An East Ruimveldt family is mourning the loss of one of its own who was gunned down execution style. The killing is being described as an ongoing feud between rival clans.

Dead: Sherwyn Barrow

Dead: Sherwyn Barrow

Sherwyne Barrow, 24, received about five bullets to his chest and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital, minutes later. Kaieteur News understands that Barrow was sitting outside a small shop in “Warlock”, East Ruimveldt, when three men walked up and began firing shots at him. According to an eyewitness, so precise and intense was the attack that Barrow never stood a chance. Most people who were in the area when the shooting occurred declined to give much details fearing reprisals from the gunmen. In fact, no one claimed to have seen the killers. A friend of the dead man who took him to the hospital recalled ducking for cover when the gunshots rang out. “I hear multiple gunshots and I run. When it done I come out back I see me friend lying down. When we bring he here dem say he dead,” the friend said. He said that he was unaware that Barrow had any problems with anyone and he was shocked that something like that could occur in broad daylight in a community like Warlock. “If I didn’t run I might’a get knock too because it was wild gunshots,” the friend stated. Another resident claimed that he was in a yard when the shooting started. “When I come out, they just summons me fuh carry he to de hospital. Dem

shots was like pon rapid,” the other resident stated. Police in a press release stated that around 08:55 hours yesterday, Barrow whom they said was 18, was involved in an argument with two men at Warlock, East Ruimveldt, during which he was shot several times to his body. News of his death spread quickly and several of his friends and relatives converged at the hospital. Barrow’s girlfriend, Ashomia Rogers, was more direct with a motive for his killing. She blamed it on some people with whom Barrow had a previous dispute. Kaieteur News understands that Barrow was involved in a shooting incident for which he was charged, a few months ago. She said that she last spoke to Barrow a few minutes before his death. According to Rogers, she was in a minibus when she began receiving several telephone calls informing her of Barrow’s death. She said that she warned him on several occasions to stay away from the area where he was shot “Why Sherwin deh in de scheme when he got enemies?” I even stop talk to he fuh a week straight fuh liming in de scheme,” she lamented. She said that as recent as Tuesday night, she was told to warn Barrow about his movements, since some men were planning to kill him and then flee the country. Rogers revealed that Barrow was recently released from prison after the case of attempted murder against him was dismissed. The virtual complainants had declined to give evidence. “Last year he and some boys had some problem…Dem seh he shoot de boy…and it went in court and so, but de boys dem didn’t turn up in court, so de matter throw out,” Rogers stated. The man who was shot is Kellon Hinds. This newspaper had reported on June 15, 2014 that Hinds, 19, of East La Penitence and another man was seen arguing at “Warlock”. Several persons in the area had tried to quell the argument, but the two men persisted. The suspect then whipped out a handgun and fired two shots in the direction of Hinds, hitting him. Hinds reportedly told investigators that he was robbed of a gold chain, among other items. At the time police were not convinced that Hinds, who was deported from French Guiana, was telling the whole truth about the incident. Barrow was later captured and charged for the shooting. Ashomia Rogers stopped short of blaming Hinds for Barrow’s death but she insisted that “de sh#t got to done.” But another theory circulating is that Barrow’s killing was hatched in the Georgetown prison. A usually reliable source in the Camp Street prison told this newspaper that Barrow had beaten and humiliated another inmate who then threatened to get even with him (Barrow) when released. Both men were released around the same time last month and it is believed that the man made good on his promise. Police questioned several persons in connection with yesterday’s shooting but from all indications they have not yet arrested the real suspect.
