Don't glorified the presence of blacks in your life when you don't know the religious discrimination against Indians.

First, Hindus and Muslims were not allowed into the nursing and teaching profession unless they convert into Christianity.  All the schools were affiliated with the Church, Anglican.  ROMAN catholic,  Church of Scotland.  The Red Cross and the Salvation Army were influential in the training of nurses.

Look and see how many Indians carry English names, that was their passport to get Civil Service jobs, obviously after the emancipation of slaves the blacks were all converted into Christianity.

Many Indians living in NA would give their children  English names so that can easily be accepted in society.

Bro, your ppl came from India who were influenced by Christianity. Doan fool yourself that them youngmen were illiterate. In India, the Civil Service were mainly Brahmins, they din convert. Conversions in Guyana were not demanded. The church trained Africans to teach the African children. Indians and Putagees just happen to fall into the systtem. Schools were created for the Africans. The Putagees started QC to have an edge over the Blacks. Indians edge over Africans were to convert and compete for their guranteed jobs. And in every facet of public service.

It's a historical fact idiot! Anyway - why did you brilliant Indians need to attend catholic and anglican schools anyway? Why did you need black teachers? Why didn't you brilliant, superior beings not have schools of your own or even be able to teach yourselves? Weren't the brahmins and "chaterrees" among you supposed to be educated people? Ignorant fck!

Alas! Many of their Brahmins were self-made to avoid work! They had their hands full fooling their fellow indentureds! My father, though a Rajput, couldn't read or write, even Hindi! He only proved he was.a Rajput by his courage! You don't have to prove you are Brahmin if you can fool people like a real Brahmin!

Tell me more about how Putagee start QC.

QC was started by the British for the many who came to work in the colony, sometimes on contract. Saints was a Catholic boys school started by the Portuguese.  Similarly,  Bishops High was also started as a girl school by the British. Then you have St.Roses and St. Joseph high are Church related schools, in the early days one had to get baptized to get into those schools.

K

School started in 1844 by an Anglican Bishop, intended for Colonial elites.

The Portuguese in 1830s attended the same school as Blacks. However, they soon became the merchant class displacing the blacks. With their wealth, they supported the school financially making the way for Portuguese to have accesss to higher education equal to colonial elites. Thereby moving ahead of Black graduates from the Church Schools. That went on for sometimes, until the Coloreds eventually started enrollment. Then students such as CBJ and Forbes would find their way.

There is a more elaborate discussion in Baksh book on Educational System in British Guiana. It was his Doctorate Thesis.

I have a copy. In my research I came accross his work at a University Library. I bought a copy.
