People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) executive Aubrey Norton was among a group of persons charged yesterday with participating in an illegal procession and breaching the COVID-19 measures.
Norton along with Timothy McVaugh, Len-nox Bacchus, John Van Veen, Aubrey Crandon, Andre D’Oliviera, Kyle Solomon, Godfrey McDonald, Compton Hope, Keon James, Orel Brummel, and Khepera Ma Khufu were arraigned before Magistrate Rhondel Weever in Georgetown, where they were slapped with two charges each.
The men denied that on September 13, 2021, at the Square of the Revolution, Georgetown, they took part in a procession without the permission of the Chief Officer of Police. They also denied that on the said date and at the same location, they were in public without a face mask in breach of the gazetted COVID-19 measures.
The men were represented by attorney Darren Wade, who made a successful application for them to be released on self-bail. The case was adjourned until October 15, 2021.
Warrants were also issued by the Magistrate for Andrew Watson, Ryan Fraser, Quincy Nichols and Leon Roberts, who were also due to face charges but were absent from court.
The group was charged following a protest at the Square of the Revolution. Norton is being accused of being the coordinator of the protest. However, he has denied this. The protest is said to have been in response to the government policy that anyone seeking to enter a building accessible to the public must either be vaccinated or show a recent negative PCR test result. The police had arrested the persons and in a statement said that they were released on $10,000 station bail.
