Overwhelming majority of Guyanese have confidence in the Ramotar administrationPDFPrintE-mail

MS. LURLENE Nestor lives in America, so does Dr David Hinds.
It’s not a crime to live and work in America, unless you are doing so illegally.

Our constitution does not prevent anyone from leaving Guyana, unless that one is blacklisted, thus preventing them from leaving legally by the competent legal authorities here in Guyana. So Hinds and Nestor are in possession of their “get out of jail cards” on these two counts.
However, from the comforts of their residence in the United States, they would write or make speeches attacking the current PPP/C administration. Their attacks are fundamentally racial and politically extremist. And they are accountable to none.
There must be something morally wrong about this. Imagine people who (a) pay no taxes in this country (b) have never lifted a finger to produce a good or service for export, or to be consumed in Guyana; (c) make no contribution to national development, save for writing articles, penning letters to the Editor, making speeches at political party meetings, seeking to mesmerise people into believing that they are the true messiahs.
What are their contributions toward growth and development in Guyana? I’ve often asked myself if these people have ever stopped and wondered how Guyana continues to exist, with Guyanese living in peace and harmony since the 1960s, notwithstanding all the negatives Hinds and Nestor expound almost on a daily basis.
If ever there are tensions in our society, it is because of the political opposition, fuelled by sections of the media; and rarely the government.
Left to themselves, the working people of Guyana would carry on with their daily lives, save for their concerns with bread-and-butter issues which require negotiations by their representatives with a view to arriving at win-win solutions.
Talking about solutions, my attention was drawn to a story in the Stabroek News of Monday, June 18, 2012 in which it was reported that David Hinds, speaking at a Walter Rodney Memorial Lecture, is purported to have said: “If, within the upcoming six months, no change is witnessed in the political atmosphere, and an embracing of racial unity, particularly in the National Assembly, a situation may exist where Guyanese would take things into their own hands.”
Later on, taking a cue from the “intellectual mentor” of the WPA, Dr Rupert Roopnaraine, in an interview with Kaieteur News, stated: “It is time to bring the people back into the fray en masse.”
He went on to add that: “I am optimistic that the accumulation of demands will soon take its toll on the Administration, and wish (to) stress that this will be done in conjunction with extra-parliamentary actions.”
Not to be left out, Mr Khemraj Ramjattan, at a news conference held on June 21, 2012, stated: “If there is an increase (in electricity rates), it could create a crisis in Linden. It would create demonstrations in Linden…it would fuel national unrest.”
So what do we have here? Readers should put the pieces together and draw their own conclusions as regards the agenda of at least a section of the APNU; namely, the WPA and the AFC.
We do not know as yet whether this is a policy position of the entire APNU. Time and future developments will tell.
In a letter published on June 25, 2012 in the Stabroek News, Lurlene Nestor sought clarity on what is meant by a “potentially delicate period of national security”.
The answer to Ms Nestor can be found in the statements made by Hinds, Roopnaraine and Ramjattan.
Instead of pretending to be a political analyst, Nestor should read carefully the statements of her political allies in APNU and the AFC, and consider their implications for maintaining the peace and good order in Guyana.
Finally, Messrs Granger, Roopnaraine, Hinds and Ms Nestor must be reminded that whenever they make reference to the “people of Guyana”, they must bear in mind that 166,294 or 48.4 per cent from a total of 347,572 people voted for the PPP/C. These people look to those whom they elected to represent them effectively in and out of parliament; and that is precisely what we will do.
Further, now that we have formed the government, our responsibility is not only towards the 166,294 people or 48.4 per cent of the electorate who voted for us, but to the nation as a whole, including the 40.9 per cent and the 10.3 per cent of the electorate who voted for APNU and the AFC respectively.
Thus, guided by the constitution and the laws of Guyana, we will execute our functions without fear or favour, affection or ill-will. The overwhelming majority of Guyanese look to the Ramotar administration with confidence and optimism.

That's one long piece of drivel.

In the following paragraph he must have been speaking about the PPP party.

