Indians have legitimate concerns as an ethnic group. So do Blacks. No one is advocating addressing one without the other. This Coalition was unprepared and unwilling to address the Indian ethnic security concerns esp. that one about not getting murdered in our beds at 2am.

You all want to start fires and beat up some Indians now because you have lost ?

It doesn't look like the PNC is losing....

What model did Singapore use to resolve their difference ?

Nothing that the PPP will engage in.  They want all power South Africa apartheid style.

The SOPs the Opposition are circulating on social media are indeed accurate but they do not reflect the huge victories in Berbice and the Amerindian regions which the PPP has obtained.

The parties are going through the motions because Guyana is not yet a mature country where the Opposition can concede an election on election night.

This is all consolation candy for Coalition supporters now.

Calling you fence sitting is NONSENSE.

You have engaged in Indo centric nonsense from the beginning with your screams that douglarization means the end of Indians.

You have refused to equate the African security dilemma with that of the Indian.

You have refused to acknowledge that the Indian security dilemma will not be resolved unless the African one was also dealt with.

Then to cap it off you proceed to scream that blacks control Guyana.  Sorry any one who spends one day in Guyana will quickly see that Guyana is INDIAN controlled 100%.  With a bunch of blacks, afraid that they lose their little jobs controlled by Indians.

So don't come to me with your crap.  You just further the suspicion that most black Guyanese have that an Indian is an Indian who can only be Indian, and who only pretends to be Guyanese!

Well deal with the angry blacks now!  Thanks to Kwame they are convinced that the PPP is trying to steal the election so that they can remain in BONDAGE!

Oh yes,  the same black GDF and police who you scream that the PNC controls will be what you all will use to secure power.

PPP starting to rig the vote......

Announcement of preliminary results postponed

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) was Monday night forced to postpone the release of preliminary results of the 2015 General and Regional Elections tonight owing to disturbances in and around the city.

Earlier tonight GECOM Commissioner, Steve Surujbally, and Chief Elections Officer (CEO), Keith Lowenfield, promised to release numbers from polling stations from several regions on the coast at 11:00pm.

At the appointed time however, Surujbally told reporters that the Guyana Police Force has been experiencing difficulties transporting statements of polls and ballot boxes from polling stations.

“There’s an environment that is not conducive to the safe movement of the ballot boxes at this point in time,” a seemingly disappointed Surujbally told a press conference a few minutes ago.

“We are ourselves engaging in maters that should ease the situation but at this point in time the ballot boxes and the statements of polls are not moving the way we thought that they would move,” he continued.

The release of preliminary results has thus been postponed until tomorrow (Tuesday) at a time yet to be determined.

When Demerara Waves passed the St. Sidwells Primary School at around 11:30 there were scores of people stationed outside of the premises. Asked what they were doing there, one woman said “we watching the polls.” She added that they did not intend to leave until the ballot boxes were removed.

A sizeable sum of persons had also congregated in the vicinity of a polling station just off the intersection of Durban and Joseph Pollydore Streets.

Following the press conference a seemingly downbeat Lowenfield noted that while GECOM wanted to keep its promise and release the preliminary results as scheduled, the situation “is beyond the control of GECOM.” He shared that there are reports of many large crowds around, and this has undoubtedly interrupted the smooth flow of the statements of polls.

What happened to the Coalition's "massive" victory of like 65 seats and what not?

Is reality finally starting to hit you in your thick head that the Indians massively rejected the Coalition?

Where is the Coalition's release of the official numbers available to their Elections Commissioners for the nation?

You know why chap? Because the PPP is winning with convincing majorites in the areas it needed to and holding it down in Region 4.

And the reality will soon hit you that blacks think that the PPP is doing all they can to keep them in bondage.  You think their enthusiasm is because they like Granger, or worse yet Moses.

No they wanted to shake off the bondage that they have endured under 22 years of PPP rule, which has grown even more oppressive after Cheddi died.

Well if the PPP wins they will have Guyana.  Packed with angry black people.

So fool yourself that Indians can live in a bubble when blacks are angry with the discrimination which they face on a daily basis from them.

I really sympathize with you and your sentiments but I have to be frank. The formula of asking Indians to abandon government is a non-starter.

And I don't think you truly understand that the kind of Indians needed to even begin to make a credible argument to Indians about a multiethnic coalition's value are those ROAR Indians you seem to hate so much.

This election ran on a ROAR-lite narrative. The PPP was RESCUED by ROAR. The brains of the PPP election campaign was ROAR. And ROAR hates the PPP.

The anger of the black population is fed by the very hostile attacks on them by ROAR/PPP.

So tell me something.  Blacks finally thought that they can win, using the electoral process.  They finally thought that they could form an alliance with some Indians to run a nation that would be fair to all.

