Public servants hoping for a bonus this Christmas will be left disappointed, as Finance Minister Winston Jordan on Friday ruled out any bonus pay-out to State workers due to limited fiscal space.
In his revelation to the media, Jordan explained that countrywide infrastructure projects are ongoing. As such, he argued that because of these projects, money is

being circulated back into the economy.
“I can tell you that it will not happen this year,” the Minister said when asked about bonus for public servants. “The challenges are many and the resources are few.”
In the absence of a bonus, Jordan explained that public servants still had much to be proud of as he pointed to the ongoing projects such as on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) and the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) expansion project.
“The West Demerara road is close to completion. So there has been a hive of activity across the country. A lot of spending is taking place, so if only because of that, people should be happy because a lot of money is being injected into the economy,” Jordan said.
Last year, public servants had waited with bated breath to hear if Government would announce a month tax-free bonus but were instead treated to a reduced amount.
He later told reporters last year that Government simply did not have the monies available to make the one-month tax-free payment to members of the public service.
Speaking to public administration and public financial management during his presentation of the 2017 National Estimates (Budget), Finance Minister Jordan had said “this Administration has inherited a national crisis of institutional lethargy and ineptitude (in the public service).”
The Minister in providing some insight on Government’s proposal to reform the public service through its public servants, pointed to comprehensive institutionalisation of the tenets of results-based management. He pointed too to the recently opened public service college and its role in revitalising workers.

I say everyone in Guyana should try to get a minister job. There is lots of money available for those.

Jordan like to talk big but embarrassingly usually has very little to show. Plus he likes to talk down to the Guyanese workers. What a schmuck.

Give Jordan a chance.  He is busy looking for that $US 20 million.  Remember he said he will check and see if Exxon give them the money.

APNU+AFC government has no money for public servants' Christmas bonus. APNU+AFC M&CC rarely pays city council workers on time. Even as press reports show that top central and local government officials spend $$$millions for overseas travel, residence and vehicle upgrades etc. Plus massive expenditure for new and improved ministry administrative buildings. Not forgetting that state-owned GuySuco workers haven't received even a token $1 Christmas bonus since 2014. Merry Christmas, workers of Guyana!

That is how PNC operates. I remember back in the '80s when folks virtually renting rooms in other peoples' houses were driving newly refurbished cars given to them by the PNC government. Eventually they would be able to move as they accumulated their bribes.

Bharat Jagdeo use to share  out the taxpayers money to (the PNC/APNU voters) those in the Public Service and the Security Services knowing very well that they were corrupted and took bribes from those they were expected to serve. But the PPP gave no bonuses to the poor people. So It is good that they in the Public and Security Sectors are getting nothing this time, courtesy of the government they voted for.

This goes to show that "sorry for maga dwag and maga dwag turn around and bite yuh".  I don't believe Jaggy or Ramoutar got any Afro votes from pandering to them via patronizing bonuses.

I have to agree. Blacks in Guyana are clannish. They got a good dose from the PNC. More hardship is yet to come but they will endure it as they did for 28 years of dictatorship rule.
