I am still processing what my wife and I witnessed this evening...our AFC activists for months have been telling us of low turnouts at PPP meetings...of heckling and so on...so tonight, we went for ourselves to see...

I am still in shock...never in my political experience from since a child, have I witnessed such a thing...a crowd, larger than those attending the meeting, comprised mostly of sugar workers, assembled some 50 feet away and booed, heckled and shouted down the three PPP speakers - Neil Kumar, Seeraj and Anil Nandlall. The crowd was vocal and fearless...like I said, I am still processing....

Good to hear bhai...I know you would never make up such a story. CHANGE IS COMING!
T
I have been saying this for some time now, the PPP has misjudged how pissed off the population and the man in the street really is at this organization.

A lot of wrong things have been done, a lot of big houses and prados and BMW's while people can barely put food on the table.

The people who just coast into guyana in and out and the ones who have not been here in 25 years like Nehru cannot and will not have an appreciation for the suffering the average man in guyana has to go through to get simple things done.

We are not talking about getting rich we are talking the basics, light, water, food, security and saving to put away money.

Lets not even get into education for our children, children do not get free exercise books in school but we have one minister putting on feminition and yelling loudly that she is not going to apologize for spending this money and that money that is arrogance to the highest extent.

I have also warned many in our party about do not underestimate the AFC, stop throwing stones at them and lets start doing right by the people.

Fire rohee tomorrow.

Gerhard, you the man
D
My wife and I got in to Enterprise around 5:30 PM, and we passed near the meeting area, which was now being set up - in the exact spot we had our AFC meeting a little more than two weeks ago. We then waited near the main road to see who would have been bussed in as our activists have alleged. By 6 PM we did not notice any people being bussed and we went to the meeting area, given that it was supposed to start then.

At the meeting area, there was already a sizeable crowd. Not having thrown caution to the wind, we did not walk with a camera and quietly tried to make our way forward to better hear what was being said. In fact, that was our primary mission, since it is being constantly drawn to our attention that the PPP was uttering untruths about the AFC. And so we wanted to hear this for ourselves. As we got into the thickest part of the crowd, I was recognised and immediate shouts went up, the Key, the Key! Vote change! I was flabbergasted and asked those shouting not to get in to trouble and to give the PPP a chance to be heard. I could not believe I was uttering those words in PPP heartland...

Having made our way forward, not far from the stage area, was when I realised there were two distinct sections of the crowd. The one about 50 feet away to the south that I had just passed through, numbered around 50, and those in the immediate vicinity numbered around 40, including those who came with the speakers. In addition to the vehicles that the speakers came in, there was one mini-bus. About 45 minutes into the meeting another mini-bus turned up, adding about ten more PPP supporters to the 40 persons to the north. By that time the protest section had grown to around 60 persons.

The meeting got underway at 6:15 pm, and the first speaker, Neil Kumar, was heckled and booed and spoke for around ten minutes. Seeraj was also heckled, but not as much. He said that AFC stood for Alliance For Compromise/Confusion and that APNU meant A Parasite, Nasty and Ugly. He too spoke for about ten minutes.

At around 6:30 pm Anil Nandlall came on. He said Ramjattan was a racist, that he would take away jobs and seize lands from Indians if an AFC Gov't comes power, that he did not appreciate the qualified children of cane-cutters and rice farmers having jobs in the PPP Gov't. He also said that Ramjattan said he would shut down the sugar industry. For this he was roundly shouted down, Lie! Lie! In fact, I went into the protest section and asked them if they heard Ramjattan say that when he spoke at our meeting there. The sugar workers were very angry at this untruth. Not wanting to be accused of incitement, I went back to the front. At this time, I realised some of the persons I had earlier counted as PPP supporters were not, because they came up to me and voiced and nodded their disapproval of the PPP.

Nandlall continued his attacks on the AFC, tying Trotman to slow fiah, mo fiah, on the basis that Trotman was a member of the PNC at the time. Of course, he failed to mention that Trotman never took to the streets, and it was Trotman who asked the PNC to apologise for its past. He was booed while saying this. He went on to say the AFC was irresponsible and lacked experience. That only the PPP Gov't is in a position to pronounce on VAT, that the AFC is only making empty promises to reduce it. In effect he was saying that VAT would not be reduced under the PPP. At this point, someone shouted, Abee cyan eat road! Nandlall's speech focused otherwise on the difference in Guyana in 1964 to 1992, and said we have now levelled out, and will rise in the next 5 years, which again drew heckling.

