had failed to notify doctors, family say

An Orealla man is now dead after reportedly swallowing his dentures while on the operating table at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

According to the relatives of Vincent Miguel, 42, he did not tell medical professionals about the dentures before the surgery.

Miguel was taken to the Springlands Hospital and then transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where it was expected that he would undergo surgery to remove an object from his arm last Friday.

However, a relative told Stabroek News that during the surgery the dentures came loose, went down Miguelโ€™s throat and lodged in his trachea for some time. According to the relative, it is suspected that Miguelโ€™s lungs collapsed, however, he added that a post-mortem examination will have to be done so as to definitively determine the cause of death.

The relative also pointed out that Miguel was questioned before surgery and claimed to the doctor that he did not have any dentures.

Meanwhile, when contacted yesterday for a comment on the matter and to ascertain whether an investigation is going on, Regional Health Officer Vishalya Sharma indicated that she was in a meeting and would return a call to Stabroek News. However, up to press time this was not done.

You see nothing wrong with the management of the health department, people are dying including new born babies and their mothers ,shortage of drugs ,doctors resigning .

There is nothing mentioned about the management in the article. A man swallowed his dentures and you are blaming management. The article said that he lied about having dentures and you are blaming management.  I am surprised that you are not blaming Jagdeo for the man's stupidity.

The patient didn't tell about the dentures ,was he asked ? did they checked ,I am sure there are procedures before a patient is operated on.

Does the article have to state management ?

Where in the article did it say that he lied about having dentures?

Have you read the last paragraph about Management?

Jangles, from this statement in the article it would seem he was asked and didn't answer truthfully.

The relative also pointed out that Miguel was questioned before surgery and claimed to the doctor that he did not have any dentures.

He was questioned by the doctor and said he didn't have any dentures. So he told them that. And unless he is enamored with his dentures and speaks about them often, his statement must have followed a question.

I don't blame the hospital for this.