If the PPP wins this will be a kick in the teeth.  It will confirm to blacks that an Indian I an Indian who only cares about being an Indian and that blacks cannot expect the smallest iota of fairness from them.

Here is the thing.  A question was asked of Moses whether he was Indian first or Guyanese first.  He said he is defined by his geography not by his ethnicity.  Indians screamed "NO we are Indian and we don't give a damn about Guyana".  This confirms the deepest fears that blacks have of Indians.

So do you think that Indians will be safe in a country where 40% see them as traitors?  If sufficient numbers had joined the alliance it would have shown blacks that not all Indians are bad, but apparently not enough did so...............

I don't know about it being "pure hell" for anyone but poor people in general. There are legions of Indian and Amerindian poor. I would not be shocked to learn that the poor are overwhelmingly Indian and Amerindian.

Race relations is the job of civil society and individuals not governments. That Indians and Blacks choose to support parties opposite is of little import to the business of running Guyana. The fact is that we held elections under the formula outlined in law (ironically written by the Black party) and we have a government. The writ of said government is not any less valid because of where it gets its votes from. We elected the Government of Guyana today. Not the Government of Guyana's Indians.

Blacks are a minority in Guyana and have chosen to back their own party which by sheer numbers cannot win executive power. That is not really a form of discrimination when 30% of the people cannot win 51pc of the votes.

So how secure are Indians now that blacks are very angry and will feel robbed if the results show that the PPP won.  They will NOT care what a bunch of foreigners who don't live in Guyana will say.  They will not care what the ABC nations say as they know full well that those countries are just as racist against black people as the PPP is.

You probably won the election by waging a war against blacks.  Now don't whine if they kick back!

It will not be PNC violence because Granger is a gentleman, but there might be AFC violence when Granger tells Nagamootoo that he didn't do his job and so Granger cannot justify weakening his party when APNU definitely got its people out to vote.

And of course, living in the safety of NYC you could scream your Hindutva wails.  Its the Indians who live in Guyana who have to now deal with a group of very frustrated blacks.  No one know how they will react, and who they will listen to, given that the middle class blacks cannot liberate them from PPPP rule through the ballot box.

I know several Indians in GT and other places who said they voting PNC/AFC.  This is why I raised the caution a few days ago.  The fact that the PPP has a core support does not mean it alone can deliver victory.  The Indians I know said too much corruption and it's time for a break and let the other party have a chance.  The reach out by the PNC to the AFC had an impact here.

The PPP has made NO attempt to foster a sense of national unity and this time ran a campaign based on hatred of blacks.

They then expect blacks to just sit down and accept their oppression.

Let us see if Granger will give the AFC 40 Percent on the opposition benches.

How on earth did Granger allow Moses and Ramjattan to con him when the AFC had no support base left ?

If this model does turn out to be able to dislodge the PPP, then true plural democracy may have finally reached the shores of Guyana.  This means that there is enough swing and no party would be assured victory purely on the basis of race.

The PPP model of governance is to exclude the vast majority of blacks by waging a campaign war against them.  So having alienated this 40% of the population how can they think that they can run the nation.

No country with a large, excluded and alienated minority group can function and this ought to have been obvious by now.

Now go and tell all those black folks, who are spreading videos like wild fire about PPP attempts to disrupt the vote in G/town that they can now trust the PPP to be fair.

And indeed the whole notion of trusting Indians will now be seriously in doubt if the PPP wins.  They will see that an Indian is an Indian who can only be Indian and can never be a Guyanese who can function with others of different ethnicities.

For the future of Guyana let us hope that Shaitaan is wrong about a PPP win. I doubt that because the yapping AFC boys have all gone silent.

The response to the "backlash" you allude to may not be the one you like.

Oh yes.  We know. Using the GDF to kill black people and then screaming that Indians are at risk because there are no Indians there.

Or paying black mercenaries to do so, and then turning a blind eye when they go predatory on defenseless small business people, most being of you know what ethnicity.

The PPP is happy to keep Indos out of the GDF/GPF so that when they use blacks to kill blacks they can claim that it wasn't an act of pure racism.

The thing is that this wouldn't be a healthy society to live in.

Caribj, your thinking will also be in the dumpster.  Yes, there are core supporter on both sides who will vote race.  But there are enough who don't to cause a swing.  If the opposition do prevail and Indians don't experience the old PNC attitude, the overall fear factor will dissipate and we may see a new day.  It is the one factor which causes the greatest uncertainty, not the fact of what the PPP represents.  Even the PNC will have to watch out as they could lose should the GDF chose not to intervene.

tell you what if the PPP wins that swing vote doesn't exist.  APNU AFC were attempting a new form of governance.  The PPP engaged in the most racially divisive campaign since the 60s.  If they win Indians are telling them that this is OK with them.

If most Indians don't want national unity IT IS NOT happening.  So don't fool black people with that.