Nandlall spoke for 45 minutes, with the protest crowd growing quiet toward the end - out of boredom my wife surmised. Buoyed by this, Nandlall told them that their silence meant that he was getting through to them, at which the very first set of applause from the PPP section was heard - this was some 10 minutes after the second mini-bus arrived, not having heard the loud protests from since the start. In response, Nandlall got the loudest shouts from the protest group, the PPP must go! We don't want to hear about 28 years! Tell us about the 19! Vote Key! Time for change! Thereafter he wrapped up and the meeting ended at 7:15 pm.

That was quite an experience for my wife and I, and she said had she not been there she would have found it hard to believe, even though she knows I would not have exaggerated. Had we known this would have happened we would have brought our camera. In fact my wife was insisting that we do, but I told her I didn't want to get into anything untoward, that we were there to listen and nothing else. No one in the AFC, including the leadership, knew of our mission tonight.

I just spoke with my cousin in Enterprise; he told me that a few AFC/PNC goons, about fifteen of them were imported in a mini bus. The began by heckling the speakers but after a few minuets the massive crowd of PPP supporters started shouting back with loud laughter and lots of boos for the goons-“5 more years” –never again AFC/PNC rice flour. – We will always remember the missing sugar workers killed in Buxton by the goons. The AFC/PNC goons then hurriedly jumped in their mini van and dashed away in the darkness of the nightâ€Ķ..evidently they went home and started writing lies on the internet.

Okay, Gerhard, point taken.
The PPP organizers chose the wrong set of speakers for Enterprise.
Neil Kumar is not a sugar worker.
Seeraj is not connected to the sugar industry.
Anil Nandlall is not a sugar worker.
Enterprise people want sweet sugar people to address them.
Next time the Party sending Komal Chand and Navin. Then you gon see story.

Gerhard:

Thank you for such great information on the demise of the Kingdom of Kong (Mr Hughes words).

PPP = punishing sugar workers and the AFC will be offering sugar workers a lease of life with ethanol production.

PLUS - AFC WILL BE INCREASING ALL SALARIES INCLUDING SUGAR WORKERS SALARY BY 20%

the AFC will be reducing the PAYE from 33% to 25% and VAT from 16% to 12%.

Gerhard, this message all over the sugar belt and they can bring Komal Chand and all and they will still lose.

The people suffering too much in the Kingdom of Kong and King Kong lives and his henchmen and his political advisor, Mr QUACK QUACKlives its up on taxpayer's money.

I assure you, however, that I'm not losing sleep over Mr/Mrs/Miss Dharry's rudeness, disrespect and mysterious hostility.
In all graciousness, I force myself to believe he/she knows not what he/she says, neither knows he/she an iota of truth about me.
Already, he/she has described me as the most unintelligent poster, a dunce, and an old fool.
Far from being annoyed, I told him/her thanks for the adjectives pinned on me.
By Mr/Mrs/Miss Dharry's past, present and future comments he/she will be judged by my fellow GNI posters and the administrator who I hope is observing everything.
I worry not, nor do I care.

I have no cause to disbelieve Gerhard here. He has nothing to gain by creating a piece of fiction.
So, what happened at Enterprise last night should be a wake-up call to the PPP hierarchy. Something is definitely going awry.
Enterprise was the place I attended my first PYO Congress 41 years ago. Enterprise was the place I attended a PPP Congress too. Enterprise was one of the places where I spoke at a PPP public meeting in the 1980s. Absolutely no heckling there. Mammoth crowd. Big enthusiastic applause for all the PPP speakers, including myself. The only downside is that I didn't get a mala around my neck. Wink
Having regard to Gerhard's report on that appalling meeting last night, the PPP planners and organizers need to get back to the drawing board urgently and win back the affection of traditional PPP supporters in Enterprise.
B
Pick sense from nonsense, you think the AFC has money to bus anyone in anywhere?

Has the AFC been bussing people into any meetings in region 5 and 6 - NO.

So they will bus people in govt vehicles? The only vehicles in Enterprise last night were govt vehicles.

Dave Matrix - lying isnt going to save us. I have been warning of this turn coming our way for a long time, but many on this site play ignorant and they try their best to deny it.

Free chicken and free drinks and partay is going to attract crowds but they will partay up go home and vote against us, mark my words.

Exactly uncle book the problem is Komal, Navin and Moses have no incentives for campaigning for us because Donald just wrote them a letter telling them that their jig is up not to submit their names for MP selection. So what does that tell you?

