What Naga did for the PPP makes him more worthy of a good pension. That other one should be driving dray cart.

What did nagas do more for the PPP compared to someone like Indra Chanderpaul or Komal Chand?

First and foremost, he left the Piss Pot Party and assisted in bringing them down. Now they have to toe the line..remove BJ to ever have another chance.

when you add the present ministers and the opposition salary i guess its enough to keep one sugar estate alive

Said it a little while ago and I'll say it again. There needs to be a thorough review of these salaries going back. Salaries should be commensurate with average wages and increases with inflation and cost of living adjustments. Pensions should also reflect the adjusted salaries.

Good in what sense? Salaries should be based on what the rest of the country makes and also what the country can afford. This MP makes $200,000 month which in my opinion is acceptable depending on what he does to earn that. Isn't that what canecutters were making or was that $100,000? What's the minimum wage in Guyana? It's the other outrageous salaries both PPP and PNC I was referring to and the pensions based on those salaries.

I have no problem with good salaries.  People should be well paid.  What I have a problem with is the lack of industry, the laziness, the incompetence.  One PPP MP showed me his paycheck two weeks ago.  He makes an equivalent of a little over $US 12,000 annually.  GTAngler, I bet you pay more taxes than that.

Bibi,

Seriously how do we justify super salaries for the politicians in Guyana, should it not be what the country can afford, these fellas get a lot free stuff with their salary.

What is a super salary?  As far as I know, only Nagamootoo and a few others are earning a super salary.  I believe the average salary of a Minister is about $USD 40,000 annually.  Do you really think that is a lot of money?  Look at you who can barely read and write bragging about how you live in a white neighborhood and own how many buildings and businesses.

When are you people going to stop comparing Guyana to the United States? Let's get back to relativity. $40,000 US is approximately $8 Million GY. Now what's that minimum wage again?

Moses will be getting USD$8,000 a month when he retire in Iowa.  Not Ohio.

You know old teachers like me do deliberate say the wrong thing to find out if people absorbing.

Thanks for the correction Bibs.  Yes Iowa.  Actually it is Muscatine, Iowa.

I remember working with a fella by the name of Jim Yanda.  He came from Hilly Billy Road, Iowa. A PPP comrade who studied political science in Eastern Europe was working with Jim too. He loved to impress people with his leftwing rhetoric.  Jim jokingly said one day that when Persaud makes some money he is going to take a course in Marxism. Well, Persaud was very close to the likes of Moses, Feroze, and Roopan Singh. It would be very funny if Moses finds himself on Hilly Billy Road and runs into the Jim Yanda. Jim is gonna ask if he studied Marxism too..

The world is not a Utopia.  I would not compare someone who has no skills and earns a minimum wage to another person who is educated and skilled in a professional job.  NY minimum wage is $15.00 an hour and those Wall Street guys are earning millions.  I don't see you crying about that.

First thing, let's stick to the situation in Guyana. Do the earnings of the Wall Street chaps come out of the United States Budget? I don't expect a University Professor to be earning the same as a laborer but I thought we were discussing politicians. Granted some are educated. As politicians however, they give themselves huge raises when they expect the public to manage on much less?

When I was in college, I spent a couple of summers cleaning tables and mopping floors and working the line for Marriott at Delta Terminal in LGA. Minimum wage was $3.11 and my weekly salary small but it gave me a different outlook and newfound respect for the food industry workers.

They should only be paid what the country could afford.

Guyana is a mad economy. I cannot understand how poor people survive there.  The COI on the sugar industry valued an acre of sugar estate land  at US$135,000.  You can buy land in very good neighborhoods in the USA for that price.

The debt in Guyana keep increasing meaning that the politicians are living large on the backs of the people and the future of the country.  A shameless bunch of people.
