication of high officials of the Cabinet, the Police Force, the GDF and other Government agencies, we believe that no local commission of inquiry is feasible.  This is why we have called for an international inquiry. Such an inquiry must be empowered to examine all links by political parties (including those allegedly of the PNC’s) with criminal elements and let the chips fall where they may. This inquiry must be done with a broad mandate and an expansive set of references in an effort to bring finality to this dark chapter of our history.  It must be done so that our future generations will learn not to make the same mistakes. The PPP and President Jagdeo must not commit to an inquiry which will only serve the PPP’s purpose of invoking anger in the minds of their supporters that it was Afro-Guyanese who were solely responsible. The public has a right to know why nothing substantial was done to alleviate the security dilemma in the 10 years prior to 2002.  Important also, is why little has changed in the seven years since. In a future letter we will examine the failure to reform the security forces. Gerhard Ramsaroop

Embattled AFC Chairman Nigel Hughes’ credibility takes another beating

- as he clutches Harding matter in bid to extricate himself from heat, public outrage over his alleged shady business
- PPP again calls for his resignation

Friday, 14 February 2014, Source

FACED with increasing public outrage over his alleged involvement in a property scam, the embattled Chairman of the Alliance For Change (AFC), Nigel Hughes is trying to extricate himself from the heat he is now confronted with by clutching to the Colwyn Harding matter.

Nigel Hughes

Nigel Hughes

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP), in a statement yesterday, said it has observed that since the public revelation of the court action brought against him by the owner of Mae’s school, Nigel Hughes has been dodging the media and avoiding public appearances until Wednesday (two days ago) when he suddenly surfaced to announce a controversial ‘finding’ in an external medical examination on Harding.

The PPP said “his ramblings on the Harding matter further brings his credibility into serious questioning; especially coming days after the Police Complaints Authority reported there was no evidence of sodomy in the matter”.

The AFC Chairman is attempting to reinvent himself as the ‘good guy’ by clutching to this matter which has already been publicly pronounced on and is being dealt with at the level of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

“In one of the most profoundly astonishing and self-serving comments of recent, the AFC Leader Khemraj Ramjattan publicly down-play the plight of over 300 students whose education is at risk because of the ethical misconduct of Hughes. Ramjattan comment was interrupted to suggest his party has not considered this matter to be important much less to be considered,” the PPP stated.

“The public is aware of the numerous scandals of corruption, lack of transparency, lack of accountability, unethical conduct and other improprieties implicating the leadership of that small political party,” the PPP added.

It alluded to the “ongoing mass migration of members from the AFC” which continues to negatively impact that party’s existence. The PPP noted that several of the corruption scandals levelled against the AFC leadership came from among its membership as well who observed the trend of a pervasive disregard for principles of transparency and accountability by that party leadership.

The striking irony is that while the AFC lectures Guyanese on the need for transparency and accountability as a country, its own house from deep within is infested with corruption. The PPP condemns the double-standards being exhibited by the AFC and its cronies. “The AFC is in no position to lecture any stakeholder in Guyana about rooting out corruption when it is unable to do the same within its rank and file,” the party argued.

The PPP said it remains concerned over the future of the students of Mae’s school and increasingly so as they prepare to write CSEC examinations shortly.

The PPP also alluded to the AFC continuing to do nothing about continuous reports against its Chairman’s involvement in various forms of fraudulent activities, misconduct and improprieties.

Apart from this latest allegation that he sold a property to a popular city school despite taking out a mortgage which he failed to pay, and the ongoing litigation on the matter, Hughes was involved in several other scandals. The party recall the allegations of conflict of interest when it was revealed that Hughes and his wife Cathy were in the employ of Sithe Global, the company which developed the Amaila Falls Hydro Project which the AFC rejected.

Hughes was also embroiled in another controversy surrounding his deliberate failure to disclose his relationship with the jury foreman in the Lusignan massacre trial whilst representing one of the accused.

The PPP said it is well advised of Hughes’ links to criminal elements and the underworld. His bare faced representation of their interests in the courts when litigation is brought against them is a well-established fact. The party recalls his involvement in the removal of footage from the gas station where a citizen was gunned down at Buxton.

Again the PPP urges those citizens who may have fallen prey to Hughes’ alleged racketeering acts to lodge a report with the Guyana Police Force which should investigate all allegations keenly. “Our party will never allow any politician to trample on the fundamental rights of ordinary citizens,” the PPP declared.

It said “if the AFC has a shred of decency left it must distance itself from Hughes and rebuke his actions”.

“If the Ramjattan and Nagamootoo driven alliance has any integrity remaining, it must stop dodging the issue surrounding the constant controversies involving Hughes and demand the resignation of their Chairman,” the PPP suggested.

yuji22, you shameless racial corruption-loving PPP toadstool, make up your mind.

Yesterday morning you told me you would fight fire with fire in response to my post.

A few hours later you said you would not engage in a discussion with me because of my "incivility."

You have a history of breaking your own promises. You quickly forget your own words.

Now you're openly slandering me by saying I endorse Nigel Hughes' "behaviour."

Where on this board did I endorse?

You are attributing an action to me in accordance with your deceitful and malicious nature.

Really, you haven't changed, despite your "promises."