This is no secret GAWU is not the PPP anymore.
J
Bookman is right. The speakers dispatched to Enterprise are not capable of connecting with the people. GAWU has strong root in Enterprise. Komal Chand's predecessor is from Enterprise. They must be real pissed at the way Komal and Moses are being treated.

The PPP, however, may stir up some racial incident in Bachelor's Adventure next door to incite fear in Enterprise.

Agreed but the people there are smarter than that and they will know that the PPP is up to no good.
J
At the end of the day, Gerhard, you can't change the level of denial the exists within the minds of some PPP supporters about the myth of their greatness and infallibility.

For the record, I was one of the people that Gerhard called and I did hear the clear heckling in the background.

There was no AFC ploy or plot. Indeed, Gerhard had invited me to the meeting originally to accompany Michelle in the car since she insisted that he not go alone. I asked him why he was going alone and he said that while reports coming in from AFC sympathisers were good, he wanted to personally observe what was going on.

I had a prior engagement and so I advised him to at least see if he could get one other AFC person with another vehicle to go up with him. As it was a snap decision, he could not.

I called him to check up on him and that was then he held out the phone and I heard clear heckling and people shouting down the main speakers.

I was at the AFC meeting in Enterprise a few weeks ago and it was precisely the opposite. As I was leaving, an old man came up to me and insisted on telling me that he came primarily because he had heard that there was a plan to disrupt the AFC meeting and he couldn't let that happen to Khemraj - he confessed to me that he was a former PPP supporter who would break up opposition meetings and he related how PNC supporters in a village a few miles away once beat him up and busted his head as he was campaigning for the PPP.

During the AFC meeting, several persons pointed out the PPP agitator who was sent to observe and agitate if it came to that. He spent the entire meeting riding back and forth. As the meeting was closing, they changed tact - several young men in a white car with a megaphone attached to the roof slowly cruised through the dispersing crowd, pointedly asking people "What going on here?"

That intimidation tactic did not work either. What Gerhard saw was the groundswell of sentiment in Indian village that was traditionally supportive of the PPP, but who after 19 years know that their children cannot ever hope to achieve the wealth of people like Nandalall and Kumar.

The person whose relatives supposedly witnessed a coordinated AFC attempt is relating a version of events that is is real as his name on here.

Neil Kumar is doing fairly well he I can assure you no longer rents an apartment and he no longer rides a bicycle nor does he have a green knapsack with him at all times.

While I've yet to check through his record of assets and statement of income at the Integrity Commission, I can assure you that - like George Jefferson and Manzoor Nadir - he finally got a piece of the pie: the PPP motorcycle at least has been traded in for an SUV and the rented apartment has long been abandoned in place of a house, although I forget where.

House slaves and field slaves
Sphere: Related Content

In the days of slavery, dark complexioned slaves were put to work on cotton farms while light skinned slaves were handpicked to work in the "Massa's" house. Sometimes the females were made unofficial concubines to the Master of the house. House slaves enjoyed privileges field slaves did not enjoy such as better living quarters, food, clothing and sometimes education. Field slaves on the other hand had poorer living conditions and were hard worn for all the arduous labour on the field. So if you were an African slave in the Americas at that time, you would have longed for the day when the Master would call you into the house to serve as a house slave. As nice as it would have seemed to become a house slave at the end of the day, a house slave was still considered as much a slave as a field slave.

Why am I writing about slavery? I see an analogy between slavery and employment. Most employee are slaves as long as they remain in employment. You have little or no control over your time and resources. You are paid whatever the Master wants you to earn (the Master in this case being your employer). You are also subject to other masters like the Government, Tax authorities and other bodies that have a claim on your salary whether you like it or not. You temporarily surrender your vision and time to your employer and adopt your employer's vision and time.

Employees that work in good paying jobs such as Oil and Gas, Banking and Telecoms may be considered house slaves as they are better paid while most civil servants may be considered as house slaves. A lot of people dream of working in Oil and Gas companies with the hope of a brighter future. All you are doing is moving from the field to the house albeit still as a slave. You could also argue that senior and executive management staff are house slaves while junior personnel are field slaves. But at the end of the day, they are all slaves.

I know this line of thought seems extreme but it's closer to the truth than you think. An employer can summarily dismiss you without any explanation even after serving for 20 years. That isn't freedom. That's slavery. So what's the alternative to this form of modern day slavery?

