David Pollard to be new High Commissioner to India

STABROEK NEWS, JUN 15 --- Guyana has identified its new High Commissioner to India in the person of Dr David Pollard.

David Pollard
David Pollard

This was disclosed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Carl Greenidge in a letter on page 7 of today’s edition.

Pollard who studied Applied Maths at Cambridge University and has a PhD in Theoretical Physics from Imperial College, London is Director of Pollards Et Filles Limited, an equity and bond fund.

The fund’s website describes it as an emerging markets hedge fund, which has achieved outstanding returns through investing in local markets in the Caribbean and Latin America. Guyana is one of these markets with the fund operating here since 2011.

Pollard will replace Ronald Gajraj, the former embattled Minister of Home Affairs who served as Guyana’s High Commissioner to India from 2005 to 2015.

Trouble in camp they couldn't find one Indo Guyanese, the Indians in Guyana will not be very happy especially when it comes to Bharat Mata,I got no problem with Pollard he is an educated man.

So, why would you suggest that the Indians in Guyana will be very unhappy. You are unhappy, you said it.

Welcome to the linchpin of the APNU emerging power elites. I predict he will sit squarely on the head of the new Sovereign Wealth Fund when oil begin to flow in a couple of years.

Nah you say they have ethnic cleansing which equates to Indian representation is at low within the current administration and they are being forced to flee the land of their birth and another poster said they are second class citizens, you are aware how Bharat Mata is important to some of the Indo Guyanese.

Any way kudos to you for not objecting to the new Guyana Ambassador to India and you acknowledge that the Ambassador to China is not Chinese.

Ow me boi Odo smiling in he grave!!

Hey Vish, there is a QC boy on this forum who has taught us that there is a difference between education and intelligence.  So let's not go down that road.

So you don't think that the fact that he is Burnham son-in-law presents a conflict of interest?  BTW, I know David Pollard well.  His mom taught me to speak French.

There was a rumour in Georgetown that Burnham hated this Pollard man and his father and grandfather and was against the marriage.  It seems like the pollard family were enemies of Burnham father. I don't know if it was true.

There will be many Dukes and Duchesses in the Granger/Burnham Dynasty.

Each member of the Burnham Club is taking up their respective place in the Royal Family.

Have you noticed how they kept back this one announcement until after the Jubilee celebrations?  The master plan is unfolding.

What's all the excitement.  Such skills were available and engaged by the former PNC and Guyana went bankrupt!  Their resume's may be impressive, but is it what Guyana needs?

Let me clarify this.  There are a few educated people in the PNC like David Pollard who benefited from his father-in-law's generosity to the students of the PNC elite members by getting free scholarship money to study abroad. They waited 23 years to run the country.  They are coming home to roost.  They have no time of day for the AFC or any coolie wannabe, many of whom have no skills or expertise to offer Guyana.

The rest of the Coalition are a bunch of dunces who have nothing but incompetence to offer the country.

These AFC boys trying un-suck-seed-ingly to get a lil $40k local job with Harmon and Granger casually handing out six-figure jobs to the PNC klansmen!

I till you, by 2020, all the katahars will have been digested by the PNC and flushed into the septic!

FM

Nah. Main Thing is that Granger/Burnham families running the country now.  Watch the next election ticket.  It will be a full PNC house with one of these three son-in-law running for President.  They all have positions in the current government.  They will back each other up.  Family cutlass don't cut deep.

Burnham is running the country from his grave now.

New Delhi is preparing to welcome Maharanee Anabelle Burnham-Pollard and her husband.

Reminder: Indira Gandhi and Forbes Burnham got along super fine; some observers said they were the besta friends in Non-Aligned Movement.

FM

He has a solid viable hedgefund in the UK.  David Pollard is a smart guy who has corporate experience and a PhD from Cambridge and he knows how to run a business.  He is a millionaire many times over.  His wife Annabelle is a successful doctor who spent her Swiss inheritance very well.

These people are not in this for the money.  They are in this to claim their rightful place in history that their father left for them.

David Pollard didn't get a scholarship because of his father-in-law and his generosity or for being a part of the PNC. David is a brilliant Guyanese who won the Guyana Scholarship based on his academic achievements at QC. The scholarship was awarded for decades before there was the PNC. The scholarship only paid for his Bachelor's degree and he returned to Guyana afterwards to serve his country as part of the scholarship agreement. He subsequently earned a PhD on his own from London's Imperial College which is in the major leagues compared to CUNY. Riyad Insanally, who was appointed as the ambassador to the US, won the same scholarship a few years later. These are not corrupt dunces like the former ambassador to India Ronald Gajraj.

Mars

Mars - there were others who won the same scholarships based on merit and went to study abroad.  After the first year the government stopped sending money to them and they had to find their own financing.  David and Riyad continued getting their money from Guyana unlike some of the others.

Now that being said, I would not take away from the fact that they are both brilliant men who can and should contribute back to Guyana.

Actually, Gajraj should run for President on  the PPP ticket!  He is just the type of person needed!

As far as him being a dunce, etc, well we have an old gun slinger as Prezzy and all are fine with it.

Financing problems for scholarships came a lot later than David and Riyad's time. My Indo-Guyanese school friend who I'm still in contact with, won the Guyana Scholarship a few years after Riyad and his Ivy League schooling was paid in full. It's not like their financing was available while others were cut off in the same years.

Bibi,

Please be mindful, as your statement seems to cast doubts about some of the most intelligent individuals from Guyana.

The history of Guyana Scholar program now has a shadow

Vish M

Notwithstanding the fact that this person is educated and talented, we must remember the old PNC had all such skill and talents and they still drove Guyana into unimaginable destitution, violence a dysfunctionality.

So clearly, there is more to overall success of a nation than a few educated and talented individual.

Let me add though, assigning him to India was a brilliant strategic move by Granger.  It tells me the Granger admin has something big in mind to collaborate with India. A person of that calibre was not put there for show!

FM

Vish - I have friends who won those scholarships and their financing were cut off while they were still studying.  How many of these scholars returned to Guyana to return the service that they promised?  David and Riyad did but others did not.

Granger may be a gunslinger but he's not a dunce. Gajraj was also a GDF gunslinger but not as bright as Granger. Gajraj was more the type who would be assigned to KP duties. Nothing wrong with brilliant military men being president. There were several of those right here in the USA and they weren't draft dodgers like Drumpf and Bush.

Well you would say that wouldn't you. And yes, no person of Indian ethnicity was ever brilliant as their Afro counterpart!  You people have always been the most brilliant, bold, beautiful and all the nicities that god and man has to offer!  But you still bankrupt the nation!!

Ronald Gajraj comes from a family of prominent lawyers in Guyana (different last name) and he is from a bloodline of one of the founders of the PPP party.  Find out what his mom's last name was and you will know who he is.