"There must be something morally wrong about this.  This  Goat man is one ungrateful and  thankless SOB. This  moron need  to  be  reminded that on  the  long  and  arduous  journey for the restoration of  democracy  in  Guyana, many  with their “get out of jail cards”  including  folks  like  Dr.  David  Hinds, were  front  and  centre  leading  the  charge and  raising  the  profile of that struggle. The  ACG  of  NY,  Toronto &  London and  other bodies  in the diaspora did  more to raise the profile  and keep  the  pressure on the  dictatorship in  International fora  than  many of  the  shit mongrels currently lapping  up  the  slop  at  the  public  trough.  In  tandem with  the  end  of the  cold  war, it  was  the  deluge  of   political  refugees  to    Canada and  the US that influenced  policy  shifts  in  these countries and their respective government and  gave  traction to  institutions  like the  Carter Centre to increase  pressure  for  free &  fair  elections.

Correct. I made several trips to Parliament in Ottawa with Sash and others to hold protests in calling for free and fair elections in Guyana. How soon the tops brass of the PPP forget...................

Mara, true there, the lack of gratitude is reflected in the fact that the current PPP faction have morphed into something little different than what Jagan and the stalwarts fought against for no many decades.

Glad  we  can find  common  grounds  here  Yuji.  Personally, I  believe  the  collective   efforts  of the  diaspora  and  the  deluge of  refugees   in  the  80s had  a  greater  impact on  policy  shifts in the  ABC countries  that  gave  traction to  institutions like   the  Carter Centre than  many  of  today's  "Chest  Thumpers  & Champions In  The  Trenches"

I  would  venture  to  say not  'little'  but so  very  different from what so  many championed and  fought  for, for  so  many  years, with  many  making  the  ultimate  sacrifices.  The  face  of  the  current  cabal is a distorted  and  horrible  caricature of  what the  PPP  represented  in  the  early  days of the Cheddi /  Janet  Jagan,  Boysie  Ramkarran,  Ashton  Chase,  EMG  Wilson...

Sometime with inbreeding,  even thoroughbreds can  sire kangalangs and  I  believe  both  Moses  and  Ralph  would  agree  with  me  here

Guyana under Sash Sawh as the President of Guyana would have seen a clean government. He was the only honest Minister in the Government. Blue eyed Bhowji didn't like him. Arrangements were made to have him assassinated. BJ said that he knew who did it.

The majority of Guyanese realized the promise of President Ramotar and his administration as a breath of fresh air. Guyanese are confident that with time their expectation will be fulfilled. The major set back on the budget cut is like water on a duck's back. The PPP will find ways to compensate for $GY20B.

Mr. Ramotar is a mature and wise man. Even with his husky built, he is a president of the outdoors. He gets dirty and see thinge first hand. He's in his infancy of his presidency, and we must give him his full five years to accomplish the mandate of the people of Guyana. Now, is anyone disagree?

Is this man so stupid or has his sense of self importance so overwhelmed his reason that he now engages expressing opinions that are clearly ignorant? Anyone, whether the work legally or illegally in France of Holland or anyplace has a right to speak to the administration or political expressions in their own country.

Every country not of our birth can take that right away but not any authority in Guyana. Unless the PPP now think itself authoritative as the ancient Greeks that they can now declared who is banished or exiled of stripped of their national patrimony at will.

One may not agree with any other person but their right to speak is sacrosanct. It does not depend on borders except in legacy ideologically retrogressive party systems such as democratic centralism as practiced by the PPP.

Rohee stupid pontifications must be taken in light of the treatment of dissenters and defectors from his party. The narrowed coven of the PPP may not tolerate contraventions of their Party Grimoire but keep that religious fervor there. They do not have the authority to say who can speak on guyanese issues or not.

And what are the grand works that this man has done on our behalf? What kinds of monuments to do you envision we will build in his honor or prayers and/or poems recited in his memory?

Unfortunately, the name Rohee will come accompanied with the footnote; PPP party brainless ideologue as well as some choice phrases as to his character and none of it will be good.  He should decide from now not to partake in such drivel and actually take mindful steps to actually make some worthy contributions for us rather than be the usual brainless bench sitter.