Self-employment. The Forbes list of the world's richest men doesn't have any employees because you can never be richer than your employer. Take a look at your CEO today... go on take a look because that's as rich as you will ever be doing that same job. So am I saying, quit your job and start your own business right away? No, but we all need to think about it at some time or the other and have a plan for doing this.

As for me, the countdown has begun.

SJ why is your party still trying to scare Indos? Apparently they now know that rich Indos are more of an enemy to them than are poor Afros.

Washington (CNN) - The one African-American running for the GOP presidential nomination said Wednesday the black community was 'brainwashed' for traditionally siding with liberal politicians.

"African-Americans have been brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view," Cain said on CNN's "The Situation Room" in an interview airing Wednesday between 5-7 p.m. ET. "I have received some of that same vitriol simply because I am running for the Republican nomination as a conservative. So it's just brainwashing and people not being open minded, pure and simple."

Region 6 has 15% of the votes and taht includes New Amsterdam, Region 5 has a few more. So if all the AFC can report is inroads in Berbice and they get maybe 30% of those votes that still means they do poorly if they collapse in regions 3, 4, and 10 where 60% of the votes are.

mitwah, baseman and others. This is where you will lose. Call me a PNCite as you fool yourselves.

Its poor politics to take your core support base for granted and assume their votes. Especially as these arent core as they voted for you ONCE, and you only got 6% of the votes cast at that.

jags the PPP will win region 3, but the victor in region 4 will be the "Voting Is a Waste of Time" party. Even if the PPP wins there a low poll will indicate how much people hate you. And are bored by the PNC and AFC.
FM
Caribj you have some peculiar ways of looking at the data and you also hold on to 2006 as gospel one thing someone posted on another blog site yesterday that was an interesting piece of data is that the AFC in a matter of months garnered the most votes ever in Guyana for a party started i think it was 6 mths or something like that.

That is damn impressive even for those losers. This is why I am telling you do not dismiss anyone not even the PNC or the PPP.

Thats was when the AFC had large and exciting meetings in georgetown. People thought that an AFC in parliament would emerge as a dynamic group who would confront the PPP and continue to galvanize Guyanese to improve things. They ended up being as lazy as Corbin. Now we all know that Corbin was lazy because Jagdeo was giving him soup. What excuse do the 5 AFC MPS have?

Now they seem as fearful to have meetings in G/T as the PNC is. The weay I see it many people in G/T will not vote and some die hard PNC supporters will vote for them.

jags I have seen people who were quite enthusiastic about the AFC last time run around harrassing people to support Granger because he isnt like Corbin.

Now if you think basing facts in 2006 is wrong this is an excellent example of it. A party which suddenly appeared then to great applause, exciting thousands...but now seems to have fizzled and is fast being forgotten in region 4.
FM
I think you are out of touch with the realities on the ground here in GY.

You are depending on anecdotal data and hearsay and casual overview and you are also viewing many of the issues on the ground in GY in a simplistic manner.

Guyanese are not an easy bunch to get to do anything these days. So getting them to come out to big meetings like back in the days when you were a youngster and there was no TV or porn for sale is easier said than done.

You have stated that the AFC is weak in region 4 and maybe region 5 which have over 50% of the votes. How will the AFC do well if people in region 4 have decided that they will not vote?

If you think that getting them to do something is hard try getting them to vote when they think that they have better things to do than vote for the PPP, PNC, or the Afc. Yes standing up in the hot sun waiting.

Whats interesting jags is I am not hearing or seeing anything that suggests to me that I am wrong, except from the party operatives who obviously will want to paint a picture most fvorable to themselves.

You are entitled to your opinion. For a small party, the AFC is making great progress. It does not have the capacity like the PPP that bussed in 40 attendies to the Kitty meetings. People are seeing the bad roads, friends of the PPP getting richer and then there are no jobs. People are seeing through the PPP gift gimmickeries. Your PNC has no structure, no manifesto and hope to get in the back door thru a marriage of odd couples giving themselves a laughable name APNU.

It's the people choice to vote or not to vote.

You said it right. For a SMALL party. One that cant even mount a serious campaign throughout the length and breadth of coastal Guyana so definitely cant get the unwilling out to vote as the PPP will be able to with its Guysuco trucks, threats and sudden goodies.

mitwah you have outlined the very reasons why few will vote.

1. AFC is small so cant win. If they cant campaign how can they convince the public that they have the capacity to govern.

