Letter: IAC condemns race hate message posted on Facebook

Dear Editor,

The Indian Action Committee (IAC) is shocked and outraged and condemns a post on Facebook (an online social media site) which contains a message, attributed to Nigel Austin whose face is portrayed, that is in blatant violation of the Racial Hostility Act, Chapter 23:01 of the Laws of Guyana which is an Act to make provision for preventing conduct, tending to excite hostility or ill-will against persons by reason of their race.

This posted message contains the following: β€œCoolie people need to take their retarded ass back to the gutter they call India and leave Guyana to the Afro Guyanese. They are worthless garbage”.

The IAC strongly believes that this vile message is a violation of Section 2. (1) (c) of the Racial Hostility Act of Guyana which states: β€œA person shall be guilty of an offence if he willfully excites or attempts to excite hostility or ill-will against any section of the public or against any person on the grounds of their or his race by means of written (including printed) matter or pictorial matter published by him”.

The IAC has noticed an upsurge in social media messages that contain racial slurs against all ethnicities in Guyana, and the organization strongly feels that such activities are extremely dangerous to the preservation of social cohesion

He has openly expressed what many Blacks and other non Indians whisper among themselves. Indians are always a threat, they come, they seek ,they conquer.Since the PNC in government the non Indians are becoming more brazen  to attack, insult and threaten Indians. It is the same play in America since Trump became the president, the extreme Whites-KKK have become vocal.

Nigel is not saying anything new that Afro-Guyanese for generations been saying. I worked at Blairmont in the 60s, in those days with prejudices were running high Blacks were not afraid to say terrible things to the face of Indians. I saw indians got fired just for having quarter cake of soap in their possession.

Prashad idea for a separate state should be considered by the IAC.

Even though I know Prashad's idea is stupid, what makes you think that even in a state that has one kind of people, there would still not be hate? Humans will find any reason to dislike others if they don't agree...

I saw this yesterday, and Nigel Austin wishes will never come through. Coolie will either stay in Guyana, come to America, but they're not going back to India. Nigel, like many others, is expressing his frustration through words. We had Courtney Crum Ewing who did the same and now he is six feet under. Granger secretary did the same and still on the job. Unfortunately, some of our own coolies are just as racial as Nigel Austin. I know some section of government is amused by these racial slurs towards Indians. I posted a live video that most of us witness here first hand from protestors on the govt side. Don't let this bother you. Our political system is nurturing this division and racial tension. Without it, they can't survive politically.

Prince, since I was a Baby there was alwys a small percentage that are the Caribjs of the World. They are as RACIST as Ian Smith and De Klerk put together. It is not totally their fault, being enslaves at Hope Estate by one of their own and given Grass to eat did mess their brains up.

In America, a baby is between 12 to 24 months. Were you creeping on Buxton road to know that?
