Amid reports in the media that he took out his firearm and threatened to shoot an employee of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) office in Guyana after he saw the individual communicating with his ex-wife, People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) Member of Parliament Nigel Dharamlall has denied any wrongdoing or involvement in any criminal act”.

A statement issued last night by Dharamlall’s Attorney,  Mr Glen Hanoman, stated: “Given the sensational speculations and inaccurate information already in the public domain, I am constrained, on behalf of my client to clarify the following: We, first and foremost, wish for the matter to be thoroughly and professionally investigated. Secondly, and towards this end, I have advised my client not to comment on the issue or engage the media so as not to interfere with, or prejudice this process. My client unequivocally denies any involvement in any criminal act.”

INews understands that the police are currently investigating a report of threatening behaviour made about a week ago against the PPP/C Member of Parliament. The matter has since been referred to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

Threat to IDB official

The Police file seeking advice on whether to proceed with charges against People’s Progressive Party (PPP)

Member of Parliament Nigel Dharamlall – after he threatened to shoot an Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) official – is still with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Chambers.

Dharamlall recently came into the lime light after a Police complaint was filed that he allegedly whipped out his gun and threatened to shoot the official after the individual was seen communicating with his (Dharamlall’s) ex-wife.

The Police had confirmed the report and launched an investigation into the matter. The case file was subsequently sent to the DPP Chambers on May 27 for advice on the way forward but has not been returned to date.

In a subsequent report, Dharamlall’s Attorney Glenn Hanoman, explained that his client was advised not to comment on the issue, so as to not interfere with or prejudice the investigation.

The Attorney further noted that given the sensational speculations and inaccurate information in the public domain, it must be made clear that his client is “unequivocally” denying any involvement in any criminal act.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo had told a news conference that the Party will be expecting explanations from its MP.

“Clearly he has to give solid explanations, believable explanations to the executive of the Party and to us. He has to give those because it is a serious matter, the allegations are serious,” Jagdeo posited.

The Opposition Leader went on to say that the matter would be discussed at the Party’s Executive meeting, which was scheduled for last Friday. However, when contacted over the past weekend, PPP General Secretary Clement Rohee said that the matter was not brought up.

Begging your pardon, Prash, but I don't believe you should associate their actions with Cheddi's name! There's a scoundrel in town and ee naim Jagdeo!

Why are you blaming Jagdeo? Character assassination is your MO, EH!

Why didn't the Coalition continue with their investigation?  If Dharamlall was charges and prosecuted then this incident may not have happened. Policing is a bytch.