2. PPP has done little except enrich themselves.

3. The PNC is afraid to campaign as they fear how silly they will look in G/T and Linden when no one comes out.

Like I said many Guyanese think all options are bad so they had better spend time going on the road to sell clothes or what ever they must do to eke out a living until that Western Union $$$ comes in.

BTW when you said that only 40 turned out to hear the PPP in G/T you forgot that only 50 came out to hear the AFC, which seems to be now afraid to campaign in that city. Unlike 2006 when thousands poured out to hear them.

First true comment made by you. Even more will refuse to vote than last time.

Be hohest with yourself. That's not such a hard thing to do. You don't know whether to go right or to go left. People like you who can't make up their mind, crash and die everyday on the highways. The last person that I know sat on the fence slipped and his rear end got ripped.

I have been playing along and entertaining your your statements, opinions, or conclusions based on guesswork. I am happy and thankful that 50 people came out and listened to the AFC. These 50 will spread the AFC's message by word of mouth for the AFC. THis is the best and most effective media and influence.

Your conjectures, speculations, divination even though coherent and logical are very entertaining.

The disenchanted people in the diaspora are doing a great job to open up the eyes of their friends and relatives back home. This makes the PPP very nervous.

GR you should have asked me and I would have told you the turn outs are low and the people heckle the speakers and I live in NY . Mitwah most of what teh AFC says is well known to Guyanese. Do you think that Guyanese are so ignorant that they dont know whats been happening for the last 55 years in Guyana? Dont you think that they wouldnt have formed an opinion of Ramjattan, Holder and Trotman over the past 5 years, especially in G/twn the media center?

So why do you think that 50 will tell 60 who will tell 50, and voila a miracle will occur. To many the AFC was a depp disappointment as it let Jagdeo behave in an even more outrageous manner than he did prior to 2006.

They expected more of them as they know Corbin has a silent agreement with jagdeo to behave like a moron, in exchange for a "little raise" as he is old and has no money. But the AFC they expected more.

So all this sudden flurry of activity a few weeks before the election when they spent all their days in Region 6 over the last several months clearly doesnt impress, other wise more would have shown up in ALbouystown.

I recall when GR spoke of a meeting in Albouystwon I told him that teh attendance will be poor. Well it wa seven WORSE than I thought. I expected maybe 100, and 50 showed up. Subtract the AFC personnel and family and you probably had only 30!!! In a veru dence part of Gtwn!!!!!

Mitwah people do not think that the AFC is a factor. They see the PPP as bound to win and they see BOTH opposition partioes as too poorly organized to stop this.

So what has the AFC to say that interests these people? The AFC has to prove that it has the capacity to govern. Thats what it should be doing. Not telling Guyanese about all the ills of the PPP, something that they have known for quite a while.\

You nee dto understand something. Guyanese have three choices.

1. vote race and tradition (PPP/PNC)

2. try a new party (AFC) OR

3. Not vote at all thinking that none of thes eparties will mean one thing in their lives.

Unhappily for you, many, especially in Gtwn and Linden have already decided on 3. The AFC ignored these regions and took for granted these voters. These voters have decided that the AFC is anon factor, PPP victory is certain, and they will just have to figure out a way to survive under another PPP reign, hopefully not more than 2 years if it wins less than 50% of the votes.

You can call me a rcist and a PNCite becaue I dont bark your silly tune. But these are the facts. Unkless the AFC does something quickly polling stations in Gtwn this election will be as empty as they were in 1973. Gtwn people are quite happy not to vote if they see no reason to.

It might also shock you when Corentyne folks either dont vote, or ignore the AFC, as they did your party ROAR. Even though before the 2001 election they told you all nice things to the point where you all actually thought that you would matter.

Fact is that you cant furnish any evidence that I am wrong.

People dont have to do anything. They can just refuse to vote as they refused to vote in 1973 and in 1978.

Continue worrying about me instead of begging your AFC friends to do more in Gtwn and this is exactly what will happen.

If teh AFC has been "outreaching" since 2006 and they can only get 50 people in Gtwn, a city of 200,000 then its even wors etahn I thought.

Now if they think that attendance at meetings doesnt matter than why go to the expense of having them? Clearly this poor attendance does indeed disappoint, despite your attempts to pretend otherwise. I can forgive GR as he is a kid, so idealistic and maybe naive, but you ought to be better than that.

Funny the best you can come up with is "50 will tell 50 about the meeting".

At that rate maybe by 2016 the 450k voters will know.

You ought to focus on why no one outside of the AFC gives it a chance to win, or even make a significant dent.
