The Guyana Police Force abusing the Cybercrime law

Dear Editor,

Kaieteur News – The recent “arrest” of Sherod Duncan is yet another example of the GPF carrying out the political agenda of the PPP Government.
If the GPF arrests Mr. Duncan for his alleged use of the terms “jaggabat and trench crappo”, it should also arrest every other Guyanese including PPP Government officials and party activists that use similar language daily online.
But this is not the case, strangely only persons associated with the APNU-AFC Coalition are “arrested.” Let us forget about this, what is criminal about use of the term jaggabat and trench crappo? You see where I am going? Soon, anyone who feels offended because someone refers to them as a “jackass”, monkey, or jungle crappo (maybe it is because the crappo resides in the trench and not the bush, this is why Mr. Duncan was arrested) can engage the police to arrest the name caller.
Readers should know that Guyana’s Cybercrimes laws are being made a mockery of, just like the GPF. Actions by the GPF such as the above, further reduces the integrity of the force and highlight that elements of the organization frequently carryout the agenda of politicians. In fact, GPF officers break traffic and other laws with no regard for where and when such laws are violated. Oftentimes, drivers of GPF vehicles use sirens just to avoid traffic or to breach traffic regulations. Many officers are also seen at rum shops drinking and engaging in the usual cursing and talk name custom. Should they also be arrested for causing others “emotional distress?”
Many Guyanese are aware that the GPF is a corrupt outfit, oftentimes serving the political vendetta and agenda of wealthy business persons and politicians. The PPP Government is nothing less than a dictatorial Government, even though it likes to brand the PNC as same. Sadly, many high-ranking officers of the GPF engage in making a mockery of our laws, carrying out political agendas and covering up crimes linked to wealthy and political influential individuals for a little top up and as a favour to the PPP for promotion purposes. Instead of doing their work with fear or favour as they have sworn to do, they allow themselves to be intimidated and corrupted. Let us see if Mr. Fredrick Kissoon will write about these this travesty regarding Mr. Duncan, his AFC colleague.
Regards,
C. Singh
