Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Communications Network (NCN Mohammed "Fuzzy" Sattaur has resigned from the state-owned radio and television entity amidst reports of financial irregularity.

"I felt that the negative publicity affected the image of NCN and I wrote the Minister of Information (President Donald Ramotar) and offered my resignation and he accepted it," Sattaur told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com).

Sattaur, a staunch member of the Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPPC), declined to say whether his decision to step down meant that he had taken responsibility for alleged financial irregularities.

Along with Sattaur's resignation Demerara Waves Online News was told that Programme Manager Martin Goolsarran has been suspended for eight weeks without pay.

Goolsarran had been sent home pending an investigation into reports that he had improperly handled company funds. He admitted to collecting in excess of GUY$3M from GT&T for services rendered by NCN. A cheque from the telecoms company had been signed over in his name.

DemWaves understands that Sattaur resignation takes effect from Saturday. Editor-in-Chief Michael Gordon, DemWaves learnt has been asked to act as CEO until further notice.

Over  at  GPL,  I  noticed  that  CEO, Yog  Mahadeo  has resigned while  some  of  his  underlings   was  dismissed. Seems  like  the  new  dispensation  in  Parliament  are  starting to  yield  small  dividends. Hopefully,  what  looks  like  a  small  flurry  would  gather  momentum  and  morphed  in  a  giant snowball  and  flatten behemoths  like  Brazzy,  Kwame,   Rohee, Roberto...

I hope that this is Ramotar getting tough and asking the worse offenders to leave. It that is the case, then I commend him for taking steps in the right direction. A lot more has to be done though.
