DISTRIBUTION of 11,00 solar panels to hinterland communities under the  Low Carbon Development  Strategy (LCDS)  Hinterland Electrification Programme was earlier this week 85% complete and is expected to be finished  by month end.

The Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) project is installing solar home systems in Amerindian households for about 135 Amerindian communities in remote areas altwhere grids are not feasible.

MINISTER of Agriculture, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, has revealed that the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO) is producing exceptionally well since they are now experiencing the first protracted dry season since 2010.

According to the minister, the corporation has recorded a production of 52,000 tonnes of sugar so far for this crop as of the end of last week. He compared this figure with the first crop, which recorded 71,000 tonnes overall.
Dr. Ramsammy said they are hoping that this crop will exceed 160,000 tonnes, which would make it a very successful one.

Fake condolences to the family of this brave young man. He lost his life in the fight against the evil drug scourge that is ravaging our land.

Personally, Gerhard hold the State culpable because of its relationship with the underworld, and the dragging of its feet on Security Sector reform (rejection of the British SSRP) and bringing in the DEA.

When Kari wrote, "you can cry for Guyana" it reminds me that crying is a blight when you don't have a death in your family. Guyana has seen tears and laughter from inception. Guyana tears will dry, and laughter will come again.

AFC calls for probe into textbooks orders

September 20, 2012 | By | Filed Under News          Govt.’s stance tantamount to telling Guyanese to steal

The fallout from Government’s admission that it authorized hundreds of millions of dollars in purchases of photocopied textbooks is continuing.
Yesterday, Alliance For Change (AFC) Parliamentarian and Executive Member, Moses Nagamootoo, called for a probe. He said that it is a clear case of Government openly encouraging Guyanese to steal.

Moses, if the PPP is buying the books at cheaper prices how can you call it stealing? Another inquiry to waste more money?

Based on my technical calculation those panels should be able to produce between 80Watts to 120Watts if the cells are of good quality.

Additional hardware is also required before you'll be able to get 110Volt AC from them if they wish to run small appliances such as a radio.

Paying for forgeries and pirated copies of copyright material does not exempt you from being called a thief. And approved and rubberstamped by the government as well.

Just remember the PPP is doing it with $20B short change on the budget cut.

Then the AFC was right in trimming the fat since the PPP did not need it in the first place.

AFC!!!!

Mitwah

What has the short change got to do with the panels? The money for the panels was already allocated under the previous administration from the development funds. You can't spend the same money twice. So there was no shortfall to fund the project under Ramotar. Don't try to justify false accounting by the PPP.

Mr.T

I never knew that the PPP built the stadium I thought it was the Guyanese taxpayers..boy if some PPP coolie soupies aint' stupid, educated or notis  nuff rambling from these clowns. The day of reckoning is on the way and nuff tears will be shed for the PPP fat cats and dumbassed supporters.

I know you prefer to rub rocks together until you get a fire going BUT you are a Caveman and the Amerindians are a PROGRESSIVE People.

Dude, this is charade. If the people live in villages they need a generator for secure electricity. If the live in remote areas close to the forest canopy then they are screwed. It is commendable that they get these cells but it is not to be touted as hinterland electrification. It is a 50 watt bulb barely lasting the night.

And dumb ass, Amerinds or most people for that matter have did not live in cave. You are one of those stupid people who need a myth to lock into rather than do the hard work to educate yourself.

It's a start in the right direction, and the Amerinds are grateful that the government delivers, not ungrateful like you. Do you have a better idea to facilitate the hinterland with electricity? Eh, rocket scientist?

First, the government cannot give us anything. It is ours to begin with. You head the government because of your predominant numbers and democracy has short changed us with respect to oversight over our own patrimony.

There are many ideas of more substance. In most of the amerind villages, a central solar bank  utilizing the panels as a homogeneous unit are a better source of sustained power supply. Plus we can use the sun and mirrors to drive turbines with the aid of the wind for more permanent solutions. We also have lots of swift moving streams and small hydro can be a solution as well. IF 18 century americans can use the water to industrialize America why cannot we use it to help electrify a few hundred households all occupying some riverain community? I do not have the answers but can imagine them. So can the government rather than waste these cells in individual units to light a bulb and call it electrification.

This is 20 years into a PPP government and "electrification" of amerind homes and villages is giving them a solar panel that is for all intents and purpose useless.

Further, truths do inevitably coincide regardless of the perspective from which they are expressed.
